From start to finish the entire staff was caring and attentive, which made me feel calm being my first time for cataract surgery and implant. All my questions were answered as well as the step by step explanation on the process regarding the procedure. I appreciated the warm blanket in the pre-op area. Dr. Amato and Anesthesiologist, plus Abby, nurse in pre-op were so kind and knowledgeable which made me feel assured of the quality of care. Love that I don't need contacts! The care you get from the actual Dr. is good, but it's hard to get to them. Most recently, I called 5 times, leaving a message trying to make an appointment. I sent a request through the portal 3 times. I decided to try one more time and someone called me back but the first available appointment was 4 1/2 months out. I've tried to make an appointment in the past that was over a year and they wanted to bill me a fee as a "new patient" since it had been over a year. I also was billed for an office visit 2 years after the date of service. You need to accommodate at least 1 1/2 hours for an appointment. Based off the combination of these things, I've decided to find a new doctor, it is yet to be determined how quickly I'll get my records. read more

Burning, itching, things floating in my eyes and now one eye seems crossed. Wish I'd never gone to this group. I have had an issue with Ophthalomology Associates for the last 6 months (May 2022) . I sent a check to pay a small bill and included the wrong check for a Charitable donation for $250.00 which Ophthalomology Assoc. deposited. At first they denied that it went through so I had to work for a few weeks with my bank to get documentation to prove they kept my money. Then in June 2022 they acknowledged that they owe me the funds and they said they would submit the $250.00 as a credit to my account and then a refund check would be issued to me in 2-3 weeks. Since then I call and keep being told their Accounts Payable vender is 3 weeks behind but working on it. Now on November 23, 2022 I can't get anyone to take my call and I still have not received my refund. The AP company works for them and the excuses are frustrating and I feel as they are giving me the run around and will not reimburse my check, etc. read more

Said they called and left a voice message but I did not receive one. Next available appointment is 3 months out again. I was referred to Dr. Berdy by my regular eye doctor because she wasn't able to properly treat my dry eyes. I'm so happy that I ignored the bad reviews and that I started going to him because six months later my eyes have made a significant improvement. For any else who reads these reviews keep in mind that they are EYE Doctors. in order for them to treat you properly you may have to have a series of tests before you actually see the Doctor and this will take time. Don't expect to be in and out in 30 minutes. I can't recommend Dr. Berdy enough because he's an amazing Doctor. read more

My previous optometrist was great, but I developed glaucoma and need an ophthalmologist Essentially, i saw Dr Malholtra initially, he did laser surgery and cataract. What a nice guy. Called me himself to explain things. Then i was sent to Dr Royer, for follow up. I hate eye testing, as does everyone. But i love Dr Royer. Dr. Royer is the best! Very knowledgeable and attentive. Scheduling is difficult but after that, everything went incredibly well.

Other than Dr Ranhan Malholtra, who is practically a saint, I refuse recommend any other doctor at Ophthalmology Associates. Dr Malholtra is knowledgeable, kind and extremely patient, even under the most trying of circumstances. My mom has dementia, and I took her as a new patient to the Manchester office. The first doctor who attempted to examine her got upset because she could not tolerate the glaucoma test. Each time he shot an air puff from the tonometer she backed away from the head rest. With each of several unsuccessful attempts he went from agitated...to angry...to being rude towards my mother. At that point, Dr Malholtra, who happened to be passing by, asked if he could try to test her. He smiled and took time to make small talk, which earned her trust and calmed her considerably. He then asked her to let him know when SHE was ready for the air puff and soon she said she was. Dr Malholtra got a successful reading on his FIRST try. Yes, he's busy because he's outstanding in his field. But if you are a new patient I highly recommend Dr Malholtra, who will treat you with great care and respect. ACCEPT NO SUBSTITUTE lest you be subjected to that rude dude. read more

Dr. Gregg Berdy and Dr. Ranjan Malhotra are both phenomenal docs. I personally see Dr. Berdy but my wife sees Dr. Malhotra. They're up to date on the latest procedures, have nice new offices with the latest technology, and are the ophthalmologist that most of the local docs go to for their eye needs (thus their commercials about them being the "Doctors Doctors"). The only reason I didn't give 5 stars is because you should be prepared to wait when you go for your appointments. That's the downside, the upside is that the reason you are waiting is because once they do see you they provide very personal attention which can tend to delay them. So it's a bit of a tradeoff, but I'll take that over a doc rushing in and rushing back out any day of the week. read more

From the beginning they throughly answered our questions worked to align our schedules, managed the insurance payment and did the surgery and follow up that completely assured us that we chose the right Doctor and Facility for this important procedure. I saw Dr. Daniel Ethakoti, an optometrist, for a problem I'd been having with one eye feeling unusual and occasionally blurred. First I saw Natalie who checked the prescription in my glasses, used the refractor to try different lenses to check my current prescription needs, and then dilated my eyes. She left and Dr. Ethakoti came to the exam room. His examination of my eyes was as thorough as any I have ever had and identified the problems I was having as related to my allergies. He provided a free sample of some drops and also recommended an over-the-counter product. He was polite and professional as was Natalie. There were only 2 minor drawbacks to the visit. I waited about 30 minutes beyond my original appointment time before I was seen and also the notes Dr Ethakoti had showed that Natalie had checked my eye pressure when she had not. Regardless, he was happy to check it for me when I requested it. read more

BEWARE of this place. I used to go here years ago and also brought my children here. I used to love the place but that was about 13 years ago. I got LASIK (somewhere much cheaper) and have not been to the eye doctor for the past 10 years or so. Recently my employer enrolled us in Delta Vision that allows for an annual covered eye exam. I have perfect vision and no eye issues but decided that it would be prudent to go in for the free eye exam. I called to make an appointment (took 3 months to get in). I told the woman that I wanted to use my Delta Vision. When I arrived for my appointment and provided my Delta Vision card I was told that they don't take Delta Vision. I was very upset as I had taken a half day off work and waited for 3 months. Initially, I told them I was not going through with the appointment as I knew my insurance would not cover any of it. The receptionist said that I would be charged a cancellation fee as I did not allow for 24 hours notice. I was encouraged to keep the appointment because they take my insurance (UHC) all the time and I even have a vision benefit called Spectera (which seems to be a false statement in retrospect). Weighing my lost vacation day, time and cancellation fee against the possibility that the desk was correct and maybe most/all of this would be covered I decided to keep the appointment. That was a TERRIBLE decision. In hind sight there is no doubt in my mind that none of the above was an accident or misunderstanding. To make a long story short, the doctors have found a very lucrative angle to bill for dry eyes. Now I would assume lots of people do have dry eyes. I do not. Never have. I was asked in writing and in person (by every person who saw me -maybe 4-5 total) if I had dry eyes or any symptoms. It actually became weird. Over and over I am asked if I have dry eyes. I began to suspect something but didn't know what. Finally, I see Dr. Malhotra and I instantly get even more uncomfortable. I could tell that I was being hustled but could not figure out how or why. Dr. Malhotra said my vision is great, my scan looks great, no cataracts but he was concerned there could be something we couldn't see on a test. He went on and on. He said my tears were probably dirty even though you can't see it and I wouldn't know it. He turns to a poster that just happened to be on the door right in front of my face to explain. Once I saw the poster I knew this was an assembly line. Everyone that sits there is told to look at the poster. He said I was probably allergic to something and we were going to do more testing. I knew I didn't want to do more testing but was never asked if I would like to. He turned to the assistant and told her to call in my prescription (Xiidra) drops that are crazy expensive (his words). He said if insurance didn't cover we can find another alternative. Oh, and they burn your eye but luckily we sell something that washes out your eye. The assistant asks for my pharmacy but I decline to give her one and ask if she could write it down. She doesn't think you can do that. What??? Why not? Well, we need to call it in. Finally, after talking to the Dr. Malhotra she agrees to write a scrip. This was clearly outside of the normal protocol for railroading the patient. Then, I go to check out and the assembly line continues. We need to make two appointments. One is for the allergy testing and the other is to get the results. How many drops do I want to buy? I decline to buy any drops and the girl looks confused. Does anyone walk out without buying drops and making more appointments? In my opinion, this is absolutely fraudulent medicine. Never once did I have a symptom or complain of dry eye. Never once did he ask if I was interested in doing these tests. He just scheduled them and wrote scrips. Remember, all I requested was my covered eye exam. I have no symptoms, my scans are great, yet here we are. Oh and don't forget the false pretense that got me in the door in the first place. I should have been turned away as soon as I mentioned Delta Vision. I have since talked to several other patients including my step mother and a co worker both had the exact same experience (minus the Delta vision part). I do wonder if every patient that comes through their door is herded through the "ocular allergy test" procedure whether they have any symptoms or not. When I was in the office every patient I saw was older. This predatory behavior is even more repulsive when it is done to elderly people (like my stepmother). I only wish I would have spoken to her before I made the appointment. PLEASE DO NOT MAKE THE SAME MISTAKE I DID. YOU WILL REGRET IT!!!! This is not the old Opthalmology Associates. read more

I loved having Dr.Berdy do both my cataract surgeries and Multifocal Intraocular Lenses so I do not ever need glasses. I could even tolerate the delayed times of appointments exceeding an hour usually even for surgery. He is a brilliant specialists. What I did not appreciate was after surgery I could only see the Optometrists for follow ups and any issues I had. Only if Dr.Royer felt I needed Dr.Berdy did I get to see him. When I tried to make appointments to follow with Dr.Berdy I was told no, that I needed to see one of the Optometrists. So, I only got to see Dr.Berdy if I required surgery or Laser. I tolerated it for about 6 months after my 2nd surgery. I was really upset because I felt he should have seen me at my requests considering I chose him for my Doctor. I also was having lots of dry eye issues effecting my vision that were not taken care of with suggestions of Dr.Royer and I was very upset. I asked about Punctal Plugs and was told to continue doing the things he told me. On my final/last visit with this office I was told by Dr.Royer some things that I found hard to believe. I was told my lens was off centered and that I needed Laser already in my eye I had just had cataract surgery in three months prior. Dr.Royer said this is why I was having multiple vision issues. He also had given me 7 diagnosis which I did not understand and when I tried to ask about it it was brushed off, not answered and he kept talking to the scribe which was the normal way for him when I came. I felt disrespected all the time. I had complained of needing a solution for my dry eyes for over a year. I chose not to let them do any more surgery. I saw a new Opthamologists and showed him the list of issues I was told I had and the list of things including several prescriptions that I was to do daily for the rest of my life according to Dr.Royer. The new Doctor quickly let me know my lens was not off centered and I did not need Laser...there was no beginning of any cataract showing to even remotely suggest the need of a Laser procedure. He told me to stop doing everything I was told to do previously. He put Punctal Plugs in my eyes and it solved every complaint I had in under 48 hours. I have not needed even eye drops since then. My vision is now perfect as it should have been after my surgeries. Having Punctal Plugs replaced twice a year is a wonderful solution. Although I loved Dr.Berdy he is ultimately responsible for his patients and the way the office is run. I felt very disrespected and lied to by Dr.Royer and should have been given the choice to only see Dr.Berdy. read more

After having lasik surgery I completed my follow up with Dr.Royer. Aside from the extremely long wait time to get in Dr. Royer was very short with me and extremely rude. I have obviously never had this surgery before and had issues with blurry vision, dry eyes and extreme sensitivity to light weeks after surgery. I did not think this was normal. Dr. Royer said it will go away soon and to come back in 1 week if it didn't get better. I was appalled as it was my understanding these symptoms do not last weeks after surgery. He then told me he was running late and if I had questions to ask the technician and left. I went to another provider that same day and found out I had an infection in my eye and was provided meds. I will never return here and do not think Dr. Royer is a competent optometrist or a very polite one at that. read more

I had been to multiple Ophthalmologist with little resolve. Then was referred to Dr. Malholtra by a friend. I was very impressed and happy to finally get the care I was in pursuit of, for so many years. Dr. Malholtra explains all the different exams he did and the results. He is very patient and knowledgeable and always concerned with my well being. The staff is very friendly, courteous, and willing to assist to make your visit a pleasant and successful one. They send friendly follow-up reminders and have excellent record-keeping which makes me feel confident that I have put my eye heathcare in good hands! read more

Traveled 1 hour for appointment. Not being from the area I got lost very close to their office. GPS was of no use. Many different large buildings with one way traffic, etc. Repeatedly called only to get recording. Finally some guy came on and gave me the wrong directions taking me further away! Then he says "Oh I gave you the wrong directions just a minuet ". By this time I'm nuts with anger, hang up the phone and drive home. My very first contact with the front office staff should have been my first clue as to how the rest of my experience would go. The woman who scheduled my appointment seemed like she couldn't be bothered with me. Unfortunately, I let that one go. My visit was for a basic annual eye exam as my contact prescription had expired. I gave my insurance information and paid an $80 "co-pay". After a 45 min wait, I was ushered into a room by a lady named Bridget who began taking my history. I asked her if new patient appointments really took 2.5-3 hrs - she said yes (because my eyes would need to be dilated) so I told her I needed to call my mom to pick my son up from daycare as according to her, the visit could run very close to 6 which is when the day care closes. She told me she would be right back as she was going to speak to the doctor to see what he wanted to do as far as dilation goes... she came back in and said she would do the basic exam and that I could talk to the doctor about whether or not he would dilate my eyes. I explained to her that my mom agreed to pick up my son and that we could move forward with the exam. She basically ignored me and said that I could speak with the doctor. When she was finished with the exam, she said something about a 95$ contact lens fitting fee and then walked me over to get another waiting room to wait for another test. After that room, I was moved to ANOTHER room to finally meet the doctor. Talk about a cattle herd..... so I finally meet the doctor ... Dr. Royer. he was rushed and rather curt with me. After he did his exam- he handed me a clipboard and told me there was a 95$ contact lens fitting fee. I couldn't see very well because I didn't have my contacts in but I signed anyway. I have no idea what it said. My fault I guess - I could have asked. I told both him and the tech that I have never had to pay a fitting fee before. Dr. Royer essentially blew me off and left the room. After he left I asked the tech what exactly was a fitting fee. He said that because they were a medical office with MDs and not an optometry office that they wouldn't take my eye insurance. He said someone at the front desk should have told me that they didn't take my eye insurance and that someone at the front desk should have referred me to an optometrist's office where they would accept my insurance. They had a list of optometrists to whom they refer. Well that's great to know as I am sitting in the chair AFTER my exam was completed. I was really really unhappy with the entire experience. A HUGE thumbs down to Bridget, the front office staff, and Dr. Royer. I had an appointment scheduled for my son. I cancelled that on the way out. As for the dilation of my pupils..... Dr. Royer said I didn't need it as my pupils were "big enough" to see into. These people are pompous and rude. I paid out of pocket for that and I am fully insured. read more

I absolutely L-O-V-E Dr Berdy! He has changed my life through PRK. The verse in the old beloved song "Amazing Grace" .... I once was blind, but now I see ... has a double meaning for me. My biggest fear was that it would hurt. The procedure only took 25 minutes, and it was painless. It is wonderful to wake up in the morning and see! There are no more 'find the white soap on the floor of the white shower with my foot' dances, no more pain from having a spec of dust under a contact lens, no more ordering contacts, no more having to haul around an extra set of lenses in case one goes bad in the middle of the day, no more bent frames from nodding off during a movie. I opted for mono-vision correction and it has been fabulous. The only challenge has been tweezing my eyebrows which is a small trade-off considering all the good benefits of being able to see for the other 23 hours and 55 minutes of the day. I can thread a needle, polish my nails, tell the difference between shampoo & conditioner in the shower, read labels in the grocery store, and see street signs. I couldn't be happier! So what that I have to enlist the help of my sister to tweeze my brows ... love my sister-time! There is always 'a wait' on appointment day, but I appreciate the opportunity to catch up on reading my magazines (and can leave them behind for others to benefit from). There are many reasons a Dr can run late ... a walk-in emergency, patient tardiness, unexpected staff absence, taking phone calls that should take 1 minute but stretch to 10, patient discussions that take longer than average, answering staff questions between patients. Then it takes time to discuss with each patient why he is running behind, which makes him more behind. Two members of my family are Docs. Trust me, they take NO delight in running late. All I know is that Dr Berdy is a fantastic Dr who gives fantastic care. I am happy to exchange a few hours of my time for that kind of care. These are the only 2 eyes I have, and I don't trust them to just anybody! When it is my turn in the chair, the Dr and staff make me feel like a valued individual. And let's face it, we can all use a few hours of 'down time' to read, pray, meditate, make a new friend, do a crossword puzzle, or finish a Sudoku. Thank you Dr Berdy for the sacrifices you have made over the years in order to be able to treat your patients with the utmost professional, quality care. Knowing you for the past 3 months has been a huge blessing in my daily life. read more

My uncle came to St. Louis from Louisville, KY, on my recommendation, to be treated by Dr. Berdy. He relied on my wife and I, both attorneys with busy schedules, for transportation to and from appointments while here. At every appointment, we were were required to wait a minimum of two hours on Dr. Berdy, and on half of the occasions, three. I confronted Dr. Berdy, and he was dismissive. I then challenged him about his attitude, and he made an ill timed, pointless joke. Since mistakenly recommending him to my uncle, I have spoken with several others in the area who have similar stories and experiences here. The highlights not only include indifference to patient convenience and scheduling but also patient care. You would think someone of his profession would act with tact and courtesy instead of arrogance and insensitivity. It was a mistake choosing him, and it won't happen again. I urge you to stay away as your time will be wasted and concerns ignored when brought up. read more
