The two stars are because I've been happy enough with the glasses, and they have a very good guarantee. The problem is the eye doctors. In that regard, it seems to me that America's Best is the optometry equivalent of Great Clips. The overall impression I get is that the doctors that work here are either brand new doctors in their first job, or they just didn't do very well in school, and this place is the only job they can get. I'm not sure I've ever had the same optometrist twice, and I have found them to be generally subpar. I have had significant issues with my eye exams for the last two years, and both times, the problem was the doctor. Last year, the doctor told me that my prescription had barely changed at all, and then he proceeded to drastically change it. When the glasses arrived and I went to pick them up, I couldn't really see through them, and I said so. I was told that I needed to be patient and give my eyes a chance to adjust to the new prescription. I accepted that and drove home. I actually drove with these glasses, but it really wasn't safe for me to do so. I gave the glasses another week, but I never did "adjust." Luckily, I also didn't try to drive anymore while wearing them, because that was completely unsafe. After a week, I called and spoke to the manager, who checked my old prescription and was shocked to see what a drastic change the doctor had made, after telling me that it had barely changed. The manager was lovely, and she seemed completely baffled as to why the doctor would have done what he did. A different doctor examined me and confirmed that the prescription was completely off. They reordered the glasses with the correct prescription, and everything was ultimately fine, but it was a lot of hassle for no reason. Then a few weeks ago, I went back for my annual exam. My mother and my grandmother both had Wet AMD, and I thought the doctor might want to know about that history, so I mentioned it. He scoffed at me and acted like it was the stupidest thing anyone had ever said to him. He told me if I was showing signs of Wet AMD, he would know it, and he completely dismissed me. And that wasn't all. I had recently begun experiencing what I believed to be ocular migraines. I described in detail what had been going on, hoping that he could advise me. He looked at me like I was making him late for happy hour and he said, I kid you not, "Sounds like you should probably see a doctor about that." I was dumbfounded. I asked him what kind of doctor? My primary? An ophthalmologist? He practically rolled his eyes and said, "Well, you have cataracts, so you're going to need to see an ophthalmologist eventually." And that was the end of that. He never really answered a single one of my questions, he just acted put out by them. You can get your eyes examined at America's Best if you want to, but I do NOT recommend it. I will still buy my glasses there because no one beats their prices, but I will never get my eyes examined here again.

If you pay out of pocket they will ignore all questions and you will walk out with worse glasses…read morethan you came in with. Get ride of the subpar optometrist

When we get to the appointment and she is being seen, the Dr said we don't normally take kids under 10 or 12. And of course he is having issues. Long story short after 2 separate visits and given a prescription which was 100% wrong. My daughter could see even less wearing the glasses. We were told to take her somewhere else. It's like they just wanted to bill our insurance twice. Because now that I'm asking insurance for another evaluation LensCrafters doesn't respond to the first 2 letters and with just a couple days left of their window to respond/ dispute they request to be sent over the paper work again. Pushing my daughter reevaluation out longer than the normal 30 day period. They made the mistake. They told us to go somewhere else. Now they won't even submit the documents needed so she can see a different Dr.

When I called Walmart Vision they said they were able to do that so I made an appointment for a Saturday afternoon at 1:30pm. The woman on the phone told me to arrive 15 minutes early to fill out all of the paperwork. I am overly prompt and was probably strolling in at 1:10. They take your temperature and wipe everything off before they let you in to sit down. I was handed a huge packet to fill out. You don't need the particulars but I wasn't called in for my appointment until 1:45. The wait was excruciating. Once I was in the exam was fine and the optometrist updated my prescription a bit. I then sat out with one of the techs and went over what I was getting and gave him my frames, etc. The glasses were ready 5 or 6 days later and I am happy with them. My only complaint here is that 1. I'm sure I paid more to have lenses put in my own frames but that is on me and 2. Why do they tell you to arrive so early?

I decided to try the Walmart at Chesterfield Commons in the hopes of a better selection. Not only was the selection better, but the service exceeded my expectations in every way. "Erlene" assisted me, and the first thing she did was look at the measurements on my current glasses. Then she informed me of what size bridge and lenses would work the best and explained why. She was mindful of my budget and didn't try to up sell me. After I picked out the frames we went over to the desk to review my lens options. I gave Erlene a copy of the recent prescription I got from Crown. She noticed the "add" corrections were not the same and commented that "usually they are." She decided to verify those figures with Crown and called them up and asked them to check. It turned out, they were incorrect and should have both been the same. She asked them to fax a corrected prescription to her, which they did. That told me I was right in returning the glasses to Crown because the correction was off. Erlene spent another 25 minutes explaining the different lenses and I settled on Poly Lens that had scratch resistance, glare reduction, high definition, and Blue Blocker. It felt like I was getting a car with all the options - yet, the total was less than my glasses from Crown, and that was with my insurance. Walmart doesn't take Essence, but their price without the insurance was less than Crown's price with it. I highly recommend the Chesterfield Commons Walmart Vision & Glasses department and Erlene. This experience was the complete opposite of my bad experience at Crown (see my review). I felt the optician was extremely knowledgeable, the selection abundant, and the costs reasonable. Even though it's not in my neighborhood I will return when I need my next pair of eye glasses.
