A small spot in Willits serving excellent, creative bagels made by an intense but genuinely nice owner who clearly takes his craft seriously. The bagels are exactly what you want: classic crispy on the outside, light and chewy on the inside; and inventive flavors and unusual ingredients made in-house. It is a small place with just a few tables inside. In the summer, grab your bagel and go walk over to the nearby park to check out the water fountain show. I walked into this bagel shop expecting a quick, pleasant stop--but instead got a dose of attitude. The moment we came in, the man behind the counter threw what can only be described as a hissy fit about a dog being near the door. We had zero issue keeping the dog outside and were already handling it, but his reaction was completely over the top. From there, things didn't improve. He was rude, rolled his eyes multiple times, and kept huffing and acting irritated while we were simply trying to order. It made the whole experience uncomfortable and unwelcoming. Customer service clearly isn't a priority here. Plenty of other places to grab a bagel without being treated like an inconvenience--won't be coming back. read more

First time being in here and I wish I came sooner. Jack KNOWS his flavor combinations. This guy has such a passion for bread & flavormaxxing, and it shows. He suggested the Bacon, Cheddar, Jalapeño bagel with Blackberry Habanero cream cheese, which was out of this WORLD. Such a unique combo which I never would have concocted on my own. Sweet, savory, & spicy all in one. I'm not the biggest 'fruit cream cheese' fan, but this was incredible. When I inquired about nuts, he said "the only thing nuts is how delicious [your bagel] will be ... and the pesto". read more

Another great experience at Open Sesame this morning. I cannot wait for them to open the new location in Willits. Their bagels are scrumptious, well toasted and even if I am not hungry I cannot stop eating them. I had a lox sesame seed bagel that had the traditional fixings (capers, red onion, tomato) plus crunchy cucumbers that gave it an extra oomph. My husband had one with bacon, lettuce, avocado that was fantastic too. Service was great and efficient. They are pricey but their ingredients are top notch and to me it's totally worth it. read more

Let me start with Jack, the owner. Need I say more? Be prepared for a long winded schtick from the most extroverted man in existence. He'll be sure to guide you toward the choice he knows is best for you. My Asiago pesto bagel with a sausage patty, garden veggie cream cheese and roasted tomatoes was out of this world. The options are all artisanal and lavish. But you could also pair it down to a more traditional choice if you want to be boring. After spending much of his life indulging in bagels, my Jewish New Yorker boyfriend was pleasantly surprised and had nothing but great things to say about these bagels. We were visiting Basalt and looking for a solid breakfast joint. This one popped up and we gave it a shot. The breakfast bagel sandwich was decent but watch out for their crazy prices and hidden fees. The bagel sandwich alone was listed at $17+ but they add $2.50 if you choose a non standard bagel that they push on you without letting you know of the upcharge. They also say free house coffee which is a nice touch but watch out for the automatic service fee of 15% and a CC fee of 3%. So in the end we paid $71.98 for 3 bagel sandwiches and the owner said to us that we underpaid but that he will cover us this time. Haha. There are better options that will not break the bank. read more

An absolute treasure of a tiny place! Most fantastic amazing bagel sandwiches. Every single ingredient is of highest quality. The taste are amazing. There's a huge variety of bagel flavors and cream cheese that are original just to this place. The sandwich was reasonably price around $15 and it came with a free latte or a free cookie. I ended up getting an Americano with vanilla and lavender. Lovely, freshly made delicious coffee, espresso, fresh beans.. everyone would come here for a bagel or or a cookie because they're amazing but the coffee is also to die for. I also got the jalapeño egg bagel to have for later today. But everything cream cheese smear was delicious. I may just go back in and get a cookie NOW, I want to try everything! Wait time is less than 5 minutes for a huge bagel and a generous amount of delicious cream cheese! Massive amounts of bagels and cream cheese to choose from so you won't be disappointed. We stopped in to get a "quick bagel" on our drive to Aspen only to find a delight place full of personality and flavor. We liked it so much that we made sure to return on our drive out of town several days later. The owner, staff, (and even customers) were engaging and helpful. Which is important because this isn't a standard bagel shop. The flavors of bagels, sandwiches, and spreads are inspiring and Jack is always helpful in ensuring you get what is flavorful to you. We've really enjoyed going to Open Sesame in Basalt over the years, but unfortunately, this recent experience left a bad impression. We went in for two bagels and a coffee, and during checkout, the cashier told my wife she needed to leave a tip because she received a free coffee through their bagel promotion. While tipping is appreciated and often encouraged, it should never be demanded. Being pressured to tip -- especially for something advertised as free -- felt inappropriate and unprofessional. Tips should always be optional and based on service, not treated as an obligation. We hope the management addresses this with their staff, as it put a damper on an otherwise long-standing positive experience. read more

Great service, great food, somewhat reasonable prices (it's the valley- everything is expensive), and oh yeah... amazing bagels. Good stuff. I ordered the BLT on a special bagel (sea salt, rosemary, and Asiago) with a fried egg. I don't even like bagels and I was just raving to my wife about this one (I reluctantly shared...). What a local treasure! My sister brought me here when I was visiting on 1/19/26 from Western NY. I've never experienced such a delectable combination of flavors and textures in a bagel sandwich. And EVERYTHING is hand made right there! The owner is on top of his craft in bringing rich authentic beauty to his offerings. I didn't know what to order from the multitude of options. His suggestion was spot on. He offers a free coffee with a specialty sandwich which blew my mind! I'm always happy to pay the price a small business asks for the wares because I know it is with careful consideration of their costs and what customers will pay. It's a delicate balance in order to stay in business! Please always patronize small businesses, without them we'd only have fast food or frozen bagels etc. I'm sharing this because as we were entering this bustling little shop whose bagels are well known throughout the valley, including very discerning restauranteurs, a customer was storming out irate that she should not only be given a free coffee with her naked bagel, but she shouldn't be charged for any butter. So if you happen to see a negative review here from a person that acted as I explained please do NOT take it out on this wonderful establishment! Instead go in and buy a bagel sandwich or two!
