Open Arms Preschool is excellent, My son has attended Open Arms for the last two years. When we chose Open Arms it was easy because the staff was so accommodating and friendly. The attitude I'd see reflected as love throughout the school It was so great to find a school for toddlers not yet potty trained and all to have all meals and snacks provided My son went through the infant program and it was great for him; so much growth!! He interacted with the other babies but still got the individual infant care he needed, The daily reports are valuable, The love and care of the individual babies was apparent to me with my son amd is everytime I walk by the infant room Now my son is in the toddler program, Again, I am so impressed with the program; they are all engaged,Cool and interesting lesson topics I can see the teachers control the environment and not the kids. Everyday I see all the teacher interacting with all the kids I like the daily activities and the daily report naps and curriculum learned. Really had high hopes for this daycare, as there are few good options on the NW side of town. Felt excited about it after the tour but bringing my 1 yr old in quickly became a major source of anxiety every day. My son is typically a very social, happy, and engaged boy and even at our first daycare, which we did not love for similar issues, he at least was very very quick to warm up and happy to be there. This place was a different story altogether and my main and major gripe is with the young ones teacher, Ms. Ryann--cold, detached, minimally engaged. I spent 40 minutes with my son to help him ease in on his first day at this daycare. The whole time I was in the 1 year old room, his teacher did not greet either of us, did not offer to show us where to put things....nothing. I had to go up to her and ask her right as I had to leave. She did barely anything to comfort my son when he burst into tears when I went to leave. All big red flags to me. It continued like that for our whole time there and from the times I was able to check in on the livestreams, it was the same thing from this teacher -- bare minimum greetings or verbal/app updates, no warmth towards my son as he'd walk around crying by himself throughout the mornings, no attempts to get him to join the other babies as she sat in the corner with them like a lazy lump doing no activities any time I looked in. Wouldn't know if she ever did since she never sent a single update picture the entire time we stayed there. Every day when I dropped him off and picked him up, he would totally melt down and cling to me--very different from his typical personality and even very different from his quick and easy adjustment period at his last daycare. The only day he seemed happy at pickup AND the only day we got a single picture update was a day another teacher covered. That teacher actually led art activities and I saw her smiling and engaging with him and the other babies each time I checked the livestream. The difference in his demeanor was night and day, after just one day On top of all that, he was being offered hardly any water while he was there with the normal teacher, as evidenced by a sudden and notable change in his BMs, his desire to guzzle the water I offered him at pick up and from me beginning to monitor the water level of his cup at drop off and pick up (which didn't change at all on multiple days) When we toured, one of my main concerns was that his last daycare wasn't actually taking the babies outside to play at all and we were assured these kiddos went out practically every single morning. I did tend to bring him at the tail end of the time the babies were supposed to be outside most mornings, but there was never any sign of the others being outside. Yet, when I would check the cameras to see if my baby was having a better time later in the AM (about an hour or so after drop off and the time they were meant to be outside), the kids wouldn't be visible on cameras as it seemed they were outside.... I asked about this and was told they werent actually outside at this time, just "watching the other kids play from the door"....because why?? Sounds kind of mean to not let them get their own play time, but make them watch others play...probably just because the teachers themselves wanted to socialize. That's an assumption, to be fair, but not far fetched imo To be transparent, we were only there for about 2 weeks/7 actual days. I let the director know concerns at disenrollment but didn't wait around for her to address them--time is short and everything in my gut was saying this situation sucked for him. The director didn't seem bad, and the rest of the staff was at least friendly on surface level so 2 stars instead of 1 SO happy we switched places, as it was an immediate change in his happiness and demeanor on day 1 and every single day since. We're greeted warmly and he gets right into playing happily. Hes all smiles at pickup, and we get tons of activity photos all day long. They go outside every morning and sometimes in PM and his poo is magically back to normal! Have had a great experience with my family attending open arms. Had countless issues with another daycare and transferred over to open arms and haven't looked back since. Caring, friendly staff who actively engages with the kids and creates a comfortable environment for the parents. I suspect physical abuse on my 3 year old grandson. Investigation in progress. My grandson reports being spanked in areas where there weren't cameras. We provided stars and charts for positive reinforcement. The staff did not understand behavior modification and removed stars for bad behavior. read more

I absolutely love this place. We used to drive almost an hour just to have our daughter go here. The staff is very caring and addresses any concerns immediately. The teachers really care and love for all the kids. They treat my son and daughter like family!

We have been taking my daughter here for two years now and just started my infant son there recently. Our daughter started in the infant classroom. She has since also been in the ones classroom and is now in the older twos classroom. She has had favorite teachers in each classroom and we've had several of the girls even babysit for us because we love them so much. When in the infant classroom, our daughter loved Ms. Lily, Ms. Caprice, and Ms. Frances. In the ones classroom she always talked about Ms. Savannah and Ms. Madisun. Now, in her twos classroom, we hear from her all the time - "Ms. Jasmine good teacher. Ms. Hannah good teacher." :) We truly love this center and all the women there - and I can see how much they love and care for my children. They are excited to see the kids each day and greet them with enthusiasm. They track by date all physical, mental, emotional milestones on forms in a binder for each child and stimulate development in each. They have learning themes each week (ocean, Halloween, cold weather, etc.) where every day they have a craft, music time, book, and/or physical activity to teach on that theme. They send home the kids crafts regularly and it is so cute to see how proud my daughter is of the things she made. Classroom environments are colorful and stimulating. There are posters on the walls of colors, shapes, numbers, letters, facial expressions that they use to teach the kids on those topics. There is a variety of toys that the kids freely have access to during the day. Clean, comfortable sleeping cribs/ cots are provided to my kids. I really think a lot of the reason my daughter has a good sleep schedule is because of Open Arms. The kids are on a consistent eating and sleeping schedule each day which gives them a good amount of structure that they thrive on. They are given a variety of foods - my daughter is not a picky eater at all and I know community mealtimes with her friends at school has taught her to enjoy a meal with others and not be picky (seeing other kids eat many foods encourages her to as well). They support potty training children well and are a huge reason why we were able to get my daughter successfully potty trained by age 2. And I guess to address my experience with some of the issues folks brought up in other reviews. -Biting: my daughter is not a biter, but has been bitten a few times. Unfortunately, some kids are going to go through a biting phase and what I look for is how the center responds to it. Any time this happened, we were notified by and "Ouchie Report" for my daughter. The biting child's parent receives an "Incident Report." The teachers work with the biting child's parents and the child to resolve the behavior. I feel this is as good a response as any by the center to give the biting child a little grace - they have big emotions they are learning to process. -Cameras: I have never, ever seen any inappropriate behavior by a teacher to my daughter on the cameras. Only snuggles, playfulness, and good direction (to use the restroom, to sit down at mealtimes, to sit in reading circles/ for learning activities, to get coats on and go outside). I am grateful they even make cameras available to us - centers don't have to do that - and it allows me to check in on my babies when I miss them during the day. - Cleanliness of Classrooms: Daily, when I walk into the center, I smell one of two things - cleaning products or yummy food being made. I have seen the cleaning the girls do on the cameras every day (shuffling kids to be able to sweep/ mop, wiping down surfaces, etc.) - I know the facility is regularly wiped/ mopped/ tended to. Sometimes when I walk into the classroom to pick my kids up, yes there are toys everywhere, but I also know those were all picked up when the kids were napping and have since been taken out again - and that means she and her friends are having fun, playing. Children make constant messes and it is seriously a wonder to me how a couple teachers keep up with 10-plus kids per room. - Lost items/ Cleanliness of kids: My personal rule is I don't send my kids to daycare in items that I am worried about getting messy or lost. That being said, my daughter has only ever lost a couple of bows at daycare. As her parent, if I notice an item of her's is missing (clothes, etc.), I ask the girls the next day if they've seen it and they are always able to locate it- minus the two bows. :) Also, if I pick up my daughter and she has marker/ craft supplies on her fingers, clothes, maybe some on her face - I know she did an activity that day. If she has dust on her knees and butt, I know she played outside. If she has spaghetti stains on her shirt and pants, I know she was fed. Kids are going to get dirty - that doesn't mean they haven't been cared for or looked after. Overall, we love Open Arms and would recommend it to anyone! read more

I have taken both my children here, my first is now school age but went here for 5 years. We brought my second here starting at 5 months old and its been the same great experience. We love the ones and two year old rooms, always clean, plenty of appropriate toys some even montessori style. Mrs. Jasmine and Mrs. Jacquie have potty trained my child in only a few months, they are all my 2.5 year old talks about. She is always happy when I drop her off and excited to hug her teachers and friends. Administration is always answering the phone, even when I call for ridiculous reasons. I have been taking my 2 year old for about 6 months now, and it's been a really good experience primarily because of his teacher Ms. Jasmine. He seems comforted by her, doesn't fuss when I bring him in when she's there. She has initiated potty training, does art projects, and she is always cheerful, and I see she treats the kids well. I'm a pediatric nurse and know how much patience it requires working with kids. This is such a hard profession, being a caretaker to other people's kids, and I feel so much better bringing him when she's there because of how she treats my son and the other toddlers. The rest of the staff is great, friendly and always greets me when I come in. I see them cleaning frequently which is important to see, and they always alert us when there is a particular sickness going around the center. I would recommend this preschool/daycare to other parents and pleased with my experience so far. read more

It is 60 degrees and children are outside with no jackets! All the jackets are in the room sitting there . Kids faces are extremely dirty & snotty and no one cleans them, the classroom furniture is ruined and not taken care of, the floors are extremely dirty, the teachers make up there own rules and denied my daughter breakfast when she came in at 7:52. (They are supposed to stop serving at 8) the office barely answers the phone when parents call. There are constant teacher changes and when you walk in the room kids are running around crazy . My daughter doesn't learn anything here. I have called and left a message for the regional mgr and will be filing a complaint with DES and state. read more

My children have attending Open Arms since 14 months ago . I have no complaints about this facility. Just gratitude . My children love the teachers and everyone ( the entire staff ) is great ! My 2 yo daughter calls her teachers mom ! my 3 yo son I think he is getting more independent now in his new classroom With Ms.Haley. The whole staff is great, they care about the children . plus they get to know the kids. I want to thank all the teachers for their attention and care for my children. It is not easy to entrust your children to others but open arms and their teachers make it easier. They have never been hit or bitten by any other child. They always explain to me how their day was and let me know if one of my children is not feeling well. We had our son there from 8 to 14 months. Not the worst experience but not great either. Messy, unkempt and chaotic rooms on a daily basis. Our baby would come home with boo boos and random non-edible things in his mouth regularly. Communication is generally poor. Ms. Dominique and Ms. Lilly were the best and most well trained. Couldn't say the same about others. Their school director should not be in that position and does not set a great example either. I came in frantic one morning after my baby vomited in the car and her response was "I don't do vomit". And walked away. We took him to a different school and the experience has been vastly different. I strongly recommend doing your own research before choosing this as the daycare for your baby. read more

All I can say is that Open Arms is the best daycare center ever! My daughter is been going there for quite a while and has fallen in love with every single teacher that she's had especially Jasmine and Haley. Have taken both kids here, the teachers make the school. Miss Madison and ms. Summer were awesome teachers in the ones room. And all the other teachers in the twos room, ms. Jackie and Ms jasmine, there some new teachers too and I hope they all get trained by these teachers. In 2014, this center had 19 citations from their State Inspection. In 2015, they had 3 state visits with a total of 14 citations and 1 Civil Penalty. The absolute best infant teachers in Tucson! My kids have gone through the infant room with Ms. Doreen and they both have progressed beyond my expectations. These devoted teachers are a cut way above the rest. This school makes all families feel welcome and will specialize the needs of your kids. After researching several learning centers in town, we are soo glad we chose Open Arms. Day in and day out our children have received the best in early childhood education. If we were not treated sooo well with the infant room teachers, we would've left a long time ago. My husband and I are grateful for Ms. Doreen and her professionalism, honesty and expertise. Just removed by 2 yo from this facility. He has been attending since October 2021. He is a biter, but also 2, so doesnt like toys being taken away from him. Seemed to be doing well and would walk in to the room by himself without crying when I left until the last couple of weeks. Now he would cling to me and cry when I tried to leave. Yesterday I happened to peek in on the camera to see how he was doing and witnessed a staff member (young girl) grab him by the arm, jerk his arm, point her finger in his face with anger, aggressively walk him over to a rug area and forcefully sit him down. He was already crying before she approached him, so I assume he had a fight and bit another child (incident report) at that time. The cameras live stream only, no recording for evidence (go figure). I did report to DES. The two other staff (young girls) in the room deny what I witnessed, so I have no proof, and the employee was allowed to keep her job, so no choice but to remove my child from the environment. I have witnessed other disturbing accounts also with a staff member (young girl) yelling in the face of another very small child, an older child crying sitting on a chair facing the wall, another child drinking from my child's water bottle. They have also lost 3 sets of my child's clothes (shirts and shorts). I actually liked this girl and had no reason to suspect she would mistreat my child, until I saw it with my own eyes. I even left another facility to enroll him here because they have a 4 star rating and just down the road from me. WATCH THE CAMERAS PARENTS!! You just never know for sure. read more

As a first time mom, finding a daycare was a bit of an overwhelming task. But after getting several recommendations for Open Arms, I decided I had to check it out. From the very first time I visited Open Arms to take a tour, I felt very welcomed. The directors and teachers were not only informative, but compassionate; as they knew I would be bringing my 3 month old daughter and was feeling a little anxious about it all. I left that day feeling so confident in my decision to have my daughter attend Open Arms. However, even with all the confidence I had in Open Arms, I didn't realize just how emotional I would be when dropping my daughter off at daycare on her first day. Ms. Doreen was in the infant room that morning, and I will never forget how comfortable and reassured she made me feel, that not only would my daughter be taken care of, but she would be loved. Before I even left the parking lot that day, I logged on to Watch Me Grow (another wonderful feature of Open Arms, where you can see real-time video surveillance of your child) and saw Sofia being rocked in a rocking chair. My mama heart was so happy. And it continues to be happy. The teachers give a detailed report each day of when she ate, went to the bathroom, slept and what activities they did. A portfolio is created for each child with some of these fun activities, including my favorite so far-a blue bird created from Sofia's tiny footprint! Each Friday, there is a theme, and when it was Hippie Day recently, the teachers tie-dyed a shirt for each of the children. These are just some of the many examples of how the teachers at Open Arms go above and beyond for the children and families. I thought going back to work and leaving my daughter with "strangers" at daycare would be tremendously hard. But the teachers at Open Arms are far from strangers to my daughter and our family. It didn't take long for us to realize just how much they care about each child in their program and the lengths they go to each day to create quality interactions. I am so thankful to have found Open Arms and can't express my gratitude enough for the kindness they have shown to our family. read more

Open Arms Early Learning Center gets 5 stars in my book! I believe Open Arms has received top awards largely due to their new director, Annette Romo. Her leadership is evident with her dedicated staff, friendly front office, and tight knit curriculum that meets the Arizona state standards. My children have been attending Open Arms for the past four years. When I started with Open Arms I had a one year old boy and a two year old girl. Ms. Alicia welcomed my precious little one year old, literally with open arms everyday. She made my son feel loved and me feel comfortable when I dropped him off each day. The staff worked hard with my daughter, who was two and brought with her issues from foster care. These issues plagued us on a daily basis, but with the staff's love, understanding and empathy, my daughter grew to be more confident, safe and secure and found success as she moved up through the grade levels. Her teachers helped prepared her both emotionally and academically for kindergarten which she began this past August. It's because of the teacher's hard work and dedication that my daughter is now a shining student and loving kindergarten today. I have a special place in my heart for the teachers in the infant room. I had two infants in their care and I never once felt uncomfortable or leery leaving my babies in the mornings. I knew they were being well taken care of, never neglected. Plus, they did the cutest art projects with their hands and feet that I have since sent away to be published in a book. I believe the Open Arms infant room is the best in Southern Arizona. They truly LOVE the babies and it shows. As a foster mom dealing with the many facets of the foster care system, occasionally there can be break down between agencies and daycare facilities. When issues surfaced with my foster child, Annette assured me they would be taken care of and for me not to worry. Again, Annette made me feel like she was working with me and not against me. She helped alleviate what could have been a very stressful and ugly situation into no situation at all. For that I was thankful. Then, when a tragedy struck my family and I had four young children in Open Arms, Annette and her staff were there to lend their moral support as well as help with my day care challenges on a daily basis. Everyone was extremely understanding when this unfortunate situation happened to my family. I have no hesitation in recommending Open Arms to any parent who wants a positive learning and social environment for their child. The staff is outstanding, curriculum is excellent, facility is neat and clean and the director is wonderful. Open Arms has been a stable, healthy, positive environment for my babies and they are truly loved on by their teachers. What more could I ask for!! I love this day care and my children do, too. Our 3 year old daughter has attended Open Arms for the past 2.5 years and my 6 month old has been there since 6 weeks old. We could not be happier with their location, teachers, and overall class. This facility is of the highest standards and they treats my children with as much love and respect as I would. Upon arriving to the school each morning we are greeted and every teacher and support staff know my children, my husband and myself by name. I was a preschool teacher my self for 6 years and have a degree in early childhood education and this school ensures that their teachers are kept up to date on all the newest research regarding young children, how they learn, and how to promote the development of skills. My 3 year old can currently recite the whole alphabet, identify by sight 10 letters (including all the letters in her name), count to 25, identify by site 6 numbers under 10, is engaged in imaginary play, tracking while she pretends to read, and most importantly enjoy the process of learning. My children's social skills improve each and every day and they are both learning, willing, and enjoy sharing. My daughter's PCP is currently recommending that I start looking at private schools for my child due to her advanced functioning and a public school not being able to meet her educational needs. These advances are a direct result of Open Arms dedication to my child's education. Although this school is educationally based it does not stop them from having fun. The school has events after hours and on weekends and encourage parents involvement. They have "date night" which allow parents to leave their children at the school after hours to enjoy a night on the town, and always have fun holiday parties and performances. Another really exciting aspect of this facility is the Watch Me Grow program. This program allows me to watch my children in their classrooms during the day while I am work. It's hard enough to have to leave your children for so many hours out of the day and this program helps ensure that I don't miss the "little things" in their lives. On top of the out standing educational experience that my children receive each and every day the school has a scholarship program that has permitted my children to have this experience. Without this scholarship program my children would not be able attend this school and have the opportunity to gain the foundation that will support them throughout their lives. My daughter has been attending Open Arms for almost 2 years now and I am so happy with the choice we made back when she was 2 to get her into their facility. The teachers are so sweet, they genuinely care for their students and their growth in education and human interaction skills. My daughter has learned and grown so much while being there, and the added comfort of the cameras being accessible by me during my workday is incomparable. The school is clean, secure, and staffed with the best of the best. The events they put on are always a hit, and the activities they do with the kids are always so cute and educational. After visiting numerous Day Cares in the area Open Arms really stood out. The staff and teachers are incredibly helpful and made the transition easy. My oldest son has been attending since he was 3 months old and the truest testament to me is that he loves going to school everyday. My son has been going to Open Arms Preschool since he was 2, he is 3 years old now and I am very pleased to say that the teachers are awesome. When he started he was talking very little English, since Spanish is our first language at home and thanks to the teachers and the curriculum that they provide his vocabulary has expanded so much and he is more social. The teachers go above and beyond for their families and do truly care for their children. I don't see my son going anywhere else, Open Arms is truly an awesome school.
