Unfortunately, not as good as one would have hoped.
The sun was shining and my mother and I were craving something on the alcoholic side. Me being me, I also wanted something to snack on. :) in the mood for something to share, and not a meal, I quickly googled a tapas bar near where we were that brought up Onyx as a suitable suitor. Right-O. StrAight b-line across the road and before long, we had plonked ourselves down and ordered the first ound of drinks as we were being seated. Out they came, open up. Down the hatch and before long, they were gone. Then that's where things started going pear shaped.
Admittedly, we arrived at about 3:30 which must have been their cross over time between lunch and dinner. However, there were about 3 other tables seated. There was only one bar staff and one waitress. However, she was tending to the change over of the tables. Therefore, it took us about 10 minutes to try and flag her down. We managed to get service to order another round of delicious beverages and Tapas items.
When the orders were raised, it did not take long for the items to come out. On our selected menu, we ordered the Duck Pancakes, Feta and Mushroom Arancini and Tempura Haloumi.
The duck pancakes. Pretty much a deconstructed Peking Duck. (Oh I Love my Peking Duck) Out on the plate came the pancakes, diced duck meat, cucumber, shallots and the Hoi Sin Sauce. Unfortunately, the pancakes were on their way to stale, the meat was dry and the cucumber was far from freshly cut.
The Arancini, although cooked well, had no flavor to it. We couldn't taste any garlic, there was only one small piece of Feta spread across 2 balls and no stringy cheese as I'm used to.
The Haloumi. Haloumi is god's cheese. However, the way that this was cooked resembled a potato scallop from the fish and chip store. Very greasy and oilly. Very Big Disappointment.
Although very disappointed in the meal. The Cocktails are awesome. read more
