I fell in love with a glass of shiraz at Little Truffle on Friday night. The food was decent, too. I made the mistake of having a sauv blanc with my entree before switching to red for my main - sometimes I get stuck in the "white wine for white meat, red wine for red meat" mantra. I guess I'm lucky that I did that or I may not have tried the shiraz at all. Of course, I didn't actually take proper note of what the shiraz was, because I was too distracted by how I was going to deal with the nightmare of a motel waiting for me later that night.
Once again, I sighted the issue of businesses having outdated menus on their websites. Dear friends, don't get your hopes up for any particular menu item from any online menu ever! I need to actually learn from this mistake instead of continuing to make it. Look... it wasn't all bad. It just meant that instead of having the pan fried barramundi fillet with sand crab tortellini, sweet potato purée, figs and bacon crisp... I ended up having the "August Special" of braised beef cheeks, cauliflower & truffle purée, sautéed bacon and horseradish gremolata. Look, it wasn't a bad consolation prize. Add the shiraz and I didn't give a damn about the seafood dish I'd had to let go of. Actually, come to think of it, if I'd had that seafood dish I probably wouldn't have had the shiraz... GUYS, MY MIND JUST MELTED A BIT
Anyway. The service was a little cold and the floor was tiled, which was a bit strange. Perhaps the space had existed as a retail store before it became a restaurant, or something like that? I guess it felt a bit "beach hotel foyer" rather than "bathroom/laundry", but still... tiles. Wrong. I'm settling on three stars for the tiles, disinterested service and outdated web menu. read more
