Pretty drinks, & atmosphere ! I'll be honest the service was really good, the food came out on time and the waiters were very attentive, but the food itself was very simplistic for the price paid. There was nothing wrong with our food but I feel like you can go to another place for good quality Greek and pay only a fraction of the price. Sadly did not try the desserts as we had gelato Messina just outside the The Calile Still enjoyed my time there though ! One of the best Greek restaurants eva!!!!! and exceptional service!! We ordered the banquet.. by the 4th course was already full. Had been eating all day! The octopus was charged and juicy. Lamb shoulder melted off the bone. The sakanaki although not my fav was gobbled and cleared in 5 mins. The fish was grilled to perfection we couldn't finish it. I've tried a lot of cuisines in my life, but Greek has never been a centre piece in my palate of go-to meals. Nevertheless, I really really enjoyed my tasting menu at Hellenika. The roe dip and fried cheese were delicious starters with greatly contrasting flavors. But really, all I want to wax lyrical about was the salted pork belly. Oh em gee. No really. Oh em gee. If I wasn't concerned about how I look slowly savoring pork, I'd post this hilarious pic my dining partner took of me eating 3 slices. The crackling was just perfectly crisp, while the intervening layers of meat were tender. There wasn't a spool of oil anywhere (like you often get with Balinese babi guleng or Chinese roast pork) and none of that musty pig 'smoke'. Oh it was divine. read more

Nicely decorated Greek restaurant and service was good, but my god, there was far too much salt on everything! I usually add extra salt on my food so believe me when I saw this was eye squintingly salty. We ordered the taramasalada, saganaki and pork belly with leek. For our final meal on the Gold Coast before heading back to the Melbourne was at the newly opened Hellenika. This place has the food base of Hellenic Republic but without the 3-month waiting list and stuffiness that surrounds it. The restaurant is situated once again in Nobby's Beach by the Gold Coast Highway and within walking distance of the shoreline. It is a fabulous Greek restaurant dishing up authentic Greek cuisine that hits the closest to dishes that were served in Athens' Greece and it's surrounding islands when I visited recently. The interior is bare red brick walls with paintings of the 3 main Greek food groups - Chicken, Lamb and Goat. It has a traditional charcoal grill and is homely enough to entice return visits. Wooden tables and chairs are positioned in the room to take full advantage of either the view of the sunset or of the kitchen. The menu is based around Greek basics done well. You have a choice of the Signature or Standard Menu. As we were being foodie as possible and eating around 4 meals a day we opted for the standard and chose a mix of dishes to share. To begin we started small with the Mezedes (small plates of food best accompanied with a drink) and worked ourselves up to the larger dishes. Saganaki was first to hit the table - a grilled sheep's milk cheese was to be eaten quickly after squeezing a burst of lemon over the top. The grilled outer layer gave the cheese a smokiness that would have otherwise been missing. My mum had been talking up the Kolokithia - zucchini chips - with a vengeance. The batter was similar to what is found in Japanese tempura but with the addition of a small amount of lightly grated cheese. I would have preferred a little less oil but this was a Greek restaurant so I would expect nothing less. The Spanikopita was a revelation. I am not one to get excited about spinach and feta filo pastries and the filo did look like it was going to be a little too dense and thick. But biting into the large parcel of wonderful got me by the horns. And lucky that the serves were so large because if they were the usual small size I would have gone back for seconds. The filo pastry was just that - perfectly light and crispy. The local pan-fried calamari was the closest thing I have seen in an Aussie Greek restaurant that harkens back to what you would expect to receive in Greece. The octopus was not battered, but grilled to give it a pungent smokiness and then drizzled (aka drowned) in virgin olive oil. We also opted for what the waitress described as the 'safe' Greek salad - but it was perfectly matched with all the dishes we ordered. Bada Boom - Salty Pork Belly with Leeks. This dish was a nice little serve of heaven. The meat was perfectly tender, nicely seasoned and the crackling hit the spot. No issues with the dish - just that when you are having to share it with 4 people you only get a few pieces - but what pieces they are. We were tossing up which large dish we should choose. We were initially leaning towards the stifado - 6-hour beef cheek and onion stew. But we opted for their signature dish, the 5-hour slow cooked shoulder of lamb. It left us speechless as it melted in our mouths. The lamb was accompanied by some of the best potatoes I have ever had in my life. I am not sure how they were cooked but I am going to ask next time I visit so that I can give them a crack at home. I have been told that so many orders come through for this dish that at times you will find yourself missing out so ordering ahead is a good idea. Simon Gloftis' hospitality backgrounds shines through with the wait staff being on song helping to create a foodie hub for locals. A great location and uplifting atmosphere, this is one that deserves a few return visits. A great option to eat at before a flight out from the Gold Coast Airport too - leave on an even higher note. What can I say...I'm stuffed and it feels amazing. After walking past this place numerous times, only dreaming about the day that I'd eat here...it finally happened. The food is simply divine, the service is outstanding and the atmosphere is wonderful. Now you might end up spending a fair bit of money but believe me when I say you will not regret one cent of it. Today we enjoyed the following; saganaki - grilled sheeps milk cheese (tangy and delicious) kolokithia - zucchini chips (this has only made me love zucchini even more) perfectly crunchy with just the right amount of cheese sheftalia - cypriot meatballs (very dense very meaty and tasty) souvlakia- tasty tasty chicken herby and tangy with the lemon drizzled and the fresh tzatziki mouruli salata - crunchy cos lettuce , dill, spring onion, lemon We also had a most wonderful dessert the name of which I can't remember it was a walnut and honey cake with halva ice-cream. Like I said... I'm stuffed. The serving sizes were perfect. Between the two of us, including two glasses of wine we spent just under $120. We will be back. read more

Dined here last week as part of a group of 20 part of a Work Conference on the Gold Coast. We had the Banquet Menu, the staff were attentive & service overall was very good for such a large group! Banquet Menu: saganaki (grilled sheep's milk cheese) - yum yum yum!!! kalamari (tasmanian calamari) - not my favourite but good garides (mooloolaba king prawns) - delish! hirino (salty pork belly w leeks) - delicious loved it psari (daily local fresh fish) - bit too fishy for my liking served w village salad (arni sto fourno) - very tasty fresh salad nice to combat the saganaki slow baked junee lamb shoulder (house speciality) - no wonder its the house speciality its just soooo good!! glyka (fresh watermelon) - Nice fresh way to end the meal! little greek sweets - There was this ginger type cake & I just couldnt get enough of it - loved it!!! I didnt try the Dolmades or Kapnisto however they were a hit with the rest of the table. I have to say that the Vodka Lemon Lime & Bitters I was ordering were very weak - but that was my only disappointment. Hellenika is my favourite restaurant on the Gold Coast. This is Greek food at its best, fresh, moreish and tasty. It's the best of simple flavours done exceedingly well, and having been there on multiple occasions, it's really remarkable how consistently well the food is cooked... it's never overcooked or over-salted. A delight. If you're looking for somewhere to start, try the basic banquet. You definitely will not go home hungry. It's almost absurd that there's an upgraded banquet option with a couple of extra dishes... I don't know anyone who can eat that much, and my friends and I can EAT. If you're going for individual dishes, make sure that you definitely try the baked junee lamb, the beef cheek and onion stew, the crispy pork belly with salty leeks, the pan-fried cheese, the trout dip, the chargrilled octopus... I'd keep going, but I think you get the idea... it's all good! It's not the cheapest place in town, but the service is a cut above, the winelist is extensive and remarkable, and the food is just sublime. Make sure you reserve a table several days in advance if you want to eat at a normal hour on a weekend. They have plenty of tables, but always booked out! read more

I've really enjoyed my experiences at Hellenika! The banquet is truly phenomenal - Greek food done perfectly! You will be stuffed and satisfied and only to be disappointed that you didn't have room for more! The final dish was the lamb shoulder, which was cooked to perfection - falling off the bone (given how joyously full I was at this stage, it would have been very easy to resist anything other than the culinary delight that was before me). I visited this restaurant earlier 2012 with a friend and my wife. Well.....we are from Italian families so dining is a lengthy process. My friend worked in the food industry for years and is extremely cautious and fussy what he eats. He enjoyed every morsel. We went for some bread and dips for starters. Great. then opted for the lamb shanks. You know a meal where you know you should stop eating cause you are full but just can't. Well be warned and prepared. The Italians cook lamb shank very well, this left their style in the shade as you would expect from the Greek community. My wife could only eat half her meal. She did however get extra bread to soak up the juices. I told you she was Italian. On a personal note, the restaurant is a rectangular deep box and we had a table of youngish women with piercing voices behind us. Nearly bad enough to ask them to tone it down, but Greek or Italian meals are noisy affairs. The walls are bare so I guess the sound bounced. We'll be back, but you must book especially in spring and summer. I'm a hard marker so probably a 5 and priced quite reasonably. read more

Was a great meal each course was better than the next, a lot of food wish I has paced myself more. Lamb is outstanding slow cooked and falls off the bone. I have eaten here before and thought the food and service was good. However, last Friday night (29th November 2013) I was with two others and thought it would be good to grab something quick to eat, maybe a dessert as well. The time was 9.00pm. The restaurant had many guests but also some empty tables. We asked if we could get something to eat like dessert etc and we were told that we couldn't because of their licensing laws. We had to have something to eat as well. So we agreed, that we would have something to eat but then we were told that no, they couldn't accept us. Now, we were not acting in an unacceptable manner at all. Male, female and teenage son. We were all very surprised to be turned away after agreeing that we would have a meal. With the number of quality of restaurants all vying for your hard earned dollar, I certainly won't be sharing mine with them again. read more

Hellenika restaurant is an average Greek restaurant on the Gold Coast. It isn't in my opinion a 4 - 5 star restaurant by any means. Being Greek myself I must say that the food is extremely over priced for what it is. The $65 banquet I ordered for my five family members was a rip off. Essentially we paid to be filled up on bread, I read the reviews and was extremely excited to dine here but was very disappointed upon leaving. The food is ok it's not the best. I didn't find any of my meals to be great, they were good but not great, the service was friendly but for the price I paid I expected no less. All in all Hellenika is just average it's not worth the prices they charge and the food is ok. But it is very hard to find nice Greek cuisine at a reasonable price without being Greek yourself. read more

Had the banquet and the food was great! We loved every bit of it. We also found visiting the restaurant previously it was very noisy and hard to hear when talking at the table. They have now fixed this by changing the roof and it was extremely pleasant. read more
