But I finally gave them a try and I'm glad I did. I got the lava bowl - seaweed, edamame, ginger (I love me some ginger), tobiko, jalapenos, and lava sauce. I chose ahi tuna as my protein and brown rice as my base, which helped cool off the spiciness of the dish. I do wish it would have come with a drink, but that's ok. I might omit the jalapenos next time, but overall, it was a great dish, and I would definitely order it again. I was honestly shocked by the quality of poke here. Located in the Pizitz, which is infamous for restaurants consistently opening and closing, Ono Poke is tasty, reliable, and affordable. Especially if you work in downtown, this is a great lunch option that is in walkable distance. I always order their larger bowl, which only costs about $14. For seafood, this is a steal. My preferred protein choice is their salmon, and I always overload my bowl with toppings. The workers are very friendly, but most importantly, efficient. Yum! I just LOVE poke bowls. Okay, I have only ever had poke bowls at this Ono Poke and their Homewood location. They are just so light and refreshing. You got your grain, your protein, your veggies, your toppings, your sauces....a balanced meal really! I got a salmon and shrimp bowl here most recently. So good. I usually get a big bowl which is actually their smaller bowl. It's 16 oz so pretty filling if you ask me. If you love poke, you can get a kahuna bowl. I got my bowl topped with rice seasoning, cucumbers, edamame, crunch, and tobiko. I always get my sauces on the side so I can pour them in as I go. I can never remember which sauces I like ha! The wasabi aioli is always good though and only one I can pick out of a lineup really. I am a relatively new yelper; however, this review is way way overdue. I've been coming to the Pizitz Ono Poke for roughly a year and a half....probably more if I'm being completely honest. The first time I tried Ono Poke I had actually never had a poke bowl, so they started something and I try one whenever it's on the menu somewhere else, but it's just not the same. I remember the first time I ordered, not knowing what would pair good with what and just basically being intimidated by the process. OMG, I got over that real fast once I took the first bite. This place is not only the best poke place in Birmingham, I believe it's my favorite restaurant EVER. The staff members are so nice and actually remember your name..(Candis with an s). Side note -- it's honestly from me coming 1+ times a week, but still NICE! I cannot say enough good things about this place!! Everyone is always so upbeat and just having fun while working, which makes customers feel that same vibe. I have never had a bad experience here...and I've been to the Pizitz location at least 100 times and have even ventured out to the Homewood location. Both awesome! I've tried many fish selections and they are always so fresh. My favorite is the Salmon, but Ahi Tuna comes in close second. It doesn't matter what you order, it will always be delicious. It wouldn't let me put it in the picture description, but this is my go-to order: big bowl with brown rice/mixed greens, salmon, rice seasoning, cucumbers, sweet onion, edamame and crunch with samurai and spicy aioli. I always go to Pizitz wanting to try something new, but Ono Poke gets me every time! If I could give these guys more than 5 stars, I definitely would..they deserve it! read more

This was our first visit to the Pizitz Food Hall, and we decided to check out Ono. We ordered the large Crunch Bowl with Ahi Tuna which was $15. The bowl was a nice combination of ingredients and the tuna tasted fresh and well-marinaded...but $15 is a little high for a poke bowl. I feel like we could have gotten the same thing for ~$10 in Boston, but it may just be more expensive to get fresh fish in Birmingham. Great meal for my first trip to the Pizitz Food Hall. I had been seeing reviews for this place popping up since they opened. So I had a feeling this was what I was going for even though I was technically "undecided" before I arrived. It was a Sunday night and not very crowded. So ordering was really easy. I decided to go with the spicy tuna in the crunch bowl. I don't mean to pat myself on the back, but I really think it was a great overall decision. (Pats self on back) The combination of flavors was really good. The edamame and cucumber made it taste very fresh, while the "crunch" added great textures. The rice was tasty, but was a little hotter (temperature) than I have had in other poke. I by no means think it should be cold, but it didn't seem cool enough yet. The fish had a great flavor. I personally would have preferred the fish in a little bigger cubes like they did with the salmon (someone in our group got that). But overall, fresh and tasty. I am excited for my next trip to Ono. I foresee a summer of craving fresh, delicious, raw fish from them. read more
