My cousin really liked this place so we swung by the drive thru to pick up some food. She got the Chicken Katsu plate and I ordered the Hawaiian BBQ Beef plate. Both plates also come with rice, veggies, and mac salad. You could also ask to substitute one of the rice scoops for a mac salad or vice versa for more rice. Wait time was a little long in the drive thru, there were a couple of cars in front of us while we were in line. It's probably because everything is made to order and there were many orders in line and inside.I can't comment on the service inside the place and the atmosphere there, so it will just be about the food. Everything we ordered was very delicious. I tried some of the Chicken Katsu and it was tasty, it had a nice crisp and it also came with katsu sauce too. But for me, the Hawaiian BBQ was the star of the show. The beef was flavorful, it was chewy, and I have no complaints. I'm also very particular about mac salad, but I really liked this one. It wasn't too sweet, sauce was light, and tasted slightly savory which I preferred. The veggies were a nice touch too, the cabbage was crunchy and refreshing. I'd like to preface this by saying my family is from Hawaii so a decent plate lunch is hard to come by the side of the Pacific. On a Hawaiian barbecue is a well known chain that does its best to offer a plate lunch. Traditionally a plate lunch two scoops of rice, Mac salad, and your entrée of choice. The one thing that you will notice right away is that most Hawaiian inspired places add weird things into their Mac salad. And that is the biggest giveaway for one something is inspired by someone's vacation versus someone who has had their share of plate lunch. Now onto my review, the location was clean and quaint on a rainy afternoon around two Ish so not a peak service hour. I opted for a mini plate of chicken Katsu and "one can soda" aka Hawaiian Sun canned juice. From order place to order up it was less than five minutes, fairly fast, considering that a lot of people seem to complain about the time of service. The rice was well made... not too wet not too dry and the mac salad didn't contain any extra ingredients thank goodness. The chicken Katsu was a little bit on the thick side with the pieces being a bit fatty however, it was well fried and not drenched in oil. I will say the veggies were a nice touch for the mini plate and upon finishing my meal, I felt comfortable and not over stuffed. I'd recommend getting the full plate for larger appetites. The dining room was clean and the staff appeared to be doing their best to wipe down tables and refill and restock the drink area. All in all my experience was pleasant. I'm not sure how they do in the drive-thru as my sister has mentioned they are hit and miss and sometimes even run out of rice! I'll probably go back and check it out another day during a busier hour to see if this affects service or maybe even try risking the drive-thru. That being said, I don't recall any drive thru plate lunch places. Most are drive in and pick up your order to go. I imagine frying things to order slow those things down quite a bit. read more

Not a review of the food or the staff. This 1-star is for the total lack of details on the food allergens. Instead of providing ingredient info to the kitchen the company hides all the ingredients in pre mixed bags of sauces and flour. And has a statement on its website that says we have all allergens known to the FDA. That's a cop out that companies use to cover their butts for liability reasons. It's not customer friendly. Think about it. This is a massive national franchise business with the resources to do better. Provide allergen info on the main menu items... Chicken, pork, seafood, beef, pork... They've updated their menus and decor but there they're Patrick practices are old school. P.s. This location has the noisiest cooking timers ever. I love this place! The Hawaiian macaroni salad is always a hit and I always get an extra side instead of rice. I had the beef and chicken combo which was delicious, tender and very flavorful . I ordered drive-through and the girl that took our order was very patient and answered all our questions about the different combos. I would always eat at Ono when I lived in Whittier and I'm glad they brought one out to the desert. This place is a bit irritating to me. It's getting to be too much hassle. The last few times I've been, you aren't allowed to place an order for various types of plates through the drive thru. They make it sound like they're doing me a favor by taking my order through the drive through, but then I have to park and go inside anyway as they cook it. From what I recall, it's the BBQ beef; shrimp: and chicken. Ugh. What a pain in the a$$ because this is the entire point of fast food. Now, the times of business are listed wonky. Yelp says one thing, their online site says another. It's 9pm and I'm trying to order ahead to pick up in the drive through but that option is entirely shut down. Why? I'm paying for it ahead of time and having to travel to pick it up. You mean you've shut your entire kitchen down of these menu items because it takes 10 minutes to prepare... but your site says you don't close your drive thru for another hour? Ugh! Okay. We get off and park. Maybe this will mean we can get food. It's 9:00 and they close the inside at 9:30. Their employees are already gathering everything up and cleaning. It smells of cleaning supplies and you can just tell they're checked out. Whether this is protocol set by the mgmt to get them out or their fast WHILE they are still operating OR the employees are just in a rush to leave; I don't know. It could be either at this point. In the end, they don't serve those plates after 9pm and we leave with nothing. This is really unheard of. I can't imagine another fast food joint doing all this nonsense and making some food items go completely offline. I just think this is way too much or a hassle and either the store or corporate makes it much more difficult than it needs to be. Stop shutting down the online pick-up or if people are abusing it, have the nads to make them wait like you do with everyone else. Me? My family? We don't go through the drive through until it says the food is done. Then, figure out your hours and protocol and do not be doing your cleaning while people are still eating. The rating is based on the food. Service was fine but we really just ordered and they called us up so nothing too extensive based on service. But the wait wasn't long. We sat and served our sauces and they are amazing. The teriyaki sauce comes out hot. Loved both the sauces and katsu one as well. The bbq chicken, and all the meats were amazing. The rice was so nice and fluffy. My favorites are the chicken, macaroni salad, which we got extra, and rice. The katsu had a nice crunch. Nicely made and fresh. So were the Rangoons. Hopefully it's a good one... Is that I was craving Kalua pork and they didn't offer it in the drive-through... They said that I would need to go inside and pay for it... How come I can't get it through the drive-through? Sounds weird. Is that just for today or what? Anyways, on to the food. Instead of the Kalua pork that I would've had to wait a second time for, I got the short ribs plate and it was good but it's not Kalua pork. The portion size is generous, and the short ribs were tender and fatty and that was delicious. The rice was done well and the macaroni salad was good but not what I'm used to maybe it's their famous tuna being added to it... Still better than trying to add potatoes lol. I'd order it again. Just doesn't have the nostalgia of what I grew up eating. My husband devoured the Hawaiian meat plate... I had a piece of the meat and it was good ... Let me begin with it is sooooo painfully slow, second the serving and quality of the food is like a 2.5 of a 5 star. The workers here are not to blame, clearly there needs to be a good leader that should focus on Customer service, quality , cleanliness and speed. They definitely need to have goals and plan efficiently to be able to execute all 4 focuses. It starts from the top, opening a restaurant and just ppl reporting to work is not enough. Stopped here a few days ago on the way home for lunch and ordered the Hawaiian BBQ chicken combo! The service was very fast and the ambiance was very Hawaiian themed! This place was awesome and amazing you get massive portions of chicken, rice, macaroni salad and a salad! The chicken was very juicy and flavorful! 1 combo plate could easily feed 2 people! Poor service bad management. Went there today with my brother ordered two meals when they called my number they gave me the wrong food took it to my table went through it and saw it wasn't mine took it back up and they were going to give that food to the person that did order it that person happened to be behind me and wanted nothing to do with it. I don't know if she left or she got her money back. then when she called my number again did not give me the food that I ordered. I ordered the Hawaiian mix and she only gave me the chicken Hawaiian not with any meat and I told her it was wrong. She said that's not what I ordered. I know what I ordered just because she did not write it down or whatever she tried to recharge me again to cancel both my orders, my order and my brothers order and stay let's start over. There were a lot of cars which was a good sign. We finally got our food. It was hot and smelled terrific. I ordered the Hawaiian BBQ Mix, a combo meal with beef, macaroni, cabbage, and chicken. I didn't care for rice so I asked for a triple macaroni side instead. I had to wait until I got home after dropping him off at his house. The food was hot and delicious. I noted that there were no extra sauces. The food was tasty. My meal was $15.49. Will I go back, YES! I gave them five stars. Being from Hawaii I'm very familiar with the chain and food. Welcome to Indio! The food was on point. Tasty as I know it. I got the BBQ mix plate so I could sample the beef, chicken and short ribs. All cooked to perfection and tender. The Macaroni salad was also superb. Since opening this place has been busy. There is sufficient staff to welcome you in and out. I arrived at the opening time 11am and they were busy already. The location is ideal. Right off the 10 Fwy in the Winco parking lot. The new facility is beautiful, clean and has sufficient parking.
