BBQ beef and firecracker chicken with a little spam musubi. Already ate the salad
Nicholas W.

Pretty basic Hawaaian BBQ but it really hits the spot.  BBQ beef and firecracker chicken are solid.  Kalua pork isn't bad.  Spam Mussubi is also really good if you're down with it being served hot (never had it this way but I preferred it).  The salad that comes in the combo plate is a good step up from your average free salad.   Portion size is not bad.  I would give it an easy 5 stars if it were pre-inflation prices, but even as is, I might increase it to 5 stars if I get to try more items.  Better than other Hawaaian BBQ chains for sure!

Decided to stop by since I was craving Hawaiian food. The cashiers were super friendly and the food was very tasty. The teriyaki sauce tasted great with the chicken katsu. I also liked that this place is in the same area as Target.

For $500 catering, they gave way too much rice and not much of the other food

Disappointing - I was just so disappointed in the catering. My brother bought the package that was supposed to feed 45-50 people. It was $500. Keep that in mind. It came with 2 large trays of white rice. I mean how much rice can 1 person eat? If you buy the combo meals, they give you a small scoop of rice so how come the package comes with so much of a filler?! Then there was another large tray of crab rangoons spaced out, not even full. And a full tray of Mac salad. As for the meat, they all came in 1/2 trays. Half katsu, half teriyaki chicken, half kalbi, and half Kalua pork (dry). The chicken and pork were on a bed of cooked cabbage. They gave tons of sauce, like 4 soup bowls of katsu and teriyaki sauce. I mean are we supposed to be drinking the sauce? There was not enough meat for what they gave. I went to another restaurant for another party just yesterday and picked up a large tray of delicious chicken teriyaki filled to the very top, a bit above the top even for only $85. Ono just ripped him off and I feel bad because I was the one who recommended Ono.

Island White Fish w/ steamed veggies, macaroni salad and steamed rice - $10.79

If you've got Hawaiian cuisine on the mind, this spot is a sure go-to for a meal that'll sure fill you up real good! This chain has dozens of locations in the western U.S., and this is one of the two locations in the Heart of the Bay aka Hayward! Located in the Skywest Commons shopping center, anchored by Target - this place is one of a kind, as it's the only Hawaiian BBQ joint in the neighborhood, with ample parking & right off the 880 corridor via the West A Street exit! It's a casual counter-order spot for Hawaiian dishes, including kalua pork (slow-roasted pork served shredded over steamed cabbage), grilled Spam and my personal favorite, the Island White Fish (Japanese panko breaded white fish). There are also pan-Asian dishes like teriyaki chicken, chicken katsu, grilled spam musubi, and crab rangoons. The interior design incorporates an inviting yet industrial chic feel inspired by Hawaii's rustic elements including reclaimed wood walls, rope lighting, aqua tiles and tropical planters. Very casual, yet home-y when you choose to dine in at the restaurant - however, make sure that you'll clean up after yourselves & take your trays & trash to the proper receptacles! It's always a clean establishment to the many times I've gone here, thanks to their team of well-mannered & courteous employees! Hawaii is a melting pot of ethnic cultures and nowhere is this influence more profound than in its cuisine: a fusion of Hawaiian, Japanese, Korean, Chinese and American dishes. By dining at Ono Hawaiian BBQ, you could truly feel as if you've been to the tropical islands as you divulge in some delicious selections of "Plate Lunches" and other Hawaiian- inspired food. Highly recommended if you're on the go, and/or nearby & wanting a quick fix for a taste of aloha!

Service was okay! Employees were friendly and they got my order right. That's pretty much it.

If I'm wanting to eat kalbi I go here and sometimes they sent discounted coupons/deals to print & use here. Price is pricey now.

Seating is available inside, no seating available outdoors. The store is very clean. And you make your payment at the register. The food -- from the mixed plates to spam musubi, all very delicious. My favorites are the mixed bbq plate; seafood combo plate, spam musubi and fish musubi. Delicious, flavorful and fulfilling! Portions are generous; huge portions! Hawaiian Drive Inn -- a must try. You have to go into the super small parking lot just after Snappy's cafe. Once parked, in the corner of the parking lot there's a set of doors and a circle on the wall that says hey boo coconuts for you. Then you know you got the right spot. I don't know their hours, check their instagram. I walked in, thought I was lost until I recognized the young lady taking orders. I got a pound of shoyu poke. I kept smelling the amazing chicken and noodles! I made him do a special order since I didn't preorder. He was super gracious and accommodated me. I told him it was his own fault for telling me to come through. The noodles were delicious, lots of veggies and the char siu was meaty, not greasy. The wings had a great garlic and soy flavor to it. The shoyu poke was perfect, it didn't feel like it was doused or overpowered by sauce on the ahi tuna that he used. Most definitely on my rotation since I'm always in the neighborhood.

It's…read moreorganized by the members of this year's graduating class of recruits with advice from members of last year's graduating class. Funding is provided by our Association. Everything from finding a facility to host us, ordering the menu, decorations and entertainment, set-up and clean-up is dependent on the members working together and is part of a surprise team building exercise. The menu this year was food from Ono Hawaiian BBQ in Castro Valley. They ordered a "Standard Menu" designed to feed 95-100 people. It consisted of four entrees, two salads, rice and 100 Crab Rangoon. Our entrees were Hawaiian BBQ Chicken, Hawaiian BBQ Beef, Chicken Katsu and Kalua Pork with Cabbage. There was more than enough food for our group and plenty of leftovers to be taken home. I've made plenty of BBQ Chicken, Kalbi Ribs, Pork Tonkatsu and Kalua Style Pig with Cabbage in my time. We've also eaten at numerous "Hawaiian" quick service restaurants including in Hawaii. Is Ono's food authentic? For us mainlanders, reasonably yes. Is it the best Island Grindz ever? No, I wouldn't say that. But it certainly is good enough and hits the spot! Everyone at the Holiday Party enjoyed the food so much that I placed an order for two meals serving 10-12 each for a family event on Sunday. Considering that there were only 9 of us eating, that was a ton of food but we're all huge fans of variety and leftovers. The food was ready on time and three of the staff members helped box it up for us. Good food and good service. As soon as we got to our van, we removed the lids from the Chicken Katsu and Crab Rangoon in an effort to keep them from steaming the crunchy exteriors soft. The one failure were the sauces. There were six round containers of sauce. They need to use a different container to keep the sauce in the containers. One of the lids came off in transit and all the sauce spilled, making a mess inside the plastic bag. Next time I'll know to unstack them so that doesn't happen again, but a tighter fitting lid would have prevented the spillage. We were given plenty of plasticware, napkins and plates, another major plus.

This time we ordered the island white fish aloha plate and was good. Food has been consistent when we come. However the girl at the front started as super unprofessional and rude. She had dark hair, and their were two other girls, one with lighter curly hair and one that I think had braces and skin tone was a little lighter. Just describing so maybe management can address this with the employee who refused to give her name. We had asked to use the bathroom, and they first said it's only for customers and we told them we did order. After that, it just escalated. The girl ended up yelling, and she even called my mom a "puta" and we called her out on that. She then proceeded to speak in spanish with 3-4 guys that were cooking, probably about us. We waited for our order and I asked for the manager and this girl kept saying he's coming. Then, one of the guys that I had seen thst was cooking came and said he was the manager and his name was Mattias Mendoza. I asked for the girl's name but she refused and kept yelling. She also turned around her badge so we could not see her name. Honestly if she didn't do anything, why was she hiding her badge??! We could see the other employees were scared of her, and she just kept yelling and saying we were the ones that cursed at her but every employee heard her say it to us, including some other customers that were standing there. We have also reported this to corporate, but we're unsure if anything will be done. She was absolutely horrible with us, picking fights and cussing out customers for nothing.
