I'd give these guys a 4 for cleanliness, the vibe while sitting and eating, the rice cabbage and broccoli but the day after coagulated teriyaki sauce scared me and the chicken seems a bit chewey and less like chicken hence the 3 instead. They give you a lot of food, like two days worth, but I don't think I'll be back. There's an OG Hawaiian grill in Dublin that I'd rather drive to. The service was great at this spot though. Was back in Alameda again the other day around lunchtime and decided to give this place another try since their staff are always helpful and accommodating. Glad I did. Service was great like last time. They keep this place clean too (wiping down the tables after diners leave, and keeping condiment and drinks station stocked and clean). Today I ordered the 2 piece Musubi (about $7) which comes with protein choice of spam, bbq chicken, or bbq beef. Asked if I could mix the flavors and the counter service representative kindly obliged. Asked for 1 spam and 1 bbq beef. I also ordered the BBQ combo plate which comes with 1 slice of kalbi beef ribs, bbq beef strips, and bbq chicken - atop steamed cabbage and broccoli, with 2 scoops of rice and 1 scoop of macaroni salad for $16.99. Since I am not a fan of cold mac salad anywhere I go, I opted for all scoops of rice this time. Flavors were good, and better this time for the bbq beef strips - they weren't dry or over seasoned. I really liked both the spam and bbq beef musubi too and would get them again. Good ratio of protein and rice and very easy to eat by hand, on the go. After 10 days on Oahu I was excited to swing by the Ono Hawaiian BBQ for at least an echo of the amazing traditional foods we've been eating. The food was disappointing: corporate ingredients prepared in a predictable corporate way, with no real flavor profile of anything from the islands. The service was pretty lackluster; there was plenty of staff but nobody seemed to want to be there. I'm guessing it was shame at being told to push such marginal product. This was my first time eating at an Ono's and I was glad I tried it. We went on a weekday lunch and even at noon it wasn't too busy, but it took maybe 15 minutes to get our food. I ordered the teriyaki chicken lunch plate that came with rice and mac salad. Mac salad was yummy, light, not heavy. The rice was nice and fluffy and moist. The teriyaki chicken was delicious and tender, very flavorful. The portion was huge! I was so full and had enough leftover chicken for a second meal. I also got the crab rangoon, which was good except that the fried part was a bit hard to chew at where it held the filling so was a tad disappointing (and why I docked off a star). But the very outside of the fried part (not touching any filling) though, was nice and crispy. Even my friend said the food was great including the rice (she got the kalbi short ribs with teriyaki chicken) and suggested we come again. I tried a piece of her kalbi short ribs and it was good but I like the real-deal Korean style kalbi so I was glad I didn't order that, as kalbi is my favorite. As far as Hawaiian BBQ goes, this chain is one of our favorites, so it was a bit disappointing on the quality of food at this location. I ordered my usual - their Grilled Chicken Breast (Lemon Pepper) plate, while my bf ordered their Hawaiian BBQ Mix plate. Rose was helpful with ensuring my order would be processed since I placed it 24 hr ahead instead of their 48 hour notice. I love Hawaiian BBQ, and Ono is my favorite among the franchises. Their mac salad is better than L&L BBQ. If you love mac salad, I highly recommend trying theirs. My favorite thing to order here is their Island Spiced Fish. Unfortunately, they do not carry this anymore. They tested it out last year but did not get many people to order. The dish came with three huge chunks of white fish. The spiced fish has a nice kick, and it was so flavorful. Below the fish was steamed cabbage and came with rice and mac salad. I went to Ono Hawaiian BBQ at Alameda Landing Shopping Center to get takeout for lunch. I don't come here very often, but it seems to be better than other Hawaiian BBQ places nearby. Got here right after they opened at 11am, food was fresh and service was prompt. BTW, that's the best time to get lunch, before the lunch rush. The restaurant will have their best staff on duty, and everything is fully stocked. Foods are prepped and ready to serve. I ordered the Hawaiian BBQ Mix plate combo. Beef, Chicken, and Short Ribs w/ 2 scoops of rice and macaroni salad. Oh, and there's some green veggies buried under all that meat. So, yeah it's a balanced meal. Was it good? Yes, it was good and fresh. Was it authentic? I don't know. The best Hawaiian Short Ribs I had outside of Hawaii was at a Las Vegas Casino Hotel that serves Hawaiian tourists. All I know is Hawaiian BBQ seems to look better in a takeout tray. It seems to taste better when eaten outside under a warm sun. My parents and I came here after shopping at target. Atmosphere: It was clean. There was a good amount of seating. Service: Nice staff. Quick transaction. We received our food pretty fast. Food: We got the Aloha Plate with teriyaki chicken and Island white fish. This came with rice and salad. The salad was good but it needed a bit more salad dressing. The fish was fried perfectly. The meat was tender and the crust was crispy. I asked for the tartar sauce since I didn't see it with my order. I really like their tartar sauce. I'll be the first to admit that I'm not really a huge fan of ordering food through delivery. But with cray cray COVID on the scene, our options are pretty limited at this point. Wowza! Nice, big portions here with a good protein to salad ratio. I ordered the seafood bbq mix and it did NOT disappoint! Loved, loved, looooved those fried shrimps! They used butterfly shrimp here and they were nice and plump with just the right amount of crispness. The bbq chicken was moist and well seasoned. Also really enjoyed their bbq sauce. I'm not a huge fan of potato salad and if I get it in a Hawaiian bbq combo box, I normally don't even touch it. But after trying theirs, I actually liked it and ate the entire thing. A real rarity for yours truly. The fresh salad was good too and I especially loved the salad dressing that they used. The white fish was decent, but I didn't care for the deep fried coating. It had an unusually sweet taste that just didn't seem to compliment it at all. Didn't try the other dishes but both of my employees raved about them. The bbq mix looked amazing and had me craving for beef and short ribs after I smelled them in the box. I was also really impressed with how reasonable their prices were, even on the Doordash app. Doordash always inflates the prices so that they can make a profit (another reason why I don't really like to use them too often for delivery). EPIC TRAIN WRECK!!! And i'm not a complainer but after 6 years of being a loyal customer i'm never coming back. I asked for a side of fried eggs and was told that they don't do a side of eggs and was forced to order... "Fried eggs and spam" as a meal. The cashier was young, new and in all fairness not at fault. The female manager who could have overridden the issue said "You have to complain to Ono's big boss, they stupid, I don't know why they do this". Shrimp tasted undercooked, spam was over cooked, the eggs were cooked to the point of them being rubber and i'm guessing I got a crappy meal because I asked for something they didn't want to do.
