The best customer service you can get at a nursery. They have all the rare tropical fruit plants you can look for: cherimoyas, atemoyas, Longans, wax apples, mangoes, lychees, sumo mandarins, and kumquats. They offer the fruit to taste. We got to try different type of cherimoyas. I got a wax apple tree 4 years ago and it is the sweetest wax apple I have ever eaten in my life. I tried going to another nursery in Vista (Cay Vuong Ut Ngo) and that lady was rude and doesn't give you her time of day.

Ong Nursery has very tropical and hard to find plants- I highly recommend this place if you are looking for a particular fruit tree. They are a family owned operation and are very knowledgeable on how to take care of each plant (ex: weather conditions best suited for the plants, how to plant into ground, which soil/fertilizer to use, etc). The owner is pretty straight to the point. The prices are pretty fair for the size of the trees- time is money also so you are paying for more mature plants that will provide you fruit sooner. My husband and I bought a kaffir lime tree but we will be back to buy more fruit trees in the future after our backyard is finalized.

I rarely review anything, but I couldn't help but leave a 5-star for Ong Nursery. I had been researching Passionfruit Vines for weeks and looking at all the different places to purchase them. I nearly ordered one from Home Depot when I stumbled upon Ong Nursery's site. I'm so happy I did. I purchased an extremely healthy passionfruit vine that stood 5-feet tall. Within two days we had beautiful flowers and the beginning of new fruit growth. She was so helpful and kind about wrapping up the vine and telling us best growing practices. I will always go back for any plants in the future.

The workers were very welcoming and helpful. There were many exotic fruit trees and plants. I had a great time exploring the nursery. My mom has been wanting a longan and wax apple tree for a long time, so I FaceTime my her and the worker explained and helped us find the tree that was best for our area. I was able to taste some of the fruits that were grown on the tree. It was definitely a great experience and I will definitely come back.

This nursery is truly a hidden gem for exotic fruit trees. The owner is incredibly knowledgeable about fruit trees and botany in general. His family is very friendly and a young girl helped us pick out a mango tree. They have so many varieties of mangos! So it's nice to know a bit about the different types they have so you have an idea which to buy before you go. I've included a few pictures of the different types in my review. The young girl too knew a lot about the different types of trees and fruits from her father. Prices may be a bit higher, but you know what you are getting and they will take the time to go over everything from planting to long term care for your purchase. check or Venmo accepted.

Family run business. They are passionate about tropical fruits. We bought a golden nugget mandarin, a plumeria, and a passion fruit. Can't wait to go back and buy a Chico, a sinueguelas, and an atemoya tree!

This picture shows our dying flowers in the first 2 years because we did not know at that time the flowers would need cross pollination.

This review is pretty long, so please bear with me! My husband and I moved to San Diego almost six years ago. A year later, we spent around $5,000 on many mature Asian fruit trees from Ong Nursery, one of them was a white dragon fruit tree. Since we had purchased mature trees, they all started producing flowers in the 2nd year. However, even though our dragon fruit tree got a lot of flowers, they all turned yellow and dropped - no fruit whatsoever. My husband, who has a master's degree in agriculture, tried everything he could including hand pollination but still no luck! When consulted with the owners, the wife said we just needed to water more. Well, we did but still no luck as the same thing happened the following year. Needless to say how frustrated we were! Luckily, we found an article on the internet explaining that some varieties of dragon fruit need cross pollination. We happened to have a red dragon tree (a gift from a friend and this variety is self-pollinating) that produced flowers at the same time, so my husband used its pollen to pollinate the white dragon's flowers. Voila! We started having beautiful fruits, finally! Please see pictures Before (dying flowers) & After (beautiful fruits). Fast forward to this year: unfortunately, our red tree produced flowers in early June, so by the time our white tree's flowers came out in July, we did not have any pollen from the red tree to do the cross pollination. We thought we could ask Mr. Ong to give us some pollen (or one flower would be more than enough) from his many trees because, after all, we spent a fortune at his nursery. Imagine our shock and hurt when he refused, despite repeated emails from us begging him. He did not think the tree he sold us needs cross pollination even though we sent him the pictures to prove him wrong! Thanks to him, we don't have any fruit this year to enjoy! What a selfish and heartless owner! We have pretty much the same problem with the lychee tree, but that'll be another review later.

We were met by Teri Flores, the owner, who is as sweet and helpful as can be. She gave us a tour of the place and offered us samples of the fruits. The place is clean and well organized, with a great selection of citrus, cherimoyas, mangoes. We purchased 4 trees and had them deliver and plant for us. The workers arrived on time and were very professional. They did a great job planting our trees and cleaned everything up when they were done. Excellent service and products! I would highly recommend.

We called while we were on our way and the lady that owns the place said her son could let us in and show us around. He was very friendly. For anyone that loves fruit, fruit trees and/or tropical fruit - the place is super cool and they have a good variety of fruit trees to choose from. I noticed that there were a lot of tiny seedlings of various kinds that looked to be started from seed. They had one hawaiian/strawberry papaya tree left and it was pretty big. I was so excited. I inquired about it and the son called his mom to find out the price and confirm that it was a strawberry papaya since it was the last one of that variety. We spent $140 on our new big papaya tree with flowers that smelled heavenly. I babied it, watered regularly, fed accordingly. It flourished and put on a lot of new growth but I noticed a few weeks later that every flower it put out never formed fruit. I researched about papaya flowers and realized that we were sold a male papaya tree. It has only male flowers and will Never bear fruit...I felt and still feel scammed. I found out that when you grow papaya plants from seed - you will only find out if it's female, male or hermaphrodite (both male & female) by its flowers so you have to wait until it's mature enough to flower. With these people being quite knowledgeable about fruit trees and having hundreds - maybe even a thousand fruit trees on their property- I would think they knew it was a male tree. Reputable nurseries sell hermaphroditic varieties so that you don't need separate plants to pollinate and produce fruit. I think at the very least they should have informed us that it was a male tree that doesn't fruit. So we paid $140 for a male papaya tree that will never bear fruit. My husband paid the son directly by venmo. After we found out it was a male tree, my husband contacted the son to explain what happened and asked if we could bring the tree back for a refund and we never got a response. Was so shocked that a small family business would do this especially when he was so friendly in person. I saw so many trees with fruit so I'm not saying that I think they've done this before - but it happened to us and even if it's a one time occurrence...it really sucks. It's been about a year and 8 months since - I waited so long to leave a review because I was hoping her son would eventually contact us back. After that I was upset and didn't want to think about it much. But I am still so disappointed to have wasted our money like this on a tree that will never bear fruit.

There's so much to see, so bring a hat, sunglasses, sunscreen, and comfy shoes since the ground can be uneven. You'll encounter steps, slopes, and some dirt paths. What doesn't this place have? There's an onsite bar and grill that's dog‑friendly, has live music, and serves brunch on weekends. There's also a cute boutique flower/gift shop with curated items perfect for any plant lover. They offer free local classes to help educate the community -- I've taken the shrub class, but they have tons of gardening‑related workshops. They have chickens, birds, turtles, and more.
