We were told to go to a branch in order to place a stop payment and have it reissued, once there the teller asked us to wait for a personal banker, we sat for about 20 minutes, no one acknowledged us, not a simple "we'll be right with you", no eye contact. When someone eventually came to us she told us we had to go online to make an appointment. So run around from online banking, to the branch only be told to go home and jump back online. Is it really so hard to find good people than care about others? If this how the people there would like to be treated? Granted we walked in at 4:30pm but people seemed unwilling to help, perhaps they should close at 4pm. Compassion and genuine care for customers is what keeps a human ahead of automation. I see why retail banking is on the decline and closures accelerated. Any physical locations should be repurposed to be advice centers and solutions for complex needs to which this branch does not provide. There is no value here.

For years, I've been logging into my home screen and it never showed a balance due. I also never got a billing for the annual fees. But this morning, when I clicked on my HELOC account button, it showed a balance due of $225. I phoned their customer service line and was told that I'm charged $75 per year to keep the account open. They never sent a billing for that annual fee or I would have closed it earlier. To close the account, I will now have to pay $225 plus around $175 in fees. I wonder how many elderly people forget about their Fremont Bank HELOCs, only to discover they owe hundreds, if not thousands to Fremont Bank when they, or their heirs, go to sell their homes? Update at 5:58PM, same day I posted, I got a call from Valerie and she waived the $225. I'm impressed with how responsive they were. Sure, I have to pay the recording fees, etc. to record the reconveyance, but that's just a pass through expense so I'm fine with that. Thank you Fremont Bank!!

When I come into the Credit Union the Bankers know me by name. The questions they ask make me feel like this is my community and I belong. I always recommend young people to this Credit Union- Hayward. Lately as I was about to retire, I had some queries about my pension and my Some other monies, so I came in and met a banker, Kiruthika, who guided me and keep me aware of everything that can be made possible. I was informed that either a driver's license and ID or a passport would be acceptable. Later, the representative stated that a driver's license and ID were sufficient, and then changed the information by saying the account could not be opened because both documents have the same identification number, which is completely normal and expected. Instead of offering a simple solution--such as requesting the passport to properly complete the process--the representative left the matter unresolved and a letter was sent stating that they were unable to identify him, despite the fact that my son has a Social Security number, state ID, driver's license, and passport. This situation reflects a lack of consistency, professionalism, and willingness to properly assist the customer.

Regardless, it's BS and I'm taking my business elsewhere. There's plenty of alternative banks and CU's that don't have a daily minimum nearly that high. And it's not like I was earning any interest at Fremont Bank. See ya.
