PHYSICAL APPEARANCE-BASED DISCRIMINATION BY ONE DAY CLEANERS ON DOWNEY AVENUE!!! OWNER DEMANDS THAT I PAY MY DRY CLEANING BILL UPFRONT WITH THE LIE THAT I HAD NEVER BEEN THEIR CUSTOMER BEFORE!!! I WAS a customer. But Never Again. I went there today to have 1 dry cleaning (slacks) and 2 alterations done. The man behind the counter, whose English was very difficult to understand, took measurements and completed the necessary tasks. His dishonesty was shown when at first he said that my alterations would be $16 each, five minutes later he said it would be $24 each. For 2 cuff shortenings and 1 dry cleaning of slacks he tried to charge me over $66!!! I Was willing to pay for the convenience of the location. But he then showed his physical appearance-based Prejudice and Racism: He demanded that I pay for the alterations and dry cleaning UP FRONT which is simply not done: I am old but I am neither dumb nor inexperienced: I've had alterations done at high-end salons from Beverly Hills to Mr. Lim of Wilshire Boulevard fame and not once have I ever been asked to pay upfront. I told him, "No place charges upfront, what is this?" He said, "It veecuz you fust tigh!" Which he knew was an Outright Lie and it shows how Dishonest and Racist he is, for I had just given him my telephone number so he could look up my account, which he did. He knew my first name because he said it out loud after he located my account in his system--so He Knew I'd been there before. So I'm never going back and I encourage others not to patronize One Day Cleaners on Downey Avenue just above Firestone Boulevard... The guy discriminates against people whose skin is darker than his, And He is an Immigrant himself with Largely Incomprehensible English skills. And insultingly, he thinks his customers are stupid and to be taken advantage of because they are dark: he's trying to capitalize on the prejudicial climate of the nation. read more

I came here to have my husband's 501 jeans cleaned and pressed, but unfortunately I couldn't even get service. When I walked in, there was no one at the front desk, so I waited about 5 minutes. After that, I started ringing the bell at the front and waited another 10 minutes. Since no one came out, I decided to call the store thinking maybe the employee/owner was outside or busy somewhere. The phone was ringing inside the store, and the man who was there hung up my call and then messaged me asking what I needed. At that point, I had already been waiting around 15 minutes just trying to get someone's attention. I'm 6 months pregnant, and those 501 jeans are heavy for me to carry around, so I decided to leave rather than continue waiting. I understand that people can get busy, but simply ignoring a customer who is standing at the front and then hanging up their call is not good customer service. read more

Honestly one of the worst cleaners I've been to. I only came here because it was closest to home. I came here and dropped off my clothes got a recipe of 97$ I came back to pick up and I was being changed 104.70$ I asked about the difference and owner laughed and said no it's 104. So I paid then got charged for 1,104.70. I got a fraud alert txt message then confronted the owner why is he charging me 1,104.70 and he panicked and laughed it off he said sorry it was an accident. Should've just ran off with my clothes. Be careful when coming to this cleaners. read more

Asian man is so rude denied me service. I walked in asking if he does dress alterations and he said yes let me see. I showed him that the dress is too long and he said do you live in Downey and I said yes but why does that matter then he pushed the dress back to me and said No and I said no what I don't understand. I then asked you want me to take my business elsewhere and he replied yes sorry bye. read more

Manager is rude and laughed in my face. I should of trusted the other reviews with horrible service I Will not be coming again

Been using this place for years. Never been disappointed and the owner is an amazing caring individual. We are in the midst of this Corona virus and him and his wife are hand knitting free masks for anyone that needs it. A perfect example of how sweet this dude is. Help a mom and pop shop out and use him for your dry cleaning! read more

One Day Cleaners - Free hand made masks during the Corona Virus lock down. - Dry Cleaning Near Me - Downey, California

Another awesome family owned, local business here in Downey. They are very professional, always polite and the garments are ready on the day they tell you as promised. They are located in the heart of Downtown Downey, walking distance from the Embassy suites for those visiting from out of town and offer minor tailoring services. They not only do a great job on clothes, but they are also awesome at cleaning comforters, bedspreads and purses. They have put up protective barriers, wear and require masks and ALWAYS wipe the off the customer's payment cards before handing back because of Covid. (When the pandemic first started, they were handing out hand made masks, free to their customers.) #SupportLocalFamilyBusinesses read more

I've been coming here for over 8 years. I moved away from Downey and stopped going for a year or so. During that time, I tried several other cleaners that were closed to me and was not happy with the quality I received. One cleaner in particular wouldn't take care of my buttons and ruined at least one button on almost every shirt I brought it. Hence, I returned to Mr. Hong and his wife. There's been one, maybe two occurrences where he overcharged me however, he told me the next time I came. If he wouldn't have told me I never would have noticed. I highly appreciate the couple who run this business for their honesty, the quality they provide and for the friendly greetings I always receive. :) read more

So been coming here for a few years and they have dry cleaned my stuff on time and no problems. The problem is these last few times I told them to dry clean and press some pants and all they did was dry clean them. Took them back and they did the same. Don't know why they wouldn't press my pants and I clearly told them to. This place is a little out of my way and I would make the trip down there but now I'm going to have to go somewhere closer. I can't give them less then 4 stars since they are a good and local business but these past few times they have dropped the ball and I will have to start going else where. read more

This cleaner refused service in my opinion because my 4 year old daughter and myself were African American. I came in here to alter some Christmas PJs because we couldn't get my daughter's size. The guy started fitting her with the safety pins and then all of a sudden, he said we can't do it. Then like makes up a lie saying, the alterations were going to be "too big" to do. That is the WHOLE purpose of an alteration shop!! I decided after that lie that we would leave and never come back! Do not support this racist cleaners!!!! It's sad to see racism still exists and my daughter had to witness this!!!! read more

Kristy(sp), the lady owner who does alterations, she understood everything I needed, had good suggestions based on what I needed, was no nonsense and got straight to making sure my stretch-ponte fabric dance dress was hemmed, taken in, and skirt lined in a short notice with a small window in time for my wedding. I think the dress was even courtesy-steamed when it got back to me. I had to make sure my communication was clear and to the point and I followed up a few times to make sudden changes. There was alot of rain, a full-day power outage and a lot of orders over the holiday but this place made it happen and the job was done well! Prices were reasonable and I was a happy customer. Thanks so much. read more

Took in a couple of dresses and a couple of shirts. I walked in and was greeted by a lady. She was quick and before I knew I had my ticket in hand to pick up my items in a few days. Came back to pick up my clothing and again was greeted by the same lady. She was again friendly and I had my items in hand in less than 5 minutes. My items were very clean and wrinkle free! read more

I absolutely love this family owned dry cleaners. I have been coming here for about 2 years and I refuse to go anywhere else. I recently moved to Orange County and I continue to bring my clothing here. I own a large amount of business clothing and many of my items can not be machine washed. My clothing is always in perfect condition when I pick them up. I brought a dress in that had a small stain- not only was the stain removed but they fixed a snapped button that I had! This team is kind, thoughtful, sincere, and so hard working. I love love love that they are still around. Truly a local Downey gem. read more

I come here at least once a week. It has been my dry cleaners for years now. I love it. The owners and employees are really friendly and they do a great job. I especially like that the owner bows to me every time I hand him my credit card to pay. It makes me feel like a big shot... read more

Tried others in the area when I moved to Downey... then I tried One Day Cleaners... love them. Great work , on time as promised. I have also taken cloths for alterations and they do exactly what I want. Thank you read more

Despite the name being "one day cleaners" they do not offer same day service. Pick up for dry cleaning is always 4 days from when you bring your items in. Very disappointing. read more

Brought in five pairs of slacks to be hemmed. Proprietor was quick to acknowledge me and write my order. Got a reasonable quote and was able to pick up my slacks within two days. Overall my impression was that I was dealing with a competent businessman and clothing alterations and related services expert. Recommend! read more

Service is good up until something goes wrong. That's where the customer service goes down the drain. When I was picking my shirts, one of them had a small hole. I let the lady know and she smiled and laughed as if I had said something funny. I understand English isn't her first language but she knew I wasn't joking. Eventually, she asked the person who steamed the shirt (her husband) about the whole and, of course, he said it was already there... Disappointed, I ended up leaving after 15 minutes of them completely denying the hole. It was upsetting since lady kept laughing every time I said, there wasn't a hole there. Great job on taking it serious. read more

The owners are super nice people and put their customers' needs first. They pay close attention to special requests and are wonderful about fulfilling them. The pricing is decent, especially for being in the downtown area. They did a great job with my boyfriend's suits and shirts. They are our new, regular cleaners! Also, to the person that has criticized the woman about laughing at the hole in his shirt, I don't think you're taking the language barrier into enough consideration. She is always smiling and pleasant, and probably didn't understand what you were saying and didn't know how to deal with someone upset about something they don't believe they did. Have some empathy for different cultures and customs. read more

I've been coming here since I moved out of Downey (years ago). You cannot beat their prices and service! Not to mention your stuff won't take long to be ready. Happy and loyal customer! read more

I've been going to this cleaners for about a year now, since moving to Downey. What I immediately noticed is that the dry cleaning bill was much much higher than other cleaners. This is because of the location, which is in the downtown area. For example, a bill that is normally $60 is maybe $90 here. Having said that, the quality is noticeably better. No double creases, no funny smell, just a step above. Good place to go to if you're OK with the higher price. read more

Your usual dry cleaners. Service is good. Really convenient and easy to find. Prices seem fair compared to other cleaners.

They do a pretty good job with dry cleaning; but prices are a little higher than other dry cleaners. Also, I'm confused by the name "One Day". They can never seem to commit to returning my items anywhere under 3 days. read more

This place was absolutely the best. I had the worse wardrobe malfunction on a very important day. They fixed my dress in less than an hour and I didn't miss anything important. The price for such an emergency was great.. they did not take advantage. I am truly impressed with their work I went back to get my dress dry cleaned. read more
