I was still fairly new to Cardiff at the time, and a little shy, so I sat quietly and hoped that perhaps they had sunk to the bottom and I'd find them as I started drinking. Sadly, however, no marshmallows were to be found, and then it was too late to do anything about it. This aside, Waterloo Gardens Teahouse is a lovely little shop, in the quiet area of Penylan with a nice selection of drinks and cakes, and comfy sofas. The coffee is fair-trade, there is a wide variety of tea, and they change the art on the walls regularly, exhibiting a different artist each month, which is a nice touch. Just make sure they give you the marshmallows you're paying for.

This is one of those places (I hope no one's coming to come along and tell me that it's shut now because I really want to visit it again). Let me see if I can remember to what it was like... Tasty and delicious food to fill up your stomachs and addictive cravings. I've had a creamy, bubbly milkshake and free, fresh tap water before. They do wonderful toasty sandwiches and Panini's. They also do lovely chocolate cakes; Ice Cream, cheesecakes and carrot cakes. Often under £10's each. It can get very busy sometimes, but they are pretty quick with their waitressing skills. It is a cosy cafe, perfect for lunch or afternoon tea. The staff are friendly enough and quick to give you what you wish. I love going there, as it is a place full of tranquillity atmosphere suitable for all adults and maybe for some children. It is not really a wheel chair, or a baby pushchair accessible place.

They serve different cakes through the week, which helps you find something different to taste with your drink when you go back there. But the best reason to visit the place is the food: Stuart and Dorothy are working hard to give you a delicious meal for a very reasonnable price. With dishes inspired from traditional french meals and a twist of welsh cooking, this is a very good place to eat lunch. Just be sure to check their Facebook page or their website to know what the day specials are - coq au vin, beef bourguinon, pâté en croute, tartiflette - all homemade! They also offer a special "Sunday lunch" which is halfway between the traditionnal Sunday roast and the french pot-au-feu. There's plenty to eat and it's really good food. The place is quite small but the music (french, of course!) and the decor, are really nice - I was really impressed by the chandeliers! If you go to Cardiff and visit the Albany Road area, this place is definitely worth a try.

Just being open around 4 months, the place was recommended to me by my Cardiff friends, and was an ideal place for our large group to meet on a Saturday afternoon. The shop located on a corner with massive windows providing a good place to people watch and enjoy views outside. It is very minimalistic yet very spacious with a large array of vintage furniture which gives it an "established" feel despite being a young coffee shop. I was very impressed with that Little Man are very proud to feature at least two roasters at all times. This day I had a soy latte using coaltown espresso blend and a v60 using the wonderful James Gourmet Coffee from the very knowledgeable staff. I saw Aeropress, Chemex and V60 on offer.. I didn't get a chance to peak at the cakes or if they had a menu but I was very curious to see how they can use this huge space for events in future. Such a great Coffee shop with much potential!

I went straight for their own cold brew coffee (that comes in a lovely little bottle) which was excellent, nice and mellow, leaving me refreshed and suitably caffeinated. I'd expect the hot drinks match the quality. I wish I'd had a little more time to be able to settle in or go back, seems a good place to set up for a few hours, and when I left I wished I could take it back home with me to do just that! I suspect that if I had more of a chance to try everything they have this would get 5 stars.

Despite my infrequent custom the café seems to be doing well. (It just shows us how insignificant we all are, eh?!). I guess that its success is cemented by the fact that its been around for a few years and seems to have a local crowd of devotees that regularly frequent it. They serve freshly made tortilla wraps, sandwiches and baps, making them a firm favourite with the local 9 to 5 brigade.

Things didn't look too hopeful when we arrived to see a queue of people from the counter right out through the cafe gates. However, we found a seat and I joined the queue. 40 minutes later, I had finally reached the counter. We were originally going to have a panini each. However, when somebody came up to the counter to ask whether they had been forgotten (they had obviously ordered food some time ago, and were still waiting), we decided not to. I ordered a coffee and a hot chocolate. The coffee was nice, but the hot chocolate was appalling. It was obvious that the cafe were using the cheapest cocoa powder they could get their hands on, and just adding hot water (not even any milk!). It was so bad that my girlfriend had one mouthful, and decided to leave it - £1.95 down the drain. Overall we were very disappointed with our visit. I appreciate that it was busy, but any half decent cafe should anticipate trade and ensure that there are adequate staff to cover it - this was blatantly not the case on this occasion and I feel sorry for the 3 staff (1 serving and doing drinks, 1 cooking, 1 waitressing) who had to try to manage the woeful situation. Overall - could do better. Much better.
