Came here because of all the good reviews. But the food wasn't that great, and service was extremely slow.

Also, it is so conveniently located because it's in Cathays for the students and near town (ish) for people who work there.

Cardiff is very quickly becoming my favourite city to discover new coffee. With the very new Little…read moreMan Coffee co it is easy to see why. Just being open around 4 months, the place was recommended to me by my Cardiff friends, and was an ideal place for our large group to meet on a Saturday afternoon. The shop located on a corner with massive windows providing a good place to people watch and enjoy views outside. It is very minimalistic yet very spacious with a large array of vintage furniture which gives it an "established" feel despite being a young coffee shop. I was very impressed with that Little Man are very proud to feature at least two roasters at all times. This day I had a soy latte using coaltown espresso blend and a v60 using the wonderful James Gourmet Coffee from the very knowledgeable staff. I saw Aeropress, Chemex and V60 on offer.. I didn't get a chance to peak at the cakes or if they had a menu but I was very curious to see how they can use this huge space for events in future. Such a great Coffee shop with much potential!

I went straight for their own cold brew coffee (that comes in a lovely little bottle) which was excellent, nice and mellow, leaving me refreshed and suitably caffeinated. I'd expect the hot drinks match the quality. I wish I'd had a little more time to be able to settle in or go back, seems a good place to set up for a few hours, and when I left I wished I could take it back home with me to do just that! I suspect that if I had more of a chance to try everything they have this would get 5 stars.

Secret Garden Café - Apricot ice cream from the cafe. Delicious afternoon treat during a walk in Bute Park.

Open…read moreseasonally and located within Bute Park you can only access the cafe on foot or non-motorized transportation. It's literally located within beautiful garden walls and the atmosphere is simply magical - lush green plants, brick walls, charming lights, wooden tables, and on the way in you'll pass through a massive wooden door with intricate carvings. The coffee, drinks, food and treats are all delicious and made with quality ingredients. I stopped by twice while visiting in town for a conference nearby at the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama and had to take my lunch to go, but could have easily spent hours in this cafe. It's a bit difficult to find if you're not familiar with Bute Park, but well worth the reward if you do visit this charming cafe.

The menu offers a good selection of paninis, sandwiches and hot food, as well as both hot and cold drinks. We arrived at the cafe at lunchtime on a sunny (but cold) February day - and this is where things started to go downhill. Things didn't look too hopeful when we arrived to see a queue of people from the counter right out through the cafe gates. However, we found a seat and I joined the queue. 40 minutes later, I had finally reached the counter. We were originally going to have a panini each. However, when somebody came up to the counter to ask whether they had been forgotten (they had obviously ordered food some time ago, and were still waiting), we decided not to. I ordered a coffee and a hot chocolate. The coffee was nice, but the hot chocolate was appalling. It was obvious that the cafe were using the cheapest cocoa powder they could get their hands on, and just adding hot water (not even any milk!). It was so bad that my girlfriend had one mouthful, and decided to leave it - £1.95 down the drain. Overall we were very disappointed with our visit. I appreciate that it was busy, but any half decent cafe should anticipate trade and ensure that there are adequate staff to cover it - this was blatantly not the case on this occasion and I feel sorry for the 3 staff (1 serving and doing drinks, 1 cooking, 1 waitressing) who had to try to manage the woeful situation. Overall - could do better. Much better.

And then you remember that place that you haven't been to in so long, that you really liked all the way back when. This is one of those places (I hope no one's coming to come along and tell me that it's shut now because I really want to visit it again). Let me see if I can remember to what it was like... Oh, yes, it was lovely. The staff were absolutely fantastic, really friendly and up for a little bit of banter. The atmosphere was great, nice and relaxed but not completely slobbish. Oh, I just hope it hasn't changed.

Tasty and delicious food to fill up your stomachs and addictive cravings. I've had a creamy, bubbly milkshake and free, fresh tap water before. They do wonderful toasty sandwiches and Panini's. They also do lovely chocolate cakes; Ice Cream, cheesecakes and carrot cakes. Often under £10's each. It can get very busy sometimes, but they are pretty quick with their waitressing skills. It is a cosy cafe, perfect for lunch or afternoon tea. The staff are friendly enough and quick to give you what you wish. I love going there, as it is a place full of tranquillity atmosphere suitable for all adults and maybe for some children. It is not really a wheel chair, or a baby pushchair accessible place.

When I was little, my mum used to bring me to Floyd's, (I think she knew one of the owners once…read moreupon a time) so I would sleep on the sofas whilst she drank G&T and chatted into the wee hours. As a grown up, this is one of my favourite spots in town, it's like a quiet little sanctuary on one of the busiest/worst streets in Cardiff. There's a really huge selection of booze but the drinks aren't really that amazing. My friend who is a superstar bartender had little things to gripe about. They didn't give him enough gin, his tonic was lukewarm and there were spelling mistakes on the boards above the bar. None of that really matters though because the environment is so wonderful and almost indescribably relaxed. The best seat in the house is the one next to the window because you can look out on to St Mary Street at 1am and see the absolute horror show that is Cardiff on a Friday/Saturday night. It's fairly plush inside and pretty small, being above Floyd Clothing on High Street. The first thing that struck me was the impressively stocked bar. They've got over 250 spirits on show here and a pretty large selection of European beers too. They also do cocktails but the prices scared me off. It isn't cheap to drink here that's for sure. What I like about Floyd's mainly is the secrecy and exclusivity of the place. It does get busy but then it is only very small. 50 people would pack the place out to be honest. I've normally gone up the stairs, taken one look at how busy the place is and left. When there is a bit of room though it's one of the best places in Cardiff. You get the impression that most people don't even know it exists. If you're looking for cheap drinks, loud music and dancing, you should probably avoid Floyd's. If you want to sit down, relax and chat or meet up before a night out, you definitely have to give it a try.
