Oh, tea rooms! I…read morethink that I have a little old lady hidden inside me, trying desperately to get out. That's partly because when I coughed today, it hurt my hip. But it's mainly because I can think of few greater pleasures than a cup of tea and a piece of cake. The cake here is just brilliant. There's something about eating cake in a church, surrounded by elderly people, being a little bit cold because - let's face it - churches are always a little bit cold. You can sit outside in these tea rooms, which I would have loved to do because the seats are right next to a little bit of greenery. The flowers are all slowly starting to come out and it smells divine. Unfortunately, though, it was raining today. Standard.

As much as it hurts me to say this, me and my lovely are pretty much an old fashioned couple. We…read moremoan about kids lacking respect, music not being what it used to be and how hard life was during the rations etc etc. The Boston tea party sounds like something we'd like to RSVP to. So whenever we are out, within half hour I look into my lovely's eyes and smile, she nods and spears in hands, we're off to hunt for tea. Being a day unlike today (My hair has been turned into an afro and I'm freezing.) We saw that St. Johns church had a tea room. It's an impressive setting inside the church, but since it was a rare warm(ish) day we sat outside. Tea and cakes are nice and cheap here, I didn't have any cake but the tea hit the spot! This is a place for your more mature visitor and is brilliantly relaxing.

Tea: Hot-water refills are complimentary. We tried some of the Japanese green teas - kukicha (£3.50) and matcha (£5). Both interesting choices, the matcha is probably a bit too adventurous for someone who is only used to their English breakfast! The kukicha was recommended as a milder introduction to Japanese green teas - it went down well with my companion who was new to these. Next time I plan to try the matcha latte. Atmosphere: Noise level is moderate, can be a little louder when it's busy but still quiet enough to hold a comfortable conversation at your table. On this occasion we were sat at a sofa and coffee table on the ground floor. There are a few locations near power outlets for those who want to bring a laptop. Service: Friendly, knowledgeable staff. Our waitress gave good menu explanations and recommendations - definitely developed our tea-taste buds. Don't come here if you're in a rush - food arrives slowly. Lasting impression: Good food with moderate pricing and an interesting range of teas. Casual place for a light meal and a long afternoon chat over a cuppa. If you want afternoon tea it is wise to book - they can get quite busy.

It was the pebbledash equivalent of finding an oasis in the dessert, a quaint but spacious tearoom offering a wide range of teas, coffees, ice-creams and lunches. As we sat there sipping our perfectly foamed lattes and having a chat with the owners we felt quite excited to have discovered this place that had remained unknown to us until we had stumbled upon it. The melodic, baritone voice of Johnny Cash made its way from the juke box into the corner and combined with the vintage decor gave us a sense of nostalgia. We decided to make a 'thing' of it and ordered some food, which arrived quickly and needless to say was a generous portion. I had noted that the kitchen appeared to be quite small and for two sizeable meals complete with a decorative garnish and all of the sides to come from it must have been quite a chore. I know I would have struggled. The steak was cooked to perfection, I'm not that well educated in steak, I think medium rare is my favorite, I don't really know. All I know is that this one was lovely and I did observe a couple (who had also ordered steaks, in fact the chap had TWO!) taking photos of their meals to send to their friends. When it comes to eating out I am quite a skinflint, it's more often a case of limited funds but if I had the choice of The Harvester or a fancy-dancy restaurant I would probably go with the former unless someone else was paying. Like I said, I'm not a pro when it comes to steaks but I tend to avoid ordering them because I find that they can be hit or miss depending on the chef's idea of what medium-rare is. I know that if I go to The Harvester I'm going to order the BBQ ribs before I even get hold of a menu because they're delicious every time. If I went to a restaurant where I'd need a small mortgage for a started then I'd be doubly disappointed if the meal wasn't up to standard. Anyway, back on track - In conclusion we found Memory Lane to be very enjoyable, the staff were lovely, the setting was lovely. Great food and inarguably good prices. The only issue that I could see (although it didn't affect me) was that they did not serve alcohol. The staff did point out that there is a shop directly opposite where you can buy drink to have with your meal. They did say that they are looking to start doing alcoholic drinks, so perhaps that's sorted now.

Just being open around 4 months, the place was recommended to me by my Cardiff friends, and was an ideal place for our large group to meet on a Saturday afternoon. The shop located on a corner with massive windows providing a good place to people watch and enjoy views outside. It is very minimalistic yet very spacious with a large array of vintage furniture which gives it an "established" feel despite being a young coffee shop. I was very impressed with that Little Man are very proud to feature at least two roasters at all times. This day I had a soy latte using coaltown espresso blend and a v60 using the wonderful James Gourmet Coffee from the very knowledgeable staff. I saw Aeropress, Chemex and V60 on offer.. I didn't get a chance to peak at the cakes or if they had a menu but I was very curious to see how they can use this huge space for events in future. Such a great Coffee shop with much potential!

I went straight for their own cold brew coffee (that comes in a lovely little bottle) which was excellent, nice and mellow, leaving me refreshed and suitably caffeinated. I'd expect the hot drinks match the quality. I wish I'd had a little more time to be able to settle in or go back, seems a good place to set up for a few hours, and when I left I wished I could take it back home with me to do just that! I suspect that if I had more of a chance to try everything they have this would get 5 stars.
