And that is Vania and David to a T. The first time I went in, my friend and I declared that we were "just window shopping" and we had no intention of buying anything. We had actually been in the store next door (which we wandered into after seeing their sign from Ashker's...spoiler alert where we had spent the afternoon lounging....but I digress....) Anyway, so we had no idea that Vania and David was there until David invited us in to check out the store. And I'm so glad he did. We had a blast wandering around, asking questions, checking out the leather goods and jewelry that Vania designs herself and much of which she makes in house. They've had a bunch of movie appearances so it was fun to see items from the store in the movie screenshots. I love people who put Buffalo on the map! Of course the window shoppers couldn't help themselves and we each bought something - my friend some beautiful citrine earrings and me a bracelet, which Vania customized for me while we chatted. Most recently I went in to buy birthday presents for two very special people. I told Vania what I was looking for and what my budget was and she was so sweet about helping me find the perfect gifts for both of my friends. And when my friends opened the gifts they were beside themselves in love. This is definitely not an inexpensive store. It's the kind of place that you go when you want something nice. If you want a chaka, go to the thrift store. If you want a piece of jewelry or leather that is also a piece of art, then check out Vania and David. And tell them that Kate the window shopper sent you!

The store is always clean and well-organized, and if you're just browsing and don't need help the staff will leave you alone to shop - no annoying, overly aggressive sales people. I love that they've added in Jeff's Guy Shop too, so my boyfriend is less annoyed with my shopping. It is a bit pricey though. It's also in a great location right downtown, so you can stop in on your way down to, or back from, the lake. I stop by Joelle's every time I visit my parents in Burlington in summer.

Don't come here looking for something in particular because you won't find it. If you come here just to browse though you will end up buying 80 things for like $38.00. They have everything you don't know that you need. A lamp shaped like a panda bear, a golden tracksuit, picture frames, a clock that blinks at you, a $1.00 hat that cost you $79.99 at J.Crew, and the aforementioned Fanny pack are what I got today but that barely scratches the surface. I know it sounds like I'm trying to be funny but I'm totally serious when I say this place is amazing.

For a moment, I thought this could be the new XS Cargo--a Canadian discount chain that closed down several years ago and I have longed for the return of. I was aware that many Amazon products that are returned get sold to liquidators, so I entered the store with expectations of pretty competitive pricing. What I found was a pretty broad collection of cheaper-quality products at, what seemed like retail or near-retail prices. In spite of signage assuring me otherwise, the discounts that I saw just quite didn't rationalize the purchase price for me. After all, some of these products may even be defective Amazon returns and the savings just weren't substantial enough to take that risk. While the products may indeed be acquired through a liquidation sale, or Amazon palette auction model, the price that consumers like me see doesn't quite reflect that. It feels like someone's making a handsome markup here.
