Great mall in the heart of Rochester / home to Mayo Clinic. It surprisingly has decent volume and…read moresize compared to other suburban malls. The basics are there: a decent sized food court, Barnes & Noble for leisure stroll, and a handful of retailers such as Sheels and Macy's. Would love to see the mall freshen up a bit as some of the interior dates give 00s vibes. But that is more of cosmetics, Hope to see more stores pop up in the future. Agree with one of the other reviewers - an Apple Store would be neat!

The major mall in Rochester is Apache Mall. You can't miss the water tower. I didn't take a pic of…read moreit this time, as I wasn't parked on that side of the mall. In the past, when my mom came down to visit me, we took a photo of it. This mall has changed over the years. It used to have Sears, Herberger's, and Dayton's when I was a resident. All three have closed down since. JC Penney remains as one of the larger anchor stores. Dayton's became Marshall Fields, which is now Macy's. I wish that it were a Macy's when I lived here. I would have shopped at this store all the time! Macy's sells Kipling handbags, which is a brand that I adore. The area where Herberger's used to be has been replaced by a solid wall. I never shopped there, so the wall is fine with me! I didn't like shopping at Sears. I believe that Scheels will take over this spot later on this year. Many of the stores that I frequented at this mall are long gone. Yankee Candle is now a memory. However, Bath and Body Works is still alive and kicking, which made me so happy to recognize something. This mall has improved over the years. When I was here a decade ago, Barnes and Noble was new. It is strategically across from the food court, which is perfect to take a nap on a comfy chair at Barnes and Noble when you are in a food coma. I have had a meal at A&W, which is still there. I recently shopped at JC Penney. I like the Sephora section. The sports apparel section that features Minnesota teams was cheerful and had tons of variety. I took a breather and had a drink at Caribou Coffee, which is smack in the middle of the mall. It was nice. Finally, I visited Love from Minnesota. It has the best Minnesota-themed gifts that I have seen in a while. There is plenty of parking here. It has a nice variety of stores. I'm so glad that it continues to improve. (9)

The "bubbles" were a glue like consistency and there was no way you could blow bubbles through the wand of glue. The cat treats were rock hard. I brought the items back the next day and explained the issues. The manager proceeded to take the bubbles out and attempt to blow bubbles herself, which of course was impossible. She then said she could refund my money for that item, but not for the cat treats since my cat "didn't like them". She suggested I donate them to Paws and Claws. I told her no cat would eat those because they are rock hard and told her to throw them away. She refused to refund my money. What a joke. I suggest you do not purchase anything here that you think you may have to return.

You're welcome, Rochester residents... haha! I was curious to find out whether there was a TJ Maxx. I did a search and found this store near Apache Mall. I decided to drive over here to check it out before heading to the mall. This store is in a plaza-mall hybrid. There was lots of parking on a snowy Wednesday afternoon. I parked and headed over to the store. It's an interesting setup where the TJ Maxx-HomeSense store feels like you are in a mall. You go through the main entrance and you walk over to the store in a mall-like setting. However, not all stores are accessible indoors. Many are set up like a plaza where you have an entrance for each store. It's weird. As with most TJ Maxx stores, the purses tend to appear first. I do miss the days when you could readily find Kipling purses. These days, you get Disney and Snoopy ones, which are still up my alley, but aren't as lightweight as Kipling ones. I tend to look at luggage. I had already bought a piece that worked well for my needs, but it never hurts to check this section out. I liked the selection. It had a number of pet duffle bags. It was my first time seeing them at any store's travel section. The face care section is impressive. I have never seen so many face wipes and masked neatly stacked. This store had purple Crocs. I don't own a pair, mainly because I can never find a pair in my size. I was so close here. One day, my dream will come to fruition. The kitchen accessories section made me happy. I found an oil spritzer with a glass base. I've always wanted one and it was at a good price here. Although the base is glass, it's pretty lightweight. I am also a sucker for small appliances. Mainly Dash products were available. I love this brand. I have mini griddle and waffle makers. I didn't need one, but they do make great gifts. The phone accessories section is great, too. I like checking out everything from car phone mounts to portable bank chargers. The lineup wasn't bad. I had a nice woman at the checkout. She looked at my oil spritzer and said that it would be good for plants. That's true, especially for cactuses and succulents that don't require a ton of water. I paid with a credit card. The transaction was straightforward. I thanked the woman and left with my purchase. I'm thrilled that Rochester has a TJ Maxx. It has a decent selection of items that interest me. I'd come back when I'm in southern Rochester. (29)

"But if Lud Ever Sneezes, His Name Will Be Mud" (The…read more"Fuddnuddlers", "Oh Say Can You Say", Dr. Seuss") If you have a toddler boy...or a little nephew, like me, he's got food all over his face, his nose is running, and he DOESN'T STOP MOVING! Well he needs to be properly dressed with sleeves on which to wipe off all that food and snot (aside from that which ends up in his hair), and pants and shoes to let him run towards things that make you yell out, "NOOO"! That's his job, and it's fun! Yours is to find some good deals on sturdy clothes that will last all of a couple months before he grows out of them. The Children's Place, located in the Apache Mall, near the JC Penney Store, is just the spot to have in your kiddo's clothing store rotation for some nifty deals and steals. Most items in the store are currently and commonly 50% off. You'll want to bee-line over to the pant shelves--right now all jeans are $8.00 per pair after the discount. Stockpile some denim gear to cover that rear! By all appearances, the jeans here look very similar to the Crazy 8 brand, and have outlasted them in my nephew's durability tests as well. They've got several styles...bootcut, straight, loose , and skinny for the little hipster. They also have a good selection of cargo pants in a nice range of colors including khaki's, black, navy, and camo. The rest of the clothing here can be hit or miss, but lately the store seems to upped their game--they have something for almost any personality or propensity: BUDDING OUTDOORSMAN - For the little spud who follows the "If the mud ain't flyin', you ain't tryin'" philosophy, they have a nice selection of tough-boy tops such as a bulldozer "Dirt Digger" tee, and a "Professional Mess Maker", faux-layered, graphic tee featuring a dump truck. Tub of Oxy Clean not included. FUTURE ANTHROPOLOGIST - Little messosauruses and coolosauruses alike will stomp and ROAR with delight when you dress them in tees with phrases like, "I dig dinos" and "I put the roar in dinosaur"! A soft hoodie sweatshirt covered in colorful dinosaurs will put your squirt in a scavenging mood as he sifts through rubble, looking for pre-historic treasures. Or just rocks. TEAM PLAYER IN TRAINING - No chance of fumbling your tot's outfit with sporty tees with sayings like, "Lightning fast football player", "Fastest on the field", and "Mom's little winner"! FUTURE HECKLER - Tees straight from the peanut gallery that taunt, "I didn't do it", "Don't make me call my aunt", "The cool kid just showed up", and "It's tough being the family genius", will prepare your mini me for a prime spot in "The Muppet Show" balcony. Don't forget to stop for tomatoes on the way home! If none of these types fit your little guy, go classic in cute Glacier Fleece pullovers that come in colorblock combos like black/neon yellow/gray and navy/neon orange/grey. Grab some matching hats and dare your toddler to actually keep them on! The full shebang of outerwear is also available here from 3-In-1 coats to snow boots, mittens, hats, and scarves. REWARDS PROGRAM - Frequent shoppers will appreciate the loyalty program. It is easy to understand and remember--$1.00 spent= 1 point. 100points = $5.00 reward. Score! RETURNS - We have never had to return any items to this store, but I understand it's not a wonderful process. Ask about returns while checking out if there is any question you might need to bring something back. Overall I'd give this 3.5/5 "Uffdas", but am rounding down due to the often disheveled look of the store, and the fact that I don't normally hit the jackpot here like we did on this trip. The Nosy Norwegian, Sniffing out bargains for your buttercup, markdowns for your moppet, and steals for your sprout so that you don't have to.

My love for Macy's happened years after I had left living in Rochester. I like that there are always sales going on. Macy's ignited my love for Style & Co. clothing and Kipling handbags. I decided to check out this Macy's. I had never been since it became one. The women's washroom has a couch when you first walk in, which looked classy. The washrooms need better maintenance, though. The stall that I was in was great. I can't say the same about the one next to it. I liked the sale happening on ugly Christmas sweaters. 70% off them is a great deal if you plan on wearing it to the company Christmas party and winning the ugly sweater competition. There are a number of them that will get you that crown or tiara. I loved hitting the Kipling handbag section. It had heavily reduced items. I also saw a bit of a shift with its signature monkey, from the fuzzy one on each back, to silver ones. The fuzzy ones are iconic and cute. The silver ones are definitely easier to clean and maintain. I didn't buy anything, but I loved looking at merchandise that I like, including jewellery. I'd come back and hope that they do something about the washrooms. (25)
