We let the instructor know ahead of time through someone already at the studio that we were running just a few minutes late. Instead of showing any understanding, we were told that if we weren't there on time, the doors would be locked. We arrived only five minutes late, and the doors were, in fact, locked. To make matters worse, we were still charged a no-show/cancellation fee even though we did show up. Life happens, and a little grace goes a long way. This felt unprofessional, inflexible, and more focused on collecting fees than treating customers with basic courtesy. As a single mom, it took time and money to plan this outing with friends, and it was supposed to be something uplifting. Instead, it was a frustrating and disappointing experience.

He has clear passion for dancing and for sharing his amazing gift with others. He also has the right ATTITUDE to be an effective instructor. Patient, understanding, knowing how to work with "room temperature IQ" types who are "legends in their own minds", and effectively dealing with Fred Astaire wannabes with two left feet, Dorian gave all the people in the class COMPETENCE and CONFIDENCE, when it was clear that he was so, so, so much better than those in the class. I simply cannot give a stronger recommendation to this outstanding teacher. He is a fabulous dancer with loads of talent but makes everyone feel that they are making good progress. If I had to select just one person to teach me ballroom dancing for an important event (holiday party, wedding, etc.), I would entrust that awesome responsibility to Dorian Deaver. It is similar to recruiting Michael Jordan or LeBron James to teach a basic high school basketball clinic. Damn! You simply cannot do better. Finally... I FOUND A CLASS and it is a fantastic studio that I HIGHLY recommend. Dance Theatre Studio is right in the heart of U of M's campus. It is a second story location above Moe's sporting goods store. Great walkable area if you want to grab a bite or a drink after classes. It is a narrow spot and it was very very crowded in the waiting area, yet it is truly a wonderful space! They have an office in the sort of attic upstairs, and the man who I think owns the place is so so sweet- his name is John. He was helpful, and kind, and very endearing. There are 3 studio spaces A, B, and C. There are also small changing areas for men and women. Studios A and B are larger- C is a smaller space. They offer so many classes here .... Zumba, Cardio Barre, Jazz, Ballet, Hip Hop, Pilates, Body Sculpting,Tap ...for ALL different skill levels and ages. I personally am taking a Hip Hop class and I can't wait to continue classes here for years to come.It is a very well organized studio and it has a really helpful and easy website which I appreciate. My first class was SO fun !!! The instructor was not only a talented dancer and teacher - she was great at amping up the energy of the class and making everyone comfortable. Class starts out with a warm up - including crunches, plank, push ups. We learned great choreography to fun music and then cooled down and stretched. I'm so thrilled to have discovered this place... if you've ever thought about taking dance you should totally try it !!!!!

I'm a modern dancer without a lot of jazz experience, so I was a little worried about jumping into an intermediate class at a studio I wasn't familiar with, but everyone was super welcoming. The class was fast-paced and mostly regulars. I would be cautious of coming to this particular class if you don't have some experience, because I could see it being frustrating. Michelle didn't take a lot of time to offer corrections and taught the choreography quickly, but not too quickly for the class -- everyone was at least getting a sketch of it, but everyone also seemed challenged by it (I was!). She seemed to have a good sense of what parts were difficult for the class in the moment. She also picked some rad music. I would totally go back if I lived here!

It was a very affordable $8 ($7 with student ID) for not only one but up to 3 classes that evening (Salsa 2, Salsa 3, and Bachata) I've been looking for new ways to get exercise that aren't about the typical gym work out... and this one is a great fit.

This is the worst dance studio. The classes are way too…read moreovercrowded. No room to move, people crashing into each other, can't see the instructor. They don't put any limits on the class size and there are way too many people for the size of the room. The classes don't start on time because of the long line to get in and poor management. They will also require people to go through their beginner classes to get to the higher level classes even if they have experience and don't need them. They have rock bottom prices with their Groupon specials (which attracts a lot of people,) but it would be better to pay a little bit more to go to a professional studio.
