We ended replacing the furnace after all, close to midnight it just stopped working again. Eddie and his crew came on 12/11/25 and took a little under 3 hours to remove the old unit and installed the new furnace. My very old central air unit died this past Tuesday, I called On Call and they sent (Eddie) over within 1 hour to help diagnose the issue. My unit which went bad was almost 30 years old. Eddie gave me options to replace with a refurbished unit, but new, buy high efficiency, etc. As I'm planning on staying in my home for a long time I decided to get the best. On call provided a very fair price, provided a senior citizen discount, and quickly ordered me my replacement unit. Today on call came with my new unit which required replacement of the outside part and the part in the attic. They came on time, were very professional, and explained the entire process to me. Before the work started they measured all the entry pieces and found the custom stairs leading to my attic wouldn't have enough space. They were able to take part the steps to get the new unit in and put everything back together perfectly. The install was done perfectly (Mike), super job cleaning up all the outside and inside pieces. Even swept the attic and wiped down the walls. They were super clean inside the house laying down drop clothes and truly made the experience a great one. Duke arrived 15 mins after I called and he put our heater back to life! My husband and I just moved to Staten Island from CA and we have limited knowledge about heating system. Less than a month into the cold season, our heater started to make banging noise. Had some other guy come in to check on it, but night after that, our boiler just wont stay lit anymore. We wanted them to come back and fix it but they couldn't come on a weekend. Ive been freezing in my house already so I gave On Call Mechanical Services a call and Duke came to the rescue right away. He diagnosed what was wrong in a snap and changed the needed part. He also went ahead and diagnosed the banging sound for me even though thats not what I called him for. He provided explanation for what might be causing the sound and made sure theres no air or leak in the heating system. He also gave me information on the status of our boiler (like which parts have been replaced and which are old). At the end of it, he did not overcharge me at all. My wife and son smelled what they thought was freon last night, and turned off the system. This morning, Sunday on 4th of July weekend, I called On Call, left a message, and quickly got a call back. Then Eddie arrived from NJ, diagnosed the problem as the fan blowing over condensation. Gene got in contact with me promptly after I sent out a Yelp Quote Request. We made plans to meet the next morning, for him to inspect my short cycling furnace. Like a true professional, he showed up early and got right to work troubleshooting the problem. He made an effort to explain exactly what he was checking and what he thought the issues were. While we both agreed that the furnace was old, he didn't pressure me to get a new furnace. Long story short, we were able to get the unit running again in short order. I researched most of the HVAC companies in Staten Island before I contacted Gene at On Call Mechanical Services. He has a Hvacr license, seems very reputable, and has overwhelmingly positive reviews. Picture this: Sunday, June 25th, the beginning of summer season, and your 10 year-old air conditioning system out in Williamsburg starts whooshing around warm air instead of cold. Who you gonna call? I WISH I had called Gene and On Call Mechanical Services right away. Instead, I called someone else on Yelp who responded right away but was completely incompetent! After the first person messed up, I went back to Gene. He returned my call immediately. He was professional, polite, knowledgeable. He came out to Williamsburg a couple days later, fixed the initial problem, fixed the problem the FIRST guy created, and did it all efficiently for a reasonable price. No attitude, no drama, just solid quality service. I wish there were more people like Gene who were trustworthy. We called On Call one morning when he had some trouble with our new 1-year old AC. Gene the owner is who we spoke to on the phone that morning and he was very pleasant and accommodating. Exceptional service. During the coldest days of the winter a few weeks back, my parent's heater broke down. Gene was able to send his team to their house within minutes. After evaluating that they were dealing with a 30 year old furnace, Chris who was sent to the house, thoroughly explained our options and worked with Gene on offering us a reasonable price. He provided my dad electric heaters to keep him warm for the night before returning the following morning. Chris, Eddie, Vinnie and Joe were patient in answering any questions my dad had and did a great job replacing the furnace. There was a slight hiccup in communication on the AC unit, but Gene rectified the issue almost immediately, which I appreciated. I was having ongoing issues with my HVAC system and had used a different company, previously, who misdiagnosed the problem. My system stopped working and I called On Call, yesterday, to see if someone could come out and take a look at my system. I spoke with Eddie who came by my residence at the end of the day and took the time to show me what was really happening and I would either have to replace most of the system or could get an entirely new system installed. He promptly gave me quotes for both options, without any sort of pressure, and I ultimately decided to have the system replaced. I was able to have the system put in the very next day (today) which was great due to my scheduling difficulties and the impending weather changes. Purchased a groupon for a tuneup service. Calling and getting an appointment was extremely difficult. I had to call more than 5 times over a time span of 2 weeks in order to lock down on an appointment. In term of service, it was subpar at best and not very professional. Made the wrong diagnosis; originally said certain part should be replaced and would cost $650. I called another technician after and he said everything is fine, and that the on-call technician didn't take the time to fully understand how my heating system is setup. Eddie came out for a quote with another installer - I didn't get his name but both were very nice. My Furnace was so ooold, inefficient, and finally broken. They quoted me the cost to replace it and came 2 days later to replace it. I didn't shop around for prices by getting other in-person quotes, so I can't say if price wise they were the best, but looking online, they were in the range - maybe just a little over for the average cost for install & removal (depending on the site) for the size of furnace I was installing. Service wise I was very pleased. On replacement day, 3 installers came, they were on time, when they were finished they cleaned up better than it was when they got here , they explained things to me, were patient with my questions and answered everything I asked, they were courteous and very professional. I love my new furnace and my warm home :) I was very pleased with them, I would recommend them and would use them again. read more

Boiler stopped working on a Saturday night. We call, someone showed up within half hour. 20 mins later heat was back on and sensor replaced. Professional, honest, didn't try to overcharge us when it's clear we don't know much about heating systems and etc. Price paid was even less than what was originally quoted.
