Chicken/Beef combo plate
Steve S.

Pretty good chicken and beef combo bowl. Both chicken and beef were tasty and flavorful, although I'd prefer for them to be more juicy. The side salad had crouton strips of sorts and was pretty yummy. The portion was generous and will not leave you hungry. It's a simple decor spot with some inside and outside tables. You order at the counter and they call you up when your order is ready. The service at the counter was friendly.

I used to be a regular at OMGrill, but I stopped coming about a year ago due to their high prices. I decided to give them another try recently to see if anything had changed, but unfortunately, it's still the same story. The chimichurri chicken plate, which used to cost $6.99 when they first opened, now costs almost $20. While the food tastes good, it's definitely not worth that price, especially for a place that has more of a "take-out" feel rather than a full dine-in experience. On top of that, they've added a surcharge fee for credit card payments. This just adds to the frustration, as most places include this cost in the price or at least offer some justification for the added fee. I've seen other dine-in restaurants in the area that haven't increased their prices nearly as much over the same period. Sadly, nothing has improved, and the price hike along with the extra fees makes it hard to justify coming back. After this visit, I've decided that I won't be returning again.

Fork is for size reference.

Food flavor is good, service is good, prices for a standard size bowl is a little over $20 with one medium drink a little pricy for about 1lb of meat mostly veggies and white rice but i gotta say its good, My only concern is the clean part of this place i got a bowl and i found A-lot of solid black grill residue on my chicken and beef from not properly cleaning the grills or griddle. I removed most of it and felt when i chewed the rest be careful with your children they will not know the difference. Shame not coming back again.

The chicken chimichurri is so damn good here! Get extra chimichurri on the side, and go with the brown rice instead.

Excellent chicken teriyaki bowls. Walkable from work, reasonably priced, a little sparse on the decor, but the food makes up for it!

For example, the agedashi tofu came with vegetables like zucchini, eggplant, and cauliflower, which is quite unusual and not something I've seen in traditional Japanese preparation. The sashimi also tasted off -- it seemed like very low-quality fish, almost as if it had been frozen for too long. We also ordered a nabeyaki udon for our 2-year-old, knowing it's typically served in a very hot bowl. However, the server attempted to place it directly in front of our child without any hesitation or warning, which felt quite careless and concerning from a safety perspective. Overall, this didn't feel like authentic Japanese cuisine or sushi, but more of an unclear fusion concept. I rarely leave negative reviews, but I felt it was important to share this experience so others don't come in expecting high-quality or traditional Japanese food.

People may wonder if it is enough food and for the regular Omakase, it was 10 courses and I was full by course 8. The chef takes pride in his sushi/food and you can tell. The staff were very nice and explained each item that came out. The restaurant has an intimate feel with jazz music playing. They have an extensive sake collection. The service is friendly and helpful, with lots of great recommendations. I came with my lovely mama, who is very picky about her restaurants. They brought us some fish cake in dashi on the house--I will be dreaming about these fish cakes. Every dish was thoughtful and delicious. We got their special fried soft shell shrimp as per our waitress's recommendation; they were juicy and crispy and full of shrimp flavor that went fabulously with a squeeze of lemon. We've never had soft shell shrimp before, we can't wait to get it again! My mom's favorite was their grilled Hokkaido baby scallops, which were tender and so fresh. Mouthfeel was satisfying and chewy without being tough. The agedashi tofu was some of the best I've ever had, the miso eggplant perfectly sweet and savory. I loved the curry chicken kara-age, the half order came with two pieces! My mom thought it was a bit salty, worth it to note that she's very conscious of her salt intake for blood pressure reasons. I loved it, lol. We shared pieces of nigiri and a negitoro cut roll. That toro was FANTASTIC! Every piece we had was complex and full of flavor. I'm a new uni convert; this one was buttery and sweet. Our waitress mixed up our order for Spanish mackerel with Japanese mackerel and let us keep the Japanese mackerel no charge while still bringing out the Spanish mackerel!! So kind and both pieces were strikingly different (lucky us!!!). I loved my sake and aperol cocktail. I loved everything about this place, for that matter. Now I just need to convince every single one of my friends to come here with me.

Every aspect from the dark walls and wooden bar, down to the music and bathroom is well thought out. You can tell they truly value their space and the customers that support the restaurant. Don't get me started on the food ~ We tried the Bincho Egg Black Tonkatsu Ramen. The broth was silky and creamy, not oily or heavy at all. The black garlic added a very interesting earthy and almost scorched taste to it. The egg was sweet, and I've never had a sweet ramen egg before but it went well with the rest of the umami flavors in the dish. The green onions and wood ear mushrooms had a fresh crunch to them and there was enough to get a good amount in every bite. The charsiu was tender + savory sweet, kinda tasted like cheese to me but that's also a positive lol! The noodles were slightly chewy and the portion was just right for the amount of broth you get. He knows I love hot pot and instead of our usual 626 hot pot spots, he wanted to choose something new and hip that we've never tried before. He heard from a friend that Tabu Shabu was a good hot pot place so we decided to try it out. The restaurant is located in the corner in a huge plaza, we came on a Friday night and although the plaza was busy, we were able to find a parking spot. Inside the restaurant, you'll either be seated the few tables that they or in the center circular "bar" style seating. It was my first time being at a hot pot place with this style seating, but it was a unique experience. Once seated, we were given menus and quickly asked what we wanted to drink. After the waitress took our order, it took us about 15 minutes for our appetizer to arrive. We ordered spicy edamame and a cucumber salad. The menu was very basic and I wasn't impressed with the broth selection. The standard broth was traditional kombu (literally water with a huge piece of seaweed), miso for additional $1, sukiyaki, for additional $3, and tonkotsu for additional $4. Sounds a bit absurd to me that they would charge extra for the different options when at much better tasting Hot Pot places, the options would all be included in the price. After 20 minutes, one of the waiters noticed that we didn't receive our broth or food and asked us if we ordered yet. We told him that a waitress took our order already but we haven't received our food. Turns out, the waitress took our order but didn't place it in the system yet. I'm hangry at this point, we came to our reservation at 7:30, it's 8:20 at this point and we had plans at 9pm-- so I was a bit annoyed that we had to wait so long. Things were turned around once we received our order though, the broth and food came quickly after she placed our order and the veggie platter section was OK. I'm not the biggest fan of hot pot places that have preselected veggie plates. The veggie plate had a small handful of spinach, a few pieces of napa cabbage, 3 pieces of broccoli, two slices of kabocha pumpkin, a small bunch of enoki mushroom, two pieces of tofu, and some onion slices. It's a nice "variety" but I only like broccoli and mushroom, but because I don't eat rice I had no choice but to eat the veggies to fill me up. I'm happy they offered Shirataki noodles! I chose the large portion and did half chicken half chuck roll. The chuck roll I was given was chewy and fatty. I spat out the chewy parts which was basically majority of the portion I was given. Would I come back here? No, but being from the 626, I have higher expectations for hot pot because I've grown up eating it. This is a good hot pot place for beginner hot pot goers.
