I've only been here once, but I was blown away. I felt like I had traveled back in time and was about to watch the assassination of President Lincoln. That's probably a terrible quality but the "old time" feel is what I'm talking about. Also, this place is rather small so I don't think you'd have a bad seat in the entire building, that being said I was in the 8th row. I saw Alton Brown here on Oct. 30th, 2014. The staff were very kind to me. In-fact, prior to the show I had met AB outside the theater and decided to see if they had better seats available. My ticket was for grand tier 1st row. They happened to have 1 seat open up in the 8th row in the main area. I told her it was for my birthday and they made an exception to upgrade my ticket and all I had to pay was the difference, which they were half off on the day of the show. On top of that, AB signed my old ticket and they let me keep it, even though they were suppose to take it. She told me they don't do this usually so it was a special thing. Well they helped make a birthday celebration even better. The theater was very clean, including the bathrooms, and I have no real complaints. Even the temperature during the performance was spot on. Did I mention how beautiful this place is? Really stunning. I've gone to shows in different cities but I think our theater takes the cake. When I get more money/something interesting comes to town, I will definitely go!

A few years back we had a TERRIBLE experience at the Orpheum Theater. Their inability to deal with drunken violent patrons led to us taking over a five year break from attending anything there and instead chose to patronize other theaters for our play viewing needs. We frankly did not feel safe and felt that the theater did not take patron safety concerns seriously in any way. Recently we attended Wicked for Girl Scout night and I was pleasantly surprised by improvements that have been made. There are now security checks, entrance/exits seem more secure and staff is definitely more present. My girls and I felt safe and thoroughly enjoyed the show.

Fantastic venue!! Love the atmosphere and decor. Anywhere you sit is an awesome seat. I absolutely recommend everyone see a show here.

What a beautiful place!!!! So cool lookin inside. Great service of bar staff even with crazy lines for a huge crowd. Still courteous and friendly service. The sound quality of the show was impressive as well and loved the older gentleman running the elevator :) all in all very nice staff in general too :)

Beautiful venue, and a great atmosphere to take in a show. This is definitely a wonderful old building that has been restored top to bottom. I have seen quite a few shows here, both main floor and balcony levels. All of the seats we have had, offered good views of the stage. They offer bar service before and during intermission, and it is not too overpriced seeing you are a captive audience. The only downsides to the place are that the seating is tight, so it is not the most comfortable experience while taking in a show. The bathrooms are also few and far between, so maybe go easy on the drinks before the show, because expect a looong line at intermission. Other than that, the place really is pretty gorgeous inside, and is a great part of downtown. Definitely the place to go if you want a little culture in your life from time to time...

We went down to the orchestra level to get a picture of the famous phantom chandelier.

Love this place. Saw The Phantom of the Opera today. It was amazing. Everyone working there were very helpful in finding bathrooms and letting us know that intermission was almost over while we were outside. Can't wait to go back!

There are lots of little touches here and there that are very unique and a nod to the past. I love the creaky wood floors and they've done an excellent job of keeping as much of the original architecture and building intact. You definitely feel like you're stepping into a bygone era. They had a full bar and very decent drink prices. I would definitely rent out this venue if I needed a space in the future.

Depending upon your event, there are a couple of areas to choose from, and the outdoor space is simply beautiful. What made this review a 3 instead of a 5 is two things: 1) Parking. It's on-street and not plentiful near the venue. When I attended, I did a terrible thing (because I got so frustrated with driving around the blocks for parking); I parked on the sidewalk. Not the best choice, I admit. Now I know to arrive at least 30 minutes prior to the start of any event there. 2) The chairs. HORRIBLE. I attended a theatrical production as part of the Great Plains Theatre Conference. Including announcements, the production lasted 90 minutes--90 excruciating minutes. To make sure it wasn't just my reaction, I looked around. What I discovered was an audience of so many people moving, bending, adjusting, and re-adjusting in their seats. It's as if the owners of 40th Street said, "What are the cheapest, most uncomfortable chairs on the planet? Yep! Let's buy those!!" If you attend an event here in which you will be sitting for longer than 20 minutes, bring a seat cushion with you. If you've read some of my other reviews, you'll note that I'm unforgiving when it comes to uncomfortable seating. This venue had the worst by far. The owners should eat their own dog food and sit in those chairs for at least half an hour just to experience what their guests are experiencing. That said, if you're looking for a place to hold an event--and you want something out of the ordinary and memorable--I recommend 40th Street Theatre. If you're a business and want a get away event where your employees can have some nosh and network, I think it's great for that. Standing, chatting, mixing, mingling--40th Street Theatre hits a home run for that.

You could tell everyone put a lot of effort into their performances. We also thought the theatre itself was really neat. It definitely has an Old World look to it. A few things that I think could be improved on is informing the audience of where the bathrooms are located prior to the show. I found a bathroom by following someone else downstairs to the basement. Luckily that is where they were headed, as I had no idea. Lastly, although the theater is beautiful, the armrests need refurbishment. My seat's armrests (as well as the rest of my party's seats) had several nailheads sticking up, so that your sweater or other delicate fabric would get snagged repeatedly. Other than these small issues, we enjoyed our time together as a family.

Before the play started, the lobby was filled with a vibrant crowd that I assume were regular theater goers in the Omaha area. Many appeared to know each other and there was a real sense of community that was exciting to step into, if only for an evening. The theater itself is small yet cozy. I went to a Friday show, so the house was packed. Seats are first come, first served. So keep that in mind if you decide to use the restroom or arrive later after seating opens up. The play and cast was amazing. I heard from the regulars that this theater focuses on modern and cutting edge plays, which was in line with my experience. I paid $45 for my ticket, which I found to be reasonable compared to what I can expect to pay for theater in other cities around the country. Overall, I had a great experience! The play was about abortion and we still laugh about it after 30 years lol. I do admit that we pretty much knew that going in, but it was before the Internet really existed so we probably knew about it from The Reader. But, about the theater - it's really a special place, there is a bar with a nice selection of canned drinks (alcohol and not) and cocktails. I think they also have cookies. We saw a play last night, it was 80 minutes, no intermission, one-man performance. Absolutely amazing - The Night Larry Kramer Kissed Me. This is something that you would see in The City, you know, edgy and sophisticated and deep, but also so funny. There is only ONE problem with the Blue Barn. It's small, and the performances WILL sell out, so you need to get tickets before they have all been sold.

The check in and security was smooth and simple, they have metal detectors which I appreciate for safety. We had lots of help from the patrons to help us find our seats. My husband surprised me with 2nd row seats for the show, it was amazing being that close to the performance! The drinks were just okay. I wanted a coffee at intermission and when I asked what coffee they serve, she said "decaf," which is as a little annoying. I want to stay awake which is the purpose of coffee, and I still don't know if it's a good coffee or simple Folgers. We opted to share a glass of Chardonnay, served in a plastic cup with a lid. Not because of the shows per se, but because of the community this place has created. The employees who make it all happen. I'll talk specifically about tonight. Went to a show, and had an issue with my ticket. This issue was an issue I created by making a mistake when the tickets were transferred, but Steelhouse employees were so quick and helpful. They took something that could have ruined a whole evening, and they resolved it within minutes. That alone was impressive and very kind especially since the mistake was not on their end. I was greeted by familiar faces, some who seemed to even remember me back. My next experience was specifically upstairs in the balcony. I'm currently expecting and needed to sit down and rest for a bit due to some complications I've been having. The employees checked on me regularly and went way above and beyond to make sure I was well cared for. I'm not special, they did this to everyone there. I saw paramedics with a gentleman, and shortly after, an employee took the rest of his evening to sit next to this ill person and assist them until I can only assume their ride arrived safely. The janitors were kind, and picked up very quickly after people's accidents left and right. Their work does not go unappreciated by people like me, who could've slipped and fallen on the spilled drinks along the way to and from the GA floor. Even the elevator greeters genuinely seemed excited for you to experience all this place had to offer. The cops that nod your way as you exit the venue are kind as well. This place doesn't appear to be an establishment of employees, but a community built upon responsibility and caring for one another - what a venue should be. I will be back, and I cannot wait to greet the faces of those who work so hard to make simple concerts so so special and memorable in ways that you just don't find just anywhere.
