It was very comfortable in there, I was prepared for it to be either too cold or too hot since it had been snowing. Girls' night out at the Omaha Community Playhouse! We went to see Titanic: The Musical, and from start to finish, it was such a lovely experience. We were greeted at the entrance by the kindest gentleman, who warmly thanked us for coming. Such a small gesture, but it set the tone for the evening. At the box office, there was a tiny ticket snafu, but the staff handled it quickly and got us squared away in no time. Before the show, we took a few minutes to check out the Titanic artifact display. I always love seeing pieces of history and how they're woven into the experience. Fun Fact: The bestie and I dressed up as the Titanic and the Iceberg for Halloween one year. I attached the picture for giggles. Also, be it known... I was the Iceberg, and I WAS THERE FIRST!!! Naturally, we headed to the bar to grab a drink and some water. The line moved fast, which we appreciated. Our first drink choice, the Cutwater Strawberry Margarita, sounded promising but turned out to be more of a shipwreck than a smooth sail. After a few sips, we tossed it overboard and went back for something else. No Cutwaters were harmed in the making of our evening, just given a respectful burial at sea. As for the show itself, it was fantastic. The props, the staging, the talent, everything drew me in. The story was told beautifully, and I found myself totally captivated. Omaha has some serious talent, and if you haven't been to the Omaha Community Playhouse yet, I highly recommend it. They're celebrating their 100th year, and from what I've seen, they've got a century's worth of magic to be proud of. read more

Had a good time seeing A Christmas Carol. Beautiful inside Christmas decorations, 2 bars and plenty of parking. The lines to the bar do get pretty long, so make sure you get there at least 30 minutes before the show starts, and this year they went cashless. I thought the cost of the drinks were reasonably priced compared to going to Baxter or CHI arena. There are plenty of friendly staff members to assist with any questions or guide you to the right area. They also have space to hang your coats. read more

We had a great time seeing A Christmas Carol here. It was my first time at OCP, but this play is an Omaha tradition and for good reason. Buying the tickets was a breeze over the phone and we picked up the tickets at will call the night of the show with no issues. Parking was a breeze, there's plenty of space in the lot. Even after heavy snow storm the day before, it was clear. The theatre and playhouse was decorated beautifully for Christmas, trees all around and lit garland, it was magical. There were 2 bars, but had really long lines if you didn't get there quickly enough. They had specialty drinks, non alcoholic options, coffee and cocoa, and some sweet treats. I had to get a coffee at intermission and it was only $2, a great deal! They had Mrs Cratchit's coffee which was coffee + Bailey's, which would've been fun too. The play was wonderful! I even teared up at the end when Scrooge became a nice person. All the actors were incredible, and the children were so precious, they all worked hard to put on a good performance. The theatre itself had comfy seats, a decent amount of leg room, and felt roomy even though it's a small venue (500ish people). On the way out, we all got to take home a special Christmas bread from Rotella's, I can't wait to dig into it! read more

Small building with a few theaters. My dad and I watched Jimmy Buffet's Margaritaville ($58 + $8 online processing fee) in the main theater which was cute and fun to watch. The next night we watched American Mariachi in the significantly smaller theater. The brochure said it was a lot of the performer's first time performing on a stage and that 4/5 of the female musicians had just learned how to play those instruments 4 months prior. . . and you could tell.... the performance was not great. Acting was poor. Music was poor. 100% not worth $40 (I paid in person so thankfully no $8 fee). I would have paid maybe $5-10 to watch that show. Way overpriced. I felt like I was watching a high school performance. read more

I just love the Omaha community Playhouse! Productions are always first rate. The facility is located just north of Dodge and East of 72nd St. Founded nearly 100 years ago there is a tremendous momentum to support up-and-coming individuals that are interested in theater and an ongoing entrepreneurial spirit, supporting diversity and community initiatives by the cast and crew alike. Theater classes are available along with internships. Kudos to all the individuals that make this possible including the generous benefactors. We enjoyed the last of the 2022/2023 season show, called Respect which focused on the women, their music, and their stories over the past half century. Such talent in Omaha is just amazing! The theater itself offers complementary off street parking but it can be tight particularly if there's more than one event scheduled for the evening so prepare accordingly. Convenient drop off at the door for folks needing special assistance is also a plus. The lobby area has Will Call , coat check, along with a full bar for your convenience. Tickets previously purchased through TicketOmaha will be changing in the not too distant future, and I would encourage that you stick for the moment to the paper tickets and pick them up at will call as there seems to be some IT connectivity issues within the theater that prevent you from bringing up your electronic tickets, sometimes! Luckily, Will Call will print out your tickets if you have the pertinent information associated with the purchase. I would add that the seating configuration hasn't changed to keep up with taller people and might be something they need to consider for future renovations. 2023/2024 season sales are just beginning and are available either at the theater or online. Check out the shows that run from late fall through middle of next summer. Home of such famous individuals include Henry Fonda, Marlon Brando, and many others. Highly recommend you check out this wonderful asset in the community, which is rated one of the best in the country. read more

We just saw Beautiful-Music of Carol King. A fantastic production that rivals many professional productions and outshines many professional productions. The theater is well maintained, comfortable seats, easy access to restroom, excellent sound system , and a fantastic orchestra and conductor. The people working there are very very friendly and knowledgeable and professional. We enjoyed every minute. We will definitely be coming back. read more

We paid good money to be entertained and not to be exposed to the entertainers political views. Everybody has a right to their views, but there's a right place at the right time to express them and a playhouse is not the place or time. I'm very disappointed. read more

I had the good fortune to see two shows this fall, one in each theater. Of course "A Christmas Carol" is an Omaha staple, an annual tradition for many, and had been on my bucket list for years. This year I finally took the plunge catching the matinée on opening weekend. I was worried that the balcony seats wouldn't be that great but they were perfect. We had no trouble hearing or seeing the action on the stage. It is a long play, clocking in at over 2 hours with a short intermission. We got there early to get a decent parking spot and had no difficulty when leaving. The playhouse was beautifully decorated with Christmas trees for the season. Cast members hung around in the lobby afterwards chatting with people and posing for pictures. I also attended the popular interactive Beatles tribute, "Yesterday & Today", on the smaller Howard Drew stage which seats about 200 but again, not a bad seat in the house. This is the 11th year for this show led by Billy McGuigan, his two brothers and a few other talented musicians. Fantastic show and experience! This is a must-see for people of all ages who even remotely like The Beatles' music. read more

We have seen 3 productions at the Omaha Community Playhouse and all were excellent! They rival professional/Broadway productions - better than some I've seen. Recently saw RENT in the smaller theater and they did a very ingenious and creative job of transforming the entire theater. It was a very immersive experience and for the first time, the story and character lines in RENT were clear. All the leads were superb - the direction fantastic, band great too. I've been here before for A Christmas Carol (who hasn't?) and it's great. However, I also saw a performance in the Drew theater. This is a much smaller venue (seats about 150) and there's not a bad seat in the house. I saw "Yesterday and Today a Beatles Interactive Experience". It was quite awesome! The acoustics in the Drew Theatre are on point and the performers seem to acknowledge it. Seat comfort is OK but the performance distracted me from that. After all, you're not paying for a comfy seat; rather entertainment instead. There is plenty of staff here. The ushers are friendly and very helpful when you are looking for your seat. The lobby is easy to navigate and the restrooms are easy to find. The parking lot is close by and the spots are ample if you have a larger vehicle. Omaha Community Playhouse is a great venue to see performances; large and small. read more

I continue to always be impressed with the Omaha Community Playhouse. I'm just sad it took me a few years after moving to Omaha to attend a production at this great venue. So far I have seen one play and three musicals. The musicals continue to be top-notch. I took my parents to Jesus Christ Superstar and Spamalot--both productions which we have seen in Las Vegas and Chicago, so you would think much bigger productions there then at a community playhouse. However, that's not the case. Omaha Community Playhouse actors impressed us so much--they were just as good and if not better than what we have seen at other big venues. Last night I saw The Producers and absolutely loved it. The cast is excellent, costumes are amazing, and the set design is astounding. You can really tell that the cast and volunteers behind the scenes put a lot of effort in to these productions! I think prices at the Playhouse are very reasonable. $30 for a ticket to a big name musical is cheap in my books--and if you buy your ticket the day of the performance it is half off! What a great deal for an outstanding venue and productions. read more

The production was great, they always add a little something to update year after year - which helps keep it fresh for annual attendees. Very nice place. I went with some clients I have that are wheelchair bond and the parking for handicapped is a little rough from what I experienced! We had to use this lift to go up 3 steps and it was a big pain to use, wish they could put in a little ramp! Just be prepared if you have people in wheelchairs read more

I've heard it's the largest community playhouse in the county, don't know if this is true, but it is a great place. Off and on over the years, we have had season tickets and enjoyed most of what we have seen. With two venues, the Mainstage Auditorium and the smaller more intimate Howard Drew Theatre, you get different types of performances. I enjoy their annual The Christmas Carol which is always top notch. The musical are usually the best in my opinion! read more

I went to see the Mystery of Irma Veep and the ticket cost was great. It was BYOB so next time i'll bring the bread! Irma was very nice and danced for me. Little extra but well worth it. The other girls in the cast were just as stunning but i ran out of money! Couldn't uber home but luckily my Uncle Jefro was there and gave me a ride, told me to stay in the car while he went to the casino, bought me a sandwich and said not to tell my aunt i saw him there. I grew up going to productions here, and now returning after 15 years since my last show I was still impressed with the high quality shows that are put on here. The building itself is fantastic, just a warning it's not uncommon it appears for the lot to be full and guests to need to park on the street. Arrive early to accomodate! read more

Just saw Rock Twist. This is an energetic, creative show with a wide variety of music. It is the most creative McGuigan show to date. By and large an artistic gem in Omaha or anywhere else. The staff and volunteers give everything 110% and there is just a strong spirit of creativity, intelligence and good will about the place. "A Christmas Carol" is their yearly big earner, but for my money that's easily among the weaker and more strained offerings here. Much of what I've seen at OCP is on par with or better than theater I've seen in Los Angeles. read more

I really wanted to love the playhouse, as I truly love gong to plays. However this was the first play I walked out on in intermission, and sadly I will not be coming back here. The seats were incredibly uncomfortable, and stacked one seat behind the other making it difficult to see the show, and the parking was horrendous. I love going to the playhouse in Omaha. But the seating is horrible. If you are short the play is almost impossible to see. Instead of the seats being offset every other row (like building with legos) you sit right behind the person in front of you. and they are so low everyones neck hurts at the end of the play. It is very beautiful with beautiful sets. I wish they would have put more time in to the layout of the seating so i could enjoy the plays more often read more
