I ordered the Beer Battered Atlantic Cod basket with fries, and for $13.99, the cod was not only delicious and crispy, but the fries were just excellent with the fish as well. Not only that, the portions were very large, too. I was super full after that meal! I will absolutely order this again, just thinking about it makes me hungry. Service was top-notch, as usual. There is not a single day where I have came in and it took more than 10 minutes to be seated and have my order taken. Everyone there is so friendly, and it really felt like the service was so good there, they were only serving me. That's just how fast it is. Inside is always great, too. Calico's has a large range of artworks, trinkets, and more. They showcase R66 stuff, too. The inside is never too hot or too cold, and it's all clean and comfortable with a massive space inside. Highlights included: 1) The sweet potato waffle fries were a true standout for me from our meal. I would come back again just for those! 2) Roughly halfway through our visit, the owner, manager, or someone else with significant influence came in and elevated the customer service from satisfactory to a true five-star experience. We discussed our travels across the United States. He recommended scenic routes we could take to Phoenix. He gave us complimentary stickers and encouraged us to check out their other locations in Williams, Flagstaff, and Page. He truly went above and beyond to ensure we had a memorable experience while visiting Arizona. 3) The impressive selection of locally made beers from Arizona on draft. Everything about the evening was heading toward five stars. Then, at approximately 9:24 p.m., manager Scott Dittmer came in and called last call. On a Sunday. When the posted closing time is 10:00 p.m. There were still plenty of customers in the restaurant enjoying themselves and ordering. By around 9:30, people trying to order additional items were being told they couldn't. Meanwhile, the staff was still working hard taking care of everyone. It was strange watching a genuinely fun atmosphere get intentionally shut down roughly half an hour before closing. I completely understand if the kitchen closes at 8:00 PM. What disappointed me was that we were already seated, the restaurant still had numerous customers, drinks were still being served, and no effort was made to accommodate us despite being right on the margin of closing time. As a business owner myself, I understand that operating hours and kitchen policies are important. However, I also believe that customer service matters, especially when someone makes the effort to come in and spend money with your business. A little flexibility in situations like this can turn a customer into a loyal supporter. Instead, we left and went to another local restaurant, where we had an excellent meal, great service, and spent over $130 including tip. If this is the owner's policy, then I respect that. If it was simply an employee's decision, I would encourage management to review how these situations are handled. Unfortunately, this experience left us disappointed and will only go to Nikos when other options are exhausted.
