We were out for a beautiful Saturday drive and came upon this place. The bright blue and white color of the building and the word "Greek" caught my eye. I'm a sucker for Greek, so we pulled in. We were hungry. Timing is everything. The atmosphere is very homey. The service was outstanding. It gives you this small mom and pop family cafe kind of feeling. The restrooms were very clean. I ordered hummus and spanakopita appetizers. Both were good. I wouldn't call them "the best" I've ever had (I've had great Greek) but it wasn't terrible either. I'm confused by some of the other reviews. Not sure if it has to do with inconsistency in the food preparation, but what I ate was good and tasty and very well presented. I posted some pics. The moussaka was very delicious. My only pet peeve would be the size of the side Greek salad was a bit on the puny side. But the dressing was delicious. I wouldn't drive all the way from Tampa just to eat here, but if I'm in Bradenton again and I'm hungry I wouldn't hesitate to come back. read more

I do not recommend this place. I made a mistake as i was leaving a review for a different place. i clicked on their name by mistake. the new people who took over this place does not have the same taste in food as it did with the original owner who had it for years and years. The food is not up to the standards it's always had in past with the Greek family who owned it. The service has had a big drop. Save your money and go to a real greek place. The Olympic has been here forever. It's a family-owned, family style restaurant...but don't let that scare you: they have beer and wine. Their Greek food is good, and clearly prepared fresh. In from Alaska hoping for some Greek food. Saturday night at 7:30 the place was packed and hopping. We were greeted by a white board boasting more than 10 specials and were immediately seated in a cozy booth. My husband ordered the Moussaka Plate, which included Greek salad, spanokopita, stuffed grape leaves and pistachio ( the latter was new for us) I had the basso sandwich... a Greek fish, with Greek seasonings. Very good gyros from tough grader. The pita was a little dry. Time on the griddle with a dab of oil would have helped. Could have used a little more white sauce. Great ripe tomatoes. Nice thinly sliced onions. A good amount of meat. Should have had a cube of feta or pepperoncini as a garnish instead of a dill pickle. French fries were very good. Service was fantastic from the greeting upon entering, the quick seating in a clean dining room and the very nice waitress who had our drinks back to us within a minute. Fun, eclectic menu. Gyro was tender and not over salted. It had flavor-- with the right balance of salt. The Greek salad was delish. The small is good for lunch, the larger one was larger and I took my left over home and enjoyed it at dinner. Get the fries. They aren't included but worth the slight up charge. They were cool holding the feta cheese -- as my kids can't do dairy. Worth the drive and located close to Publix and Winn Dixie and Fresh Market. I stop by for a gyro sometimes because I think they are pretty good, but they are not Kronos gyros, which is what I got up north and which are much better. The thing is, they are never hot, so I asked the lady at the window if she would make it a tad - just a tad - crisper, and of course the meat came back overdone and dry. This "family" owned business is the epitome of entitlement. My boyfriend and I try to call and order ahead and the woman who answered seemed very annoyed that my boyfriend said "one second I have to look at the menu item name" and she replied "well then you'll need to just call back"... So she hangs up and he finds the item in 30 seconds and calls back for her to then answer "yeah hello, you're going to need to wait now". After she had already told us to call back, we end up getting there before she even took our order. Upon walking in you can tell the place is 60 years old and so are all the workers. The woman in the front (owner) says "I'll be with you in just a second" and then proceeded to do god knows what for 15 mins in front of us with out saying a word or even asking what we wanted. Then a couple walks to the front to pay and she walks right up to them to check them out and I butted in and said "can we order first please? We've been waiting for 15 mins now" to which she replies in a very rude and aggressive tone " I told him it would be a few minutes" ACTUALLY you said "I'll be with you in just a second" and set up the wrong expectation of us to then wait 20 mins before we even get to order TAKE OUT. Stopped by this place today and had a decent meal. The burly and brusk woman who served as the hostess / cashier was so grouchy was almost left. With a completely empty restaurant, she seemed annoyed that we wanted to select our booth (and before you wonder about waitresses and sections, there was only one waitress, and no other patrons in the place.) The waitress was an older lady who was a bit grumpy at first, but then mellowed. The lemon soup was tasty, but oddly think and opaque, as though it had loads of cornstarch in it to make it thick, rather than the usual rice starch acting as a thickener. It had a few grains of instant rice stirred in and a few tiny pieces of chicken. With that description, you'd think it was awful, but it was oddly tasty, if very unauthentic. Maybe I was just hungry. I ordered the special, which was Mykonos grouper, prepared with tomatoes, spinach and feta. It was a generous portion, cooked well, and quite tasty. At $20, it was quite a bit pricier than any of the other fish dishes on the menu (most were $15) which didn't make any sense. It also came with a side of Greek potatoes (two wedges) which were delicious, as well as Greek styles peas, which were gross. Husband had gyro, which he said was tasty, the flatbread was super soft and tasty. It wasn't the best he ever had, but it was tasty. For dessert, we shared a homemade rice pudding, which was tasty and wasn't too sweet. By 4:30, the place was packed with the pre-early bird crowd. We paid and hostess-zilla grumpily took my receipt and credit card and (pet peeve) snapped it down on the counter instead of handing it back to my outstretched hand. I looked over her shoulder and saw a sign that said "I can only please one person a day. Today isn't looking too good for you and blah blah tomorrow." I marveled at what dumbass decided that putting a "cutesy" screw-you-customer sign right right where the customer hands over their money was a good idea. Not so much. read more

I can't stress how wonderful this place is. For 23 years I drove by without stopping. My girlfriend wanted a spinach pie so we decided to try it. Wow. Amazing is all I can say. Both soup choices, lemon chicken and the cabbage soups were terrific starters and I had a beautiful tasty fried seafood platter with shrimp scallops, fish and clam strips. Other than Star Fish Co In Cortez this was the best seafood I've eaten including from all the high profile tourist traps on the island. Can not wait to come back and sample more of the menu. Have driven by just about everyday and never stopped in. I'm from wester NY state and we have a lot of really good greek diners. While I don't think it's as good as WNY, the food was pretty good. We had a gyro platter and a gyro sandwich; the meat was just right, the greek salad and rice pilaf that came with meal were both good. They have plenty of American food, burgers, wings etc etc. They even have greek beer. I will go back again, it's been added to our list. read more

I just returned from the Olympic Cafe --- and I am full and satisfied! To me, it seems that it's not that easy to find really good restaurants in Bradenton/Sarasota. Being a foodie and a former food service professional, I might have higher standards than the average diner. Taste, quality and quantity (at least a decent-sized portion, NOT small food) are my requirements. And, let me say that Olympic Cafe meets all three standards! It's a "diner-style" restaurant with a heavy "Greek look." The restaurant appears very clean and staff members aren't just standing around doing nothing. In terms of food, there's what you would expect at a good diner---breakfast items, sandwiches, burgers, etc. The specials board offered a nice variety of dishes for dinner, including quite a few seafood entrees. I was just dying for a good gyro, though and that's what I ordered, along with an order of French fries. It was possibly the BEST gyro I've ever had, and I've had quite a few in my days. Not only was it delicious (sliced gyro meat---the usual lamb and beef combination, tomatoes, onions and fresh, excellent tzatziki sauce, all wrapped in a warm flatbread), but it was HUGE! The sandwich was bulging with sliced gyro meat. The French fries were perfect, too. Nice and crispy on the outside and tender inside. My only complaint would be that the portion of fries seemed kind of small to me. I will be back---it is now on my list of great restaurants to visit when I'm in town. In fact, I might just go back for dinner! Wouldn't be the first time I've gone to a restaurant twice in one day. There's plenty of traditional Greek items on the menu and I feel like I have to try them all, based on my first experience at the Olympic Cafe. This is my favorite Greek restaurant! My husband usually gets the gyro platter and I get the gyro salad. Sometimes we'll get an appetizer such as their dolmas or Saganaki. Prices are cheaper than most Greek restaurants but the food is nonetheless outstanding. We live out closer to Lakewood Ranch but usually make the trip if we're in the mood for Greek. It might seem strange to have really good Greek food in Florida, but this place must be doing something right to be around this long. The same owners have been there 18 years - and indeed they were working when we ate. I had the gyro - it is pretty simple: fresh pita, lamb, tzatziki sauce and sweet onions (no lettuce) and it came with a side of unremarkable slaw. Eating a gyro brings back memories of college when we would get them after a night at the bars. I don't think I was concerned about food quality then. My 5 year old daughter had chicken fingers and french fries. I am trying to NOT feed her these at every meal we eat out. It is a tough proposition to break her of the habit considering how good the quality of these fingers were. read more

I just had an experience in this establishment which had a sign out front that back in 2018 it was deemed the BEST GREEK RESTAURANT by the Bradenton Herald. Tonight I ordered the broiled seafood platter for $21.95. The portion of food consisted of 2 measly shrimp, 2 measly scallops, a small piece of bassa and a small portion of sole. I must admit that my food was hot. However, the portion described above did not at all meet my expectation. Upon checkout the person at the register asked how my meal was AND I indicated to her my concerns...... Her response was...... well next time order something else! Honestly... this is my 'go to' restaurant when I am in the area. The food is REALLY really really good! Home made-comfort food taste. Their soups are seriously better than your mom makes and my mom makes pretty good soup. The short rib dinner... OMG! I have not had the fish but hear it is amazing. STUFFED PEPPERS! OMG! I want to give it a 4 because sometimes the service is a bit slow but honestly they are always so busy that it would not be fair to deduct for this as they deserve how busy they are. They recently got a new menu that is full of lots of great options. I chose the stuffed flounder which was very tastey - even leftover. It came with soup or salad (Greek salad), starch (baked potato), and veggies (Greek green beans...which seemed more like Italian green beans to me). It also came with hot pita. Reasonable prices. Something has changed with their food, first the lemon soup is just NOT GOOD anymore, it tastes like flour water. I ordered it 3 times in the last couple months and it's the same bad soup each time. New cook? New recipe? Just bad. The saganaki is much smaller and thinner, and the lamb shank is just ridiculous now. It used to be huge, enough for leftovers, it is a quarter of the size and you will leave hungry. Yet the prices continue to rise. It's a damn shame because this WAS one of favorite restaurants....GET YOUR ACT TOGETHER, before it's only tourists eating there because they dont know any better. read more

I noticed the parking lot was full when we drove up for lunch....always a good sign! We were seated quickly, and since this was my first visit here I ordered the specialty....the lunch priced gyro!
