My kids just finished their 2nd round of classes here . We signed up Olympian because it's really close to where we live and the price was good compared to a few other swim schools. They provide swimming lessons and competitive swimming. Their website states that they are owned & operated by the former professional coaches of the Toronto Olympian team and the former Canadian Olympic Swim team coach. Based on that alone i expected professionalism and good results.
When you walk in there is a wall of hangers and shelves for your coats & outdoor shoes. 4-5 computers behind a long desk where the employees sit. 95% of the time, they are socializing together, on their cell phones or surfing the web.
A few things that make them fall short for me are:
1. Change rooms - there is only 1 women's change room. It is always full and my 8 year old has ZERO space to hang her bag or get changed. The cleaning lady always seems to be lurking around too, just standing looking for a minute before she does something. They have a strict rule of no outdoor shoes beyond the entrance to change rooms & the pool, but the floors of the change room have so much grime caked on the tiles, it's disgusting! Plus people wear their swim shoes to the washroom, so i don't know how that is hygienic at all!
2. Online portal - this is very convenient to keep track of your kids classes & report any absence. However, you can't always reschedule right away and you can forget about calling them to confirm, because in the 6 months we have been going there, NOBODY ever answers the phones on the weekends. It's frustrating and very annoying.
3. Young staff - I wanted to take my kids somewhere where the coaches have 10-15 years swimming experience and at least 5-10 coaching. That is not possible here as some of the coaches are as young as 17!
4. Parking - pretty fair sized lot, but it is shared with a dance studio and another business. They have extra parking in the lot of the building beside them, but not an easy walk with small kids. Especially in the Winter when it's cold & there is a lot of snow/snowbanks.
I have yet to see any senior management at this location. I hate to even say this, but it looks like it's run by a bunch of kids!
20 classes and my kids are still doing what they walked in knowing. Time to move on and get some results. read more
