The teachers were very caring and responsive to all our concerns. We received quick responses for all our queries. We diligently received daily log books for the kid's daily activities including food intake and sleep quality. The teachers were always thoughtful and verbally gave us daily updates about the kid's day at the time of picking them off and were at the door while welcoming them in daily. Regular Instagram posts also gave us a peep into what the kids were doing on a daily basis. One major advantage is the cleanliness of the place. The Montessori is very clean and well maintained. We would definitely recommend First academy if you are staying in and around Cornell, Markham.

My daughter cried for almost two months, the staff from supervisor, her teachers to admin all were so patient and helpful during this hard transition from home to school. My child attended SK here. The teachers are very knowledgeable. Debbie (SK teacher and assistant…read moreadministrator) has been a teacher for more than 25 years! They follow a curriculum that really prepares them for grade 1 extremely well. Everyday, they monitor the child's progress against the curriculum. They even give a "report card" at the end of the year. The hours are 8:00am to 5:45pm. Morning snacks, lunch, and afternoon snacks are provided. They go out to the Nathan Phillips Square playground in the early morning and late afternoon each day. In the event of rain and bad weather, they use the City Hall gym. For JK and SK, they hold special special interest classes in music, French, and dance. In the winter, they have ice skating in the Nathan Phillips Square rink. In the summer, they have "picnics". Once a year, they have a picnic on Center Island for the entire daycare. They teach the children responsibility and friendly play. If your child has an accident, they write up an incident report. There was a shooting near City Hall once. I happened to be there to witness their emergency protocol (move all children into 2 internal rooms without windows) and keep them occupied. They will call up and email parents to explain what happened.

If you want to feel secure in leaving your child at a daycare, choose Friends. I cannot tell you how much they touched our lives. They are attentive, caring and very professional. The facility is comforting because it's in the Quarker Society house on Lowther. It's clean and they have a playground as well as a park across the street. They go on field trips as well. Not only that but they also offer JK/SK and Lorna is a great teacher. My son learned SO MUCH in one year of JK that he spent there. It definitely put him ahead. My son had already been back to visit and I have a feeling he will continue to well into adulthood.

They create structure, but don't get bogged down by it. They offer life experience and spend as much as possible exploring through play as a teaching tool. Especially in their backyard oasis. They even offer music enrichment classes. One of the great things about friends is that there are children from the age of two to five all in the same room. Again, this offers a family experience. The staff are also excellent. They spend a lot of time working with the needs of you (yes, you) and your child. The staff here can tell exactly what kind of morning both you and your child have had when you arrive. And they truly help out when it's time to say goodbye to your little one. For anyone in the U of T area who wants an affordable and unique daycare experience, I highly recommend Friends.

This EarlyON location doubles as a daycare center as well and has 2 spare rooms in the back for EarlyON programs. The priority room is given to the location in the attic and secondary room is located on the main floor for the spill over from the attic. Activities are also hosted in either or rooms. The staff are incredibly friendly and many speak Chinese to accommodate the dominant demographic in the area. I'd recommend coming earlier or coming on a weekday to avoid the crowds. The facilities are very welcoming and parents bring meals and snacks for their children as well. The best part is that the center is all free so it gives parents/care givers an opportunity to connect with others and engage in activities for their young ones. Overall, I'd recommend the facility but would advise families to go early as possible and/or go during the weekdays. Their schedule and activities can be found online and offer a range of interactive events for newborns to children 6 years of age.
