Our tour guide today says, "weren't you just here yesterday"? I replied "no." Then she says "you all look the same". Tour continues... She later comments that my son and other kids cry a lot (as I notably observed many many tears across all classrooms visited) since "he had never been away from family, going to school". I replied, you assumed and never asked me this!?. He in fact has been in US daycare for a year now!! We proceed to think our son would be mixed up in classes and his progress reports would be about other kids not actually about him!!!

We had a great experience at the First Academy Montessori East Campus. Our 2 year old daughter was…read moreat First academy for more than a year and we have never faced any problems. The teachers were very caring and responsive to all our concerns. We received quick responses for all our queries. We diligently received daily log books for the kid's daily activities including food intake and sleep quality. The teachers were always thoughtful and verbally gave us daily updates about the kid's day at the time of picking them off and were at the door while welcoming them in daily. Regular Instagram posts also gave us a peep into what the kids were doing on a daily basis. One major advantage is the cleanliness of the place. The Montessori is very clean and well maintained. We would definitely recommend First academy if you are staying in and around Cornell, Markham.

The teachers are patient and engaging. The principal Ms Lee is so hands on and friendly. She is always up for a chat no matter how busy she may be. Our YMS journey began several years ago since toddler class and now as my daughter graduates, I can…read moretruly appreciate all the amazing things YMS delivered upon. The teachers were not only supportive and communicative, but they would always be available for discussions or a bit of extra help outside of class hours. The classroom sizes were perfectly tailored to foster growth and discovery but also ensure personalized attention when necessary. The learning modules were innovative, original, and forward-thinking, creating such a positive learning experience. The YMS staff have always ensured my daughter was welcomed with open arms and hearts, a true testament to their caring nature, and I always felt they considered us as part of their own families. The teachers and their attention to detail were instrumental factors in expanding my daughter's willingness to learn, growth and maturity. They have built a strong foundation, nurtured confidence, engaged social skills, in a way that truly demonstrates how much they care. Although our time at YMS has come to a close, I may have shed a tear during the graduation ceremony, not only for how proud I felt, but also knowing it was time to say goodbye to an amazing family, and I will ensure to recommend to parents that truly want the best for their children to make sure to put YMS at the top of the list.

Gosh, where do I begin with talking about how amazing this school has been for me and my family…read more From the very start of enrolling our daughter Nadia and her whole staff have been wonderful, understanding kind and compassionate. Our daughter has gained such a fantastic foundation to grow on going into grade 1. It really felt like a big family and we are so sad to be moving on, but intent to visit as often as we can!

In my opinion, this school was an underwhelming experience that left me with underdeveloped…read morecritical thinking skills and struggling in high school. The school's French program was subpar for years after I graduated; I am unsure as to whether this has changed in recent years but when I went to the school, the teachers (we had a new one yearly) were unable to teach the material within the year. After I left the school, a friend of mine said that they were getting a new french teacher every term and that each one was just as unequipped to teach as the last. I struggled with French in high school and moved over to Spanish as a result. The school's music program caused me to develop bad habits that I only fixed in my later years of high school; my embouchure was awful (as my teacher had minimal knowledge of how to play my instrument) and the material we played was on par with "hot cross buns". They also required us to buy or rent (which was more expensive than buying in the medium term) the instrument we played; I ended up spending around $800 to play an instrument in primary school.. If I had not continued to play this instrument, this would have been a significant waste of money. The school prided itself on being a year ahead in science and two years ahead in math; this worked to my detriment as I became overconfident and barely passed math and sciences in high school. After I almost failed math and science in grade 7 (after moving to my new school), I lost all confidence and continued to do poorly. On top of this, I remember my science teacher telling us about the wonders of recycling. It has since been revealed that recycling was created by the plastics industry to give people the illusion that they had a way to avoid pollution due to plastic waste. Ever since China banned the importing of most plastics in 2017, Malaysia has taken up the burden of sorting our low-value plastics for pennies on the hour.. and this will is starting to stop as Malaysia has realized that being the world's dump is hurting their country. My point is that the teachers are uncritical and do very little research outside of creating their bare-bones curriculum. The teachers are used to children being as obedient and uncritical as them. They did not entertain any of our ideas and yelled at us when we did not fall in line. They did whatever was easiest and this included almost punishing me for allegedly pushing someone down the stairs, pinching someone on the back, and calling someone a nasty word within the span of a 30-minute lunch; I did not do any of this and if I had been more submissive, I would have been punished for actions I did not commit. When I was in high school, I posted a review similar to this one on their Facebook page. My parents told me that they were blackmailed into getting me to take the post down so I removed it. The main difference between that post and this post is that I did not claim anything to be my opinion.. (despite it being obvious that a Facebook review is an opinion). The teachers also have no problem with stealing and/or damaging the property of children (from what I saw). My friend's gummy art eraser (a $5 eraser) was thrown out because my teacher thought he had balled up his pencil shavings to create it. I had my tamogochi taken away and I only got it back when my mother yelled at the teacher the next day. These teachers do not care (in my opinion, as always); they want to do what is easiest and take home their meager salaries. This school is just a business.. nothing more. This has been an opinion piece.

This school was a very disappointing experience for our family. If you are considering spending…read moreyour hard-earned money on your child's education, I strongly recommend doing your research and exploring other options. From the administration to the owner (who is never around btw except when it's time to collect the cheques) to the classroom experience, we found the school to be poorly managed and felt that financial priorities often came before the quality of the children's educational experience. We enrolled our 2.5-year-old daughter in Junior Casa in January 2026 and ultimately withdrew her in June 2026. We brought our concern to their admin office, then to the principal and then to the owner who ultimately did nothing to address it. Prior to this, she attended a Montessori academy in Richmond Hill that we were very happy with. She was thriving there, progressing well, and genuinely enjoyed going to daycare every day. Unfortunately, our experience at this school was completely different. Our daughter had two Indian teachers who repeatedly complained that she was not engaging with them. I mean pointing the finger at a child when you are the adults is super insane. What concerned us was that this was completely inconsistent with her previous experience and development. After starting at this school, she began strongly resisting going to class and clearly did not enjoy her time there. We also spoke with other parents who shared similar experiences with their children not wanting to attend or struggling with their classroom experience. We were also disappointed with the condition of the facility. The classrooms appeared dirty, and much of the equipment looked outdated and poorly maintained. For the tuition being charged--approximately $1,200-$1,500 per month--we expected a much higher standard of cleanliness, care, and educational environment. Another concern was the frequency of PA days and potlucks, which can be particularly challenging for working parents who have to arrange additional time off. There seemed to be frequent potlucks as well, which left us questioning the necessity and frequency of these events. Finally, we were extremely disappointed with how our summer program deposit was handled. Our daughter did not attend the summer program, yet the school refused to return the deposit. Given the circumstances, we felt this was unfair and added to our overall frustration with the school. I would not recommend choosing a school based solely on its size or appearance. In our experience, the quality of management, classroom environment, and overall value were far more important--and unfortunately, we did not feel this school delivered. For the amount you are paying, I strongly recommend shopping around and visiting other Montessori schools before making a decision. Your child deserves an environment where they feel happy, supported, engaged, and excited to learn.
