Last week, I went to Oly Float for the first time. Wow! A long distance friend treated me. She got a gift certificate from her boss, so she went in her town on the same day! It was very cool. A bit hard to explain. But, I highly recommend giving it a try. It was clean and warm and felt so good. Once you turn off the light and you're just floating there...it's very peaceful. It took me a little while to relax, but as I listened to only the sound of my own heartbeat, I slowly released my day and worries and struggles. I processed the big and difficult parts of the past several months with ease. Then I began to float seamlessly into my future. I began to visualize words and colors and smells and tastes of my future, potential versions of me. Sounds a bit silly. But it was awesome. Give it a try! It's very cool! read more

I had been wanting to try Oly Float, and finally had an opportunity; I even combined it with a massage and I COULD NOT WAIT for my appointment! I did tons of research and knew what to (and what not to) expect. I'll take you through my experience; no every person has the same preferences or float experience. But other things can be put down to simple business etiquette. The waiting area was fine; luckily I saw a pamphlet on 'what to expect after your float' because no one offered it to me--er--after my float. Bathrooms were clean and roomy. Be aware that this is the only area with a mirror and dry space to put yourself back together after a float. Room temperature water is offered for a beverage. Ice water, or at least cold water, would have been so much better, especially after emerging from a stuffy, humid float room. The shower in the metal room is good; lots of hot water and plenty of water pressure. What kind of shampoo was that?? I wish I had used my own, but it's nice that they provided something. What I was NOT prepared for is the musty smell of the float room and tank. I get it; water = humidity + Epsom salt = STINK. But the smell, reminiscent of my grandma's cellar, kept me from doing those nice deep, in-through-the-nose/out-through-the-mouth meditative breaths during my float. I kept my mouth closed tight to avoid "tasting" the smell and spent the whole time basically panting through my nose to get enough air while avoiding the stench. If there can't be good fans or dehumidifiers in the float rooms, what about some ionizers? One of those fog-free mirrors would be a nice touch, too. The float itself was...m'eh. I didn't have high expectations about reaching a Theta state my very first time, but honestly I was bored and ready to get out. I gave it an honest shot, but it's not for me and I don't know that a subsequent float would help. That is no fault of Oly Float. Massage from Casey was okay. The massage seemed rushed and made me wonder if we were getting a late start. Casey asked about pressure and increased it per my request, and he focused on my sore spots. If I'd just had the massage, my rating would be a little higher, but unfortunately the massage gets lumped into my whole experience. When I was finished, I was escorted by Casey to the reception desk to check out. The waiting area was empty. There were two women standing behind the front counter. I was the only client. I don't know their names, so to make this easier, I'll call them Laverne and Shirley. Laverne was on my left, about 36 inches from my face. She was standing, facing me, looking straight ahead at her computer monitor and typing like each keystroke was responsible for keeping the Titanic afloat. After a full minute she still hadn't acknowledged that I was standing there, so I coughed slightly. Clickety-clack goes the keyboard. Up stays the Titanic. This continues for SEVEN minutes!!! No exaggeration. Shirley made frequent awkward eye with me throughout all of this; she got up to stand in front of me, then sat down again, then got up, then went into the little back room behind the front desk, then came out and looked at me, then stood off to the side. She watched me put my bag up on the counter, stare at Laverne, check my phone, cough again, but she did not speak a word to me nor to Laverne. Why am I being ignored by both employees??? I am having hot flashes of shame and humiliation. Which girl do I check out with? Was my card already charged and I'm just supposed to leave? Do I walk out because it's been SEVEN FREAKING MINUTES and no one has acknowledged that I am a living person standing in front of them? I've never been here before, so am I missing something secret to the check out process? I have never felt so foolish and uncomfortable. My shy and quiet self finally spoke up, "Um, excuse me please? Is there an invoice or something...?" Still without looking at me, Laverne quits typing, looks at Shirley, and says sternly, "When I am focused, you have to ask me to step aside." I WAS STANDING RIGHT IN FRONT OF HER!! It felt like Laverne was using me as an example to punish Shirley for something. Shirley was so self-focused when Laverne walked away that she overcharged me, then I had to wait for her to correct the charge only to be asked how much I wanted to tip! I received no apology, no explanation, nothing to redeem my plummeting self-worth upon leaving. I upgraded my review to 2 stars before posting it because after reading the responses Dan has given to lower reviews, I don't think I have it in me to survive a reprimand for my 1 star. I'm still stinging from the invisibility treatment from yesterday. :( read more

This was my first time floating, and I am really glad I tried it. I can't say that I loved it initially, as my body had a hard time getting used to the water and laying there. However I will say that when I left... I was more relaxed than ever! It helped that they have a post-float area to sit and get your bearings straight. In addition, the Oly Float staff was great... very thorough and welcoming. Can't wait to try it again in a different room and see if I can fall asleep. :) read more

Just what I needed! My arthritis has been flaring up and after a sleepless night due to pain, I called in sick to work and booked an appointment at Oly Float to see if the soak would reduce my pain and inflammation. From the moment I entered my tension started melting away - the front waiting area is peaceful and welcoming. The float was restful. It took me a bit of time to quiet my mind and relax, but I felt myself start to drift off to sleep after a bit. They turn on dim lights and play some music when your time is up so it's a transition back to the real world. Before I left I picked up a gift card for a colleague who I think would also benefit from a float. I see some mixed reviews here on Yelp and I have to say I was a bit shocked. I've been here four or five times and I've never had a bad experience. I've been in pain for days and tonight is the first night I can relax. My pain has subsided and the float was the only treatment I had today. I'm looking forward to a rest full sleep tonight! Note: When you book here you have the option of two float rooms, Metal or Wood. I recommend you try them both as they each have unique benefits. For me, I love the shower in the metal room so that's my favorite! read more

What a weird experience. Marred by equipment malfunction & light on when they should have been off, and lights off when they should have been on. I was in the "wood" float room and the antechamber light was burned out. There was a blue light on, so I was able to see enough to get to the tank, but not enough light to read any posted information. Instructed that music would waft me off to relaxation & then sensory deprivation for about 90 min, then music would come up to signal end of session So the music played, then stopped but two small lights in the tank stayed on for the whole float period. (Yes, I kept opening my eyes to check) Then about halfway through water starts gushing on. Eyes open & stinging salt bubbles in them. That stops as suddenly as it started, but the experience is pretty much shot. Realized that my jaw was locked in tension. After that I'm praying for the music to come on so this can be OVER. But oh by the way, now even the dim blue lights are out & I have no way to see to get out safely. Back through the tank to find a light switch in the tank so there is enough light to get shower & dress. I asked if the water jet business was a normal feature & turned out it happened to another float room too. I don't know if the other lucky floater had to navigate the shower in the dark as well. I have been floating since 1982 after watching the movie Altered States. Space Time Tanks in Chicago was where I began.SInce then I have floated in different places but I have found Oly Float to top them all. The staff are very attentive, friendly and knowledgeable, and the tanks are spacious and enhanced with color, sound and stars. Both the metal and wood rooms are well laid out, the lighting is perfectly set and the shower in the metal room is a nice buffer between floating and returning to the outside world. They also have an array of other services with Dan Larsen anchoring the space with intuitive and energy healing along with several massage therapists and an infrared sauna. Total body mind and spirit goodness!!! The prices are the best I have ever encountered making floating affordable to many who would not normally get the experience. Extremely relaxing, calming and peaceful environment as soon as you walk in the door. I was greeted with a warm and friendly smile from Jess and a transforming energy healing and cranio sacral therapy before enjoying a soak in the metal room. I opted for the music and dim starlit ceiling, although to be honest I couldn't see the stars. The float chamber is pitch black abd has a very warm damp musky smell so if you are claustrophobic or sensitve to damp smells, this may not be for you. However, if you enjoy soaking in the tub and wished you could float freely, without being confined to the small walls or shallow water, this is the place for you! I only lasted 45 minutes in there for my first time, but look forward to doing my next float again soon. read more

My husband and I had our 1st float a week ago. This place from the moment you step inside has a relaxed, calming atmosphere. My float was great. I confess to playing in the water for the 1st 15 minutes while the music was playing. Couldn't help it, I used to do water ballet....about 35 years ago...lol. I grew up with a pool, so my water baby personality came out. The water is skin temperature so you are not cold. Once the music was off, I found the button to turn off the pool light and started the actual float. What I found amazing is...normally my mind is full of a variety of thoughts, work, grand kids, book I write in my mind but never write...you see what I mean. HOWEVER during the float, my mind cleared, my body totally relaxed and my normal a wee bit too high blood pressure came down. I could hear my heart beating in the water and could hear my blood pressure dropping.. I would say that the float is as close as you can come to a return to the womb experience. A warm soothing comforting atmosphere, mostly no noise except the water lapping at around you if you decide to push off against the walls with your toes. I could hear very occasionally sounds outside, but they are very muted. My skin coming out was very soft for about a week, my muscles relaxed, slept like a baby. We did our float in the evening so we could go home and go to bed. Had the best sleep in years. Will be going back very soon. read more

I've been here for a float, which was awesome. Today I tried the infrared sauna for the first time. Wow! It was excellent too. Very relaxing. You have complete control of the experience using a touch pad while in the sauna. I listened to Pandora on headphones during the sauna! Oly Float is a very clean place. Previously, I floated for relaxation. A week ago, however, I got in a car accident and suffered a concussion. My head ached terribly, and felt full and swollen. It was awful. I did 2 sessions at OlyFloat (90 mins each), one followed by sauna, the other by craniosacral therapy by Mandy Zabohne. After the sessions, I could hardly believe how much better I felt. Clear headed, less pain, better circulation. I am a firm believer that floating is excellent for concussions and TBI, and can accelerate the healing process. I was able to return to work after only 3 days. One week post-concussion: I feel great! read more

I have now been to Oly Float for float therapy twice and it has definitely been a life changing experience. The atmosphere is warm and inviting. The staff is friendly and extremely knowledgeable. I'll admit, I was a bit anxious to try it out. The idea of being shut in a cavernous room full of water with only my mind to keep me occupied for 90 minutes sounded scary, but it wasn't like that at all. The float tanks are comfortable and you have the option to have music playing throughout the float, which was helpful, especially for my first time. I've definitely felt the physical and mental benefits of floating. The range of motion I am able to achieve in the tank, especially through my spine and neck is unbelievable. It takes a little getting used to, but once I was able to fully relax my body, it was easier to then relax my mind. The chance to relax my thoughts from the outside world, turn off my inner dialogue and just be present in the moment is such a gift, especially for a working mom. I would definitely recommend trying float therapy here and I will be coming back for more. P.S. If you can, try and book the Metal room. The shower in there is A-MAZ-ING! read more

This place is incredible! I've done float pods before in Seattle, but they all paled in comparison to this place. Something about floating in complete darkness of the metal room that created an intense out of body experience. I felt like I was floating in space amongst the stars of the constellation in the middle of the universe. I liked that they had coloring books and journals for you to write in as well in the lobby. When you first enter this place, you just feel a sense of calm and serene and know you will get taken care of. I also did the infrared sauna and that was pretty cool. I am looking forward to trying the other services next time and would highly recommend to anyone in the Olympia area. read more

I love this place! It's such a treat. Always super friendly people at the front desk, and the space is clean and calming. Lots of beautiful salt lamps, good books and tea for you to have while you wait or after your service. I find that a float is as relaxing as a massage for me. It takes a little while to unwind and get myself to just float, but once I do I got into a little blissful trance. I always sleep so well the night of a float. A wonderful break from noise and screens, where you are just in your own head. I have a float ritual where I will just try to think of all the things I am grateful for until I space out entirely. Eventually, gentle music begins letting you know it's time to wrap it up. My tips for floating are: bring a hair brush. They have shampoo and conditioner but you'll need a brush and your favorite detangler perhaps. Definitely wear ear plugs to keep water out of your ears while floating. I was nervous about trying isolation therapy; I really thought it was going to be kind of an uncomfortably "zen" sort of place that had the guilty silence of a library with lavender everywhere, but after my first visit to Oly Float, I'm ready to do it again! The facility was clean and well-kept (and mostly scent free); the staff was very polite and knowledgeable, and the man at the desk sat down with me and talked me through the whole process before he showed me where I would be spending the next hour or so. I reserved the Metal Room (each of the four rooms is named after an element) and it was wonderful: heated floors with a steam shower I would like to live inside. Once you shower, you step inside the float tank and find yourself in a warm, shallow (10 inches deep) pool of saltwater. It's dark but not tremendously intimidating, though if you're at all neurotic, you may find yourself thinking of all kinds of strange scenarios that might have put you in there. There are, however, small, unobtrusive star lights in the ceiling that you can choose to have on the whole time, if you wish. I did not, but I feel I would have been a little more at ease if they were left on. I read on their FAQ page that you can play music during your session, but I didn't try that out. It takes a bit to get comfortable, but I've not been as relaxed as I was while in the float tank in a long while. A friend of mine said she spent half the time feeling like an alligator waiting for a meal and the other half was spent moving around because it felt so strange floating like that. In sum, it's a weird feeling, but it's pretty great however you decide to take it. I encourage anyone who is curious about Oly Float to definitely give it a shot. Their website's FAQ page has most of the information I needed to prepare myself for the experience, but the staff will happily fill in any blanks for you. I'm looking forward to going again and scheduling an hour massage from one of their two massage therapists on staff after my float. But really, that shower is enough to get me to go back. read more

This place is simply amazing... no words could describe the magic I experienced here. I did a 90 minute float, and it was like being in the womb again. I had no connection to my body, i couldn't feel my hands, arms, legs, etc. I was in complete relaxation and euphoria. The moment I laid down, ALL the pressure in my spine and in my whole body went away immediately. I was able to slip into a deep meditation and come outside of myself disconnected to my body, the material world, and my racing mind, where i was just my True Self, my spirit and soul, where time did not exist and all my worries faded away. After my float I also did a 60 minute massage, which was an AMAZING compliment to the float, to help keep my mind in a euphoric state.
