I've been a loyal member of the Alamo City Golf Trail for years, but I've finally had enough. Olmos Basin--like so many of the other courses on the trail--has become a major letdown. This was one of the courses they shut down for an extended period to do major renovations, but it proves that it doesn't matter how much money you spend if you're just going to immediately neglect the course afterward. The greens might as well be cow pastures, the bunkers are a joke, and drainage issues make large sections unplayable after any rain. It's painfully clear there's no real commitment to long-term upkeep. What's even more frustrating is the attitude from leadership. Ruben Caraveo, a key figure in the organization, doesn't respond to criticism with professionalism--he argues with golfers on social media and blocks those who dare to speak out about the conditions. That kind of arrogance trickles down and reflects the entire culture at Alamo City Golf Trail. Olmos could be a true gem, but it's being squandered by mismanagement and ego. Until leadership is willing to take accountability and actually listen to the players who keep these courses alive, nothing will change. Golfers deserve better. read more

Played a round on 6.9.25 and course was in pretty good shape. Tee boxes were exceptional and greens were lightly sanded causing very slow roll. Don't listen to the latest negative review as this course is a gem. Very cool layout and friendly employees. Yes, there are a few areas on fairways that are dirt or light grass, but its a public course and it still plays well. I still think Northern Hills and Cedar Creek are the best on the trail, but Olmos is pretty high up there. Go play it. read more

Friends, I have been a golfer for at least a quarter of a century, and have traveled over the States, South of the Border, and to Europe to enjoy golf in as varied a local as one might find. I have played some upper crust courses, and some humble muni courses, and have enjoyed the latter as much as the former, given the excellent labours of the staff and the grounds crews. Here, in San Antonio, I am a definite fan of two Alamo City golf Trail courses, the time honored Brackenridge course, and the Cedar Creek Course. But among the courses that holds an especially low place in the horror house of horrible courses is found: Olmos Basin Golf Course Course. We booked a tee time yesterday, greeted by the super friendly pro in the nicely renovated club house, and sent off the first tee by an equally friendly marshall. We were anxious to play the course, given the recent news that major renovations had been delivered to this muni. But off the tee, the sadness begins. This is the tail of the winter season in our Alamo City, and one cannot reasonably expect pristine course conditions. But in truth, here is what the golfer can expect if you play in the near future. The fairways are almost completely devoid of any grass, not even dormant grass. We are talking bare turf....dirt...on most fairways. Many of the fairways displayed muddy, almost quagmire areas, yet adjacent areas of dry turf. We surmised that perhaps the course was criminally over watered, not a consequence of recent rain. (I called the pro shop the morning of our tee time, and was informed that there was in fact NO RAIN in recent days!) Much worse, the greens were nothing less than surfaced dirt, smoothed and packed dirt, absent any grass, and painted with what appeared to be green spray paint. For our experienced group, the consensus is that this course suffers with the worse conditioning that we have EVER played, ANYWHERE. But not to be completely "Debbie Downer", there are redeeming factors. The greens have been reconstructed with significant contours and breaks that we found on many upper tier golf courses...I speak of courses like Pebble Beach, Pinehurst, Bandon Dunes, Kiawah Island! Yes, given proper care, these greens could be truly phenomenal...and fairly challenging! Woe to the golfer that might find himself short sided on his approach shot. Kudos to the course architect! Bunkering around the course was wisely and fairly placed, with sand that was tended with fluffy, sugary granules. Some of the bunkers, greenside and fairway, were deep and steep, challenging any golfer whose dimpled ball should find itself so placed. So golfing Yelpers, I have to advise against Olmos Basin Golf Course at this time. Perhaps better course tending will be found during the later spring and early summer, as the issues with the greens and fairways cannot improve within a few weeks. Of the Alamo Golf Trail, a better choice may be Brackenridge, maybe Cedar Creek. And remember, there are several excellent private courses here in San Antonio. Hit 'em straight, and not too many times during your round Yelpers!! read more

This place has gone down hill and fast. For a course that was recently renovated and injected with millions of taxpayer money, it's a shame how poorly it is maintained. This course along with most if not all of the ACGT courses are not worth playing. The greens and fairways are not maintained properly and that staff should be reviewed if not fired for their efforts. Someone should really hold the non profit ACGT accountable. Where's all the money going bc it's not going into these courses. I will not be back to play here. read more

Hoping to have fun at this course? Keep hoping. I have played almost every course in the San Antonio area, including all the Alamo Trail courses. By far, this is the worst one. The wear and tear is so apparent, that the course is impossible to enjoy. I'll run it down. Tee boxes: Fine, mostly grass, quite a bit of mud around (depending on day) Fairways: Can hardly call them fairways, ultra dry and stiff even after rain, so don't expect a good result when trying to compress the ball. There's no grass, if there is, it's dead. I've only seen a few patches of alive grass throughout the whole course. Many parts of the fairways will also be muddy or rocky. I'd prefer being in the rough over the fairway so I could get a decent lie. Sand/Bunkers: Not bad, they are in much better condition comparing to the rest of the course, it's the only thing decent. Hazards/water: Yikes, they look awful, covered in trash. There's more playable grass surrounding the hazards than the fairways. Greens: Green? Brown. Straight mud for most of them. Some may have small patches of grass. Overall, just don't come at the moment, or over the coming months. They have so many players and it seems like they barely maintain this course at all. I'm really hoping they clean this place up and hopefully get more staff to maintain the place. read more

No one who works there seems to want to do their job. If you ask them something, they reply with some posh/pretentious remark. My buddy signed up for 9 holes, the red/curly haired guy said my party paid for 18 holes. I obliged and paid for 18. Later, when they were picking up the flags, they said we had paid for 9 holes. Their employees don't even get along with each other. I've been to this place before they did all the remodeling and they have been consistently awful. Thought I'd give it another chance, but it was the same thing. Also, there are sand traps literally on the green, so make sure you have a sand wedge. I get paid minimum wage and still have a better attitude than these people who seem to be picked out of a hat. read more

NEVER in my golf experience of 15 years or more have I been waiting on a tee box and had the clubhouse attendant come out to tell my group to pick up pace of play. Threesome of elderly men behind us called, unwitting to the fact groups were stacked in front of us. Clubhouse attendant woman had the audacity to come to my group, all trail members that play at a minimum once a week and tell us to pick up pace of play. Reconsidering my membership and the substantial support to the ACGT this morning after leaving off hole 7 tee. read more

This is my favorite of the municipal courses in San Antonio. They hosted a tournament I was a part of and thoroughly enjoyed it.

A Beautiful challenging tree-lined course. Very popular so expect long rounds on weekends and holidays. The course is very well maintained with a creek winding through and train track also dissects the course, while the train does not interfere with play an unexpected whistle can surprise. This course is long but can yield some good scores. It helps that most of the greens are pretty flat. The par 3s are long the par 5s can be reached for birdie opportunities. This course is very popular so expect to experience long rounds on weekends an holidays. Told me I couldn't it get off but there was nobody 3 holes ahead nor no one one waiting I was a single ready to play...it was a Monday!!!

Olmos Basin lives up to its name. It is a trash basin where all the garbage and debris from NW San Antonio are washed into the fairways during a heavy rainstorm and no one is cleaning up this mess. I recommend that nobody play here within a week of rainfall of an inch or more. They are in a floodplain and water is on all the fairways. There has been no mowing of weeds nor cutting of grass on this course. The cart paths are broken and need repair and there are huge potholes in the parking lot and between cart paths. The greens are all pitted and do not putt true or fast. The Fairways are weed covered and not mowed. The pace of play here is poor because there are no Rangers on the course. Maybe one of the guys in the pro shop could pull Ranger duty. This is easily one of the nastiest golf courses in the city and it is part of the Alamo Golf Trail. read more

I called to book a tee time on Sunday 9/22/19. I was asked to hold. For over six and a half minutes I waited. I could hear them talking about getting breakfast and other things. I kept calling out to them but to no avail. Finally I hung up and called a different course and booked a time. They need to be more attentive to their customers. Booked a 7 AM tee time and while it was early in the morning and the grounds were a little wet that was the least of my worries. The sand pits were the equivalent to a newly done baseball field so you couldn't even get a ball out it was so wet and dense. While we were playing there was also maintenance crew riding all around the whole time so it just was not quiet for any time I was there. The front 9 had good tee boxes until the back 9 came about. The tee boxes looked like they had just gotten torn up and they were absolutely atrocious. Hard and just complete dirt, which made it almost impossible to hit especially on the par 3's. Overall thought it was going to be a great experience since it was remodeled but came back just to have a horrible experience. read more

Beginners you should start here. That is, of course, after exhausting quite a few buckets of balls over the course of a few weeks at the driving range. Olmos Basin offers wide open fairways and low cut rough so wayward balls are easy to retrieve. After the initial shock of having to tee off in front of a starter and the foursomes gathering behind you, you should be fine. Olmos has it's fair share of hazards like ponds, creeks and a few cement culverts but the openness suits beginners well. As does the cheap greens fees. Just remember, you are not the next golfing wunderkind and you cannot hit the ball 300 yards. Just focus on hitting the ball, period. read more

A nice municipal golf course for both advanced and okay golfers. The cost to walk is in the low $20 on weekends, lower on weekdays. It is located right next to the quarry, 281, railroad tracks, soccer fields, and out door gun range. Part of what makes a real muni-course. Fairways: Relatively good, and wide open. Very fun for big hitters that might not always make it on the fairways. Greens: Relatively slow and easy to read. Its a really easy course to walk, so strap on your bag and go. read more

Please don't waste your time going to this course. You have so many options in SA go where they provide good customer service and value their customers. Today my fiancé was treated horribly and when he explained to the manager what really happened the manager was extremely disrespectful. I will be sharing this story with all my co-workers, friends, family and I will be sure to never recommend any of my guests to go to this course. read more

This course is in such bad condition, it is shameful. There is litter everywhere, and I mean everywhere, even in the fairways. There are water areas that have an abundance of trash, I feel sorry for the ducks, and turtles. I don't know how they survive, how do they swim around all the shopping carts that are in the ponds. They need to hire someone to pick up the trash. This course needs to be closed so it can be cleaned up. It is not a golf course, it is a huge trash can, sad to say. We left after 6 holes. read more

We liked the golf course but the customer service was horrible. My friend and I look pretty young and I could tell from our initial meeting with the girl at the front desk that they weren't thrilled about us being there. Then we get to hole 1 and are paired with another duo (which was fine) we're already being rushed to tee off when our tee time doesn't start for another 5 minutes. I'm somewhat new to golf and my friend was teaching me and I haven't been able to buy my own clubs yet, so we were using his clubs and after we had done our initial drives and drove out to out balls, the man that rushed us earlier drove up to us, furious that we were sharing a golf bag. I apologized that I couldn't afford my own and he drove off in disgust. (Just pointing out we were barely at our tee time at that point, also the other duo were 30 year old guys sharing a bag and the guy didn't say anything to them). He then came back again telling us we were playing too slow because apparently another group had accidentally teed off on the back 9 and he was trying to fix it by rushing us ahead. He never explained that to us and the quad behind us apologized for him. That would have been nice to have explained to us instead of the rude and off-putting employee who talked to us. We felt very unwelcomed and will not return. read more

$48+ for a beat up course that doesn't challenge you at all? Plenty of better options in the area.

The course is in the best shape that I've seen in a long time. I've been playing here over 25 years now and it looks great. Still one of the most challenging courses on the Alamo Golf trail. Keep up the good work. read more

Yay for spring break! I took my two juniors here today on a Monday and walked 18. Tee boxes were good, fairways were green, greens were firm, but some had lines on them like they were recently aerated. We started our round at 10:40 and it was like having the course to ourselves. It was also cold and misty. Lots of dog legs, and the creek crossings make this course interesting. Bathrooms were clean. There's was no drink cart, and I only found one ball washer at hole 17. There were some muddy areas and a few puddles due to recent rain. One maintenance guy was running a tractor along the creek bed right in front of our approach shot. He didn't even look up, so we waited till he was out of the ball flight path. It's was also very loud because of 281 traffic. There's no driving range to warm up, nor a hitting net. There's chipping and putting warm up greens. There is a lot of trash along the creek, and we saw a row of homes that lost their roofs to the tornado so that was sad. On the plus side, saw many turtles and fish in the creek. We'll probably go here again only because junior has a tournament here and needs to learn the course. read more

Very fairly priced and excellent. Absolutely the finest staff in both attitude and service. Was a pleasant golfing experience and will definitely come back every time in the area. While not a five star resort or PGA course, the efforts were next to top notch. Tee boxes and greens well kept. Fairways were "fair". Rough was....well rough! read more
