I've been a loyal member of the Alamo City Golf Trail for years, but I've finally had enough. Willow Springs--much like the other courses on the trail--has become a complete disappointment. The conditions are unacceptable: greens are inconsistent, fairways are poorly maintained, and there's a clear lack of investment or pride in the product being offered. But the worst part isn't even the conditions--it's the arrogance from the top. Ruben Caraveo, one of the higher-ups, doesn't just ignore constructive criticism from paying golfers--he actively argues with them on social media and even blocks those who dare to call out the Alamo City Golf Trail's failures. His behavior is unprofessional and speaks volumes about the overall culture of the organization. When leadership is this defensive and out of touch, it's no surprise the courses continue to decline. Golfers deserve better. If you can't take feedback and own the issues, maybe you're in the wrong business. read more

Greatest contribution I've ever seen Willow inn the last 40 years. This is what a Alamo Trails course should look like for the cost to play. I'm excited to see how or if the rest of the Alamo trails courses will follow. 85% of San Antonio residents golfer play the Alamo Trails. Finally feeling better about what San Antonio will offer to local golfer bs what other cities in Texas have to offer. Still need a beverage cart on 100 degree day. read more

I was charged 35.00 for parking for my grandson's elementary school field trip to the rodeo on the 11th. The sign clearly stated 20 for cash and 25.00 for card when I arrived . I called to dispute and explained I was charged 35.00 at 9:17 and that the price conveniently changed at 9:15 am... Now 10.00 is not gonna break me but I can only imagine how many other people they possibly over charged if you parked there make sure to check your bank statements! read more

This once-beautiful course is in a sad state of disrepair. Although my brothers and I have not played here in a while, it was beginning to look run-down when we last visited. This past time, the majority of the course's grass was overgrown, including the sand traps, and the greens were unputtable. They were surprisingly busy, which is probably because it is the only course in the vicinity. My brothers and I were speculating as to why the course appeared to be so difficult. We suspected they were about to sell the land so that it could be developed. Since there are not many golf courses in the area--as I mentioned earlier--this would be a loss for the county and the community. If the owner is trying to sell, Howard County ought to purchase it and turn it into a county course. And hire the top groundskeeper to restore the course to its former glory. read more

We played Willow Springs today. I'll preface my comments with I play Willow often, and generally like it. It's a challenging course with a good variety of holes. Now for the review. I played today 5/14. We had 2nd tee time and were a threesome. We are a very fast group who generally plays in under 3.5 hours. Closer to 3, usually. There was a 4-some ahead of us, for whom we waited EVERY shot. They kept looking at us but never waved us through. Not the course's fault but still made for a S-L-O-W round. Usually early weekday rounds are fast but not today. Of course, no marshals on the ACGT ever. As for the course: the fairways and tee boxes are in good shape. The sand was packed and flooded due to the recent rains. I guess that's not entirely the course's fault, but they did not have anyone out there working the traps, either. Now the greens: they were possibly in the worst shape I've ever seen...not just at Willow...anywhere. They were aerated and sanded last week but even worse...they had many bare spots that were like mini sand traps on the green. The greens were recovering slowly from the punching because they were in such poor shape to begin with. I'll think twice before making another tee time there until I hear the greens are playable (not even good: just playable). read more

Any day is a good day to golf. However the pace of play is an issue and some of the customers "old farts" mostly are very rude. They act as if they are on the senior tour and run the location. However the greens are amazing, grounds are fair and the breakfast tacos in the restaurant... awesome. If it wasn't for pace of play and rude customers... this been a 4-5 star. And I know you can't control attitudes but... still a bummer. The coarse is challenging as well! Lots of Doglegs! read more

I have a love/hate relationship with this course. I love it because it is a beautiful challanging course and I hate it because it is such a long course it kicks my ____ every round. The 2nd hole is 663 yards from the blue tees and 653 yards from the white tee. The 12th is another long hole and is 599 yards from the blue tees and 580 yards from the white tee. Willow Springs opened in 1923 and is one of the oldest courses in San Antonio. The course was redesigned in 1975. Willow Springs has played host to 10 Texas Open Championships 1927-1928 and 1941-1949. Extremely disappointed with the way their staff handled pace of play issues. We were on time, never had the group behind us waiting and kept getting told to pick up the pace (they had the wrong cart number) but since we were the group of women they just assumed we were the ones holding up pace of play. I had great memories of playing there when I was a teenager playing high school golf tournaments. All of which were soured by the poor treatment my group and I received for an overpriced round of golf. read more

Great course! 18 is a par 3 so Danny Kelly can't crumble to hard! Some challenging holes.

Best place to park for a Spurs game. Sometimes you pay a little more but the crew does not play around and ur out and down E Houston quick. Super cheap craft beer before games as well. read more

I was disappointed. I had good memories of Willow Springs from the late '80s through '05, but moved to Dallas where I think I may have been spoiled by the quality of the DFW area municipal courses. It was obvious that their greenskeeping budget is insufficient. 4" rough everywhere except what you can see from the clubhouse (3"). If I missed a fairway by a yard, it was a 50/50 chance I found my ball. If I missed by 5 yards it was as good as lost. Wise up, ACGT! These are munies. Amateurs play munies and after playing US Open rough, a lot of us won't return. The staff blamed the weather (a lot of rain). I didn't buy it. Dallas has also had a lot of rain, but you can see the top of your ball in the rough and the pace of play is good. Not so at the two ACGT courses I played this week. I won't be back. read more

Pro Shop and cart Marshall were the rudest I've ever encountered at a public golf course. Course was nice. If you are looking for a course to replace the Republic on the south side, you'll have a much better experience at Floresville or Pleasanton. I will not return to this course. read more

I'm actually a really big fan of playing willow springs. The only knock I have on this place is it's so far away. The greens are usually kept in good condition and it's pretty affordable. The staff is very friendly and try hard to get you on the course as quick as possible. read more
