**CAUTION** Don't go here! They charge you double for parking. If you don't pay the notice they send it to a collection agency. I have proof of my original parking transaction and still MADE me pay the collection fee almost 4 times the original amount. Rip Off!!! read more

Thank you for making our wedding amazing! Rio Plaza is a beautiful facility with several room options, among them a balcony overlooking the River and the architectural gem of the Nix Building.  Melanie was easy to work with, and she was accommodating to our ideas and offered her own suggestions that fixed/improved on our thoughts where needed.  The staff did an outstanding job setting up both their equipment the things that we'd brought, as well as easing delivery of outside things (DJ, florist, bakery, etc.).  The food was excellent -- wonderful, complex flavors, and plenty of it.  (If this is how the food is at Rita's on the River, I really need to have a meal there!) I was a little tense about the groom having no dressing area and only being able to arrive 30 minutes before the wedding.  (The bride could arrive an hour before and had a dressing space.)  Also, there was no designated parking for the wedding -- for the bride/groom, the bridal party, or for the guests -- which was unfortunate, but it turned out alright. Really, a great time was had by all!  The only change I'd suggest is somehow arranging for designated parking for at least the bride and groom in the adjoining public parking area to ease some of the pre- and post-wedding logistics; but as I said, it worked out and was wonderful. read more

Literally the best place to get married in San Antonio. The team there made everything so perfect and I just had to tell them my vision and they made it happen. Melanie kept everything on track and was a secret ninja in making things happen that night. The staff was so friendly and helpful and readily available. I recently attended a wedding reception here in May 2011. The reception began at around 6pm, it was a pretty hot day and the guest seating was all outside in the courtyard which had some shade coverage. Rio Plaza is located right off the river walk which unfortunately left easy access for wedding crashers. The organization and setup at Rio Plaza was pretty sad, when the wedding party arrived there was no designated table for the newly weds or a bridal party head table. It's almost like they forgot it. The tables overcrowded the entire space. The Buffet configuration also seemed to not be very well thought out, it could have been engineered way more efficiently to save space while also creating a quick flow through the line. I felt so bad for the Bride & Groom because this should have been a perfect day with nothing but sunshine & smooth sailing all the way. Every issue encountered could have been prevented with better planning by the staff at Rio Plaza. read more

Rio Plaza was absolutely the BEST venue for my Disco Birthday Party. Christine Blankenship, Coordinator at Rio Plaza was helpful, professional and efficient. Most importantly, she understood my vision for this milestone birthday party. Christine was also on top of all the deadlines and coordinating with the DJ, LED dance floor and lighting crew, the menu and bar. I took the decorations to Rio Plaza, explained what I desired and she accomplished it perfectly. I must not forget the Staff at my party. They were Awesome the whole night. My husbands and I had our baby shower in the Cielo Vista room @Rio Plaza in April. The food was great and the service was wonderful!! I have never experienced a more beautiful baby shower in my life. My guests loved the space, personal bartender, balcony area, and convenient parking. That was a perfect day for us. Rita's on the River is fabulous. We hosted a Welcome Reception in the Rio Room for 63 people for our son and daughter-in-law's wedding weekend. Melanie was a joy to work with through the process. She made herself available when I came for a visit in May to go over all of the details and even provided me with food samples from our chosen menu. The food was delicious! My husband's beer of choice is Natural Light(which is never found in a restaurant). Melanie made sure that it was one of the options. She also met us the afternoon prior to the event so that we could drop off some special decorations for the tables. Everything was then set up for us prior to our arrival on Friday evening. Anytime we are back in San Antonio we will come eat and drink at Rita's on the River. read more

My husband and I were married on the 4th floor (Las Leyendas) of Rio Plaza in October. The entire process leading up to the big day was extremely pain free! Melanie, our wedding coordinator, was very accommodating and understanding. She worked with us when we had to reschedule appointments and she made us feel comfortable every step of the way. She was great! The venue was decorated beautifully on the day of our wedding and everyone had a great time! Melanie and her staff did a wonderful job! If we had to do our wedding again, we'd still pick Rio Plaza. read more

Katie was so helpful and did an amazing job making our wedding reception a most wonderful memory. I highly recommend them. Let me first say, the venue is beautiful. We had a beautiful wedding. However, be very careful to read EVERYTHING. They have some very "back room" type business ethics. We got totally screwed on our final bill and did not receive everything that was promised. The coordinator Melanie was the worst about this. In our meetings, things were asked of her and the venue that she said "Were no problem". That NEVER happened and were not done as asked. When we contacted the venue with our concerns after the fact it took 2 weeks to get an answer out of someone, Traci. Who said that Melanie was not in a position to offer those things to begin with, but thanks for having your wedding here. No compensation offered, nothing. Good luck if you decide to have an event here. Like I said beautiful venue. NOT worth the headache of dealing with the staff. I sure hope the owners read reviews. Will not be doing business with them again. EVER. read more

We recently had our wedding at Rio Plaza, on the fourth floor. It was the perfect place for us. Absolute one stop shop! Once we decided on the menu and basic color scheme, Melanie handled everything else. It was fabulous to have someone totally set the place up and not have to spend my afternoon decorating and setting up. Melanie handled my last minute requests without any problems. We had 60 guests and since it was warm, they didn't filter outside as much as we had hoped so it was a little crowded. But it was beautiful! And I thought it was a good value as well. My only recommendation is to use a microphone. The noise from the Riverwalk overpowered our officiant and many had trouble hearing her. I recommend the place to anyone! read more

We had an outstanding event at the Rio Plaza! We rented the Rio Room for our party of 40 and it turned out great! The location was ideal from the Riverwalk, the décor and ambience was really fun for our celebration, the convenient bar in the room and the food was very good. The management really went out of their way to make sure we had a successful event. I definitely recommend the Rio Plaza for hosting an event. read more

We had our wedding here in March 2010 and I cannot recommend this facility based on the service/staff. The facility itself is beautiful and unique and they don't nickel and dime you like most wedding places, but the event manager who we initially loved and thought would take amazing care of us ended up almost ruining my wedding day. Our first few encounters with her were wonderful, she was so warm and nice and energetic. Our last meeting with her, however, which she totally forgot we had scheduled, started out very very bad. She was extremely grumpy and cold and snappy, presumably because we stopped her from leaving by showing up for our appointment with her. To her credit, she recovered after about 20 mins and gradually improved until by the end of the meeting, we loved her to death again. Unfortunately when I stepped out of the elevator for our wedding rehearsal, I saw her face and instantly knew the grumpy person was back and that's who we got right up until we left the wedding the next night. I emailed her to complain after the event and in her response, she rejected every point I had made and also said that she overheard my bridesmaids saying how difficult I was to please--in other words it was all me. My bridesmaids, who I can count on to be honest with me, have said that I was not a bridezilla at all, I rolled with the punches fairly well. Even if she was right about each complaint I made, the overall issue is that I expected to be dealing with pleasant people on my wedding day and if that had happened, I could have overlooked alot. Her moodiness made her difficult and uncomfortable to communicate with and really put a dark cloud over my day, so much so that I'm still struggling (2 weeks later) to think of my wedding with fondness. My wedding day was a HUGE deal to me, I had worked SO hard on it for 9 months, not to mention waited so many years for it, and it breaks my heart that I'm having to work so hard to get past her and have happy memories. My impression of her has been confirmed by several guests, it wasn't only the wedding party who noticed. She's been described as unfriendly, not easy to work with, snappy, rude and not helpful. Based on our initial dealings with her, I never would have imagined things turning out this way, she was a big part of the reason we booked there. Maybe that is adding to my disappointment, that I expected so much better. I would not recommend Rio Plaza to any bride at this point. I would hate for anyone else to encounter what I did. read more

I was so happy I chose to get married and have my reception here. I was originally going to get married at South Padre Island but it was getting too expensive not only for us but for our guests too. I called the event coordinator, Melanie, a few months away from my wedding date and was frantic that I had to start my planning completely over. Melanie held my hand and walked me through all the details and gave great suggestions that really made a difference with the decorations. I wanted an romantic, classy yet simple intimate wedding. Melanie helped me find venues and worked with me every step of the way (especially since I was already stressed and had no idea what I was doing). The ceremony and reception went without a hitch (that I was aware of, which is what counts) and all of my guests had a blast. Getting married here, I felt like I got a great deal because I had my own wedding planner that went above and beyond to make sure I was happy on my special day. My wedding was exactly what I wanted and envisioned thanks to the all the staff that made sure everything ran smoothly. I would recommend the Rio Plaza to anyone who plans to get get married downtown San Antonio. read more
