This place is so great. The only reason it's not wildly popular is that it's tucked in the back of a downtown movie/parking complex. Note that it's also not open on Sundays. Despite its location, the interior has lots of seating and has always been clean. The employees are also so nice, even when you stop in late at night. I once went after a Sak show with 12 people, and they handled all our orders very well. The chicken here is so well seasoned; that's my go-to for a make your own bowl. However, the gyro meat is great, too, if you want a wrap. Get a side of the spicy feta with pita bread...it's unreal. After seeing a few posts, I decided to come and check this place out for lunch. There was no one else when I arrived so service was immediate. I decided on trying an Olive Box with a side of baklava cheesecake. For the box, I ordered the beef shawarma with tabbouleh and hummus. After a few minutes, I was told that they were not prepared to serve the beef so I switched to gyro. Bummer. Overall the meal was very tasty and I felt as though I could have eaten two servings. Once thing I missed was that the gyro comes with tzaziki sauce but I would have much preferred the garlic sauce. Finally, the cheesecake. Super disappointed in the baba ganoush, pita bread and tabouleh salad. I was craving baba and based on the Yelp reviews and photos, I ordered from here. Baba is usually chunkier and this was smooth. Even if it was hummus, it was still very bland and adding salt did nothing for it. The pita bread had a bitter, burnt taste and the tabouleh salad looked old as the parsley leaves looked too wilted and dark. The tomatoes were kinda mushy too. This little place was a pleasant surprise. All the food I tried was great and at a great price point, especially compared to similar places in Orlando. I got the vegan delight plate and the olive box chicken shawarma plate. The vegan platter came with baba ghanoush, hummus, tabbouleh, and falafel. The falafel is the best I have had in Florida so far, I even had to get some to go when I was leaving! The Baba ghanoush is out of this world, paired perfectly with the tabbouleh salad! The vegan platter is a great option for anyone, so yummy! To be honest, I have had better shawarma, but theirs is good. I replaced the rice with spicy potatoes, which were good as well. The garlic sauce was made exactly as I like it, light and fluffy, and actually tastes like garlic. I also had to grab some baklava to go. It was so fresh and tasty, definitely recommend! But my chicken shawarma wrap was good and they crisped the wrap which was a nice touch. The Baba Ganoush was five star excellent-- smoky and delicious and as good as I've had anywhere. The fatoush was good--fresh but not super fresh--but it was delivered so that's a lot to expect. A little shorter on fresh veggies than I was hoping for, my gyro eating companions thought the meat was a little dry. But we were all glad for the meal and the shawarma had a nice flavor. Olives is such a hidden gem in downtown Orlando. I've been on the hunt for good falafel, hummus, and garlic sauce since Hubbly Bubbly's closing a while back, and Olives definitely fills the need. I was surprised with how long our order took to make on what seemed to be a slow Sunday night, the menu is confusing in how to order, and our to-go food was given to us in bowls covered in tin foil (no lids). I'm a huge fan of Greek and Mediterranean food, and I wanted to love Olives since it's right down the street, but this was a big miss. Upon entering, the building, I was immediately smacked in the face by the overbearing scent of pine sol and bleach. I understand the need for being clean, but this was throat-burning, eye-wateringly strong. If I hadn't been with a group, that would have been enough to make me leave. I stayed and ordered the falafel bowl, $15 turned into almost $20 with tax and tip, no drink, which is more than I care to spend for a chipotle-sized bowl... with no meat. After taking my food to go and leaving with a fresh scent-induced headache, I was hoping the food would justify the price. I got back to my desk and was underwhelmed opening the box. It was just some tomatoes and cucumbers tossed sloppily on a tiny bed of quinoa, and some dry falafel. Everything was bland, flavorless, and the thick skin on the unpeeled cucumbers was inedible. I ended up just eating the falafel with the sauces (the best part!) and throwing the rest away. Unfortunately all those misses and the high price isn't enough to make me come back. read more

Color me surprised when I came here to review Olives and found out it wasn't a chain restaurant. The professional logo and website, the clean modern architecture of the decor, and the well constructed menu led me to believe this was some franchise that had just started to branch out to Orlando. Apparently, they're not and that upped my initial 4 star rating to a 5. They're the real deal, folks. Olives is located beneath the Cobb movie theater downtown. This is prime real estate, in my opinion. Cobb is my preferred theater of choice, and I always try to grab a bite to eat nearby instead of paying too much for food from the movie theater. This is also a great spot to grab lunch for people who work downtown. Olives is a fast casual Mediterranean restaurant, so you kind of know the drill. Like other fast casual restaurants, you design your order, and it comes out to you freshly prepared within minutes. Think Chipotle but with a Mediterranean flair. Ever since the first Avengers movie, shawarma has been my go-to for Mediterranean food, and Olives did not disappoint in that department. I ordered a beef shawarma with a side of garbanzo salad. Orlando has a lot of great shawarma joints, but Olives really impressed me with the flavors found in their shawarma. It wasn't just sliced beef in a pita bread. They hook you up with extra sauce, veggies, and seasoning that make for a beautiful cuisine. Everything is made in house, so you're getting the freshest of the fresh. The garbanzo salad was the best I've had in a while because they nailed that sweet spot of flavor that I've found missing from competing restaurants. They have a variety of options on the menu. You can build your bowl, you could order a shawarma or gyro and customize it, and there is a plethora of sides you can choose from. All of it comes down to a very reasonable price. They're also vegetarian friendly which is a huge plus. I frequent the Cobb theater a lot for movies, and I'm going to start making Olives my food of choice before a movie. Even if you aren't in the area for a movie, Olives is still worth checking out if you love Mediterranean food because they do it extremely well. The food is great, you don't have to wait too long for your order, and the staff is very friendly. I truly hope Olives becomes a staple of the downtown movie theater district. I'm tired of grabbing slices of pizza and eating overpriced movie theater food, and Olives is a rock solid alternative to all of that. read more

This is a little Mediterranean lunch spot in downtown Orlando - generally Mediterranean is one of my favorite types of food and they are usually good with us gluten-free folks. When I asked around, someone said "it's greasy Greek food", but I disagree! I got a bowl to avoid bread, obviously. The chicken shawarma was my protein choice and there was so much chicken!! Also the bowl has all sorts of gluten-free grain & legume options. (Quinoa, lentils and chickpeas). There were also several fresh veggie options and olive salad (some pitted and some not - thought that was random) As for sauces, I always try tahini and tzatziki and both were pretty good. Note - their tzatziki was sour-cream based, vs yogurt (per the cashier), still tasted fresh and had the tangy tart flavor you want. Overall a good choice for lunch, you have to kinda hunt for it in the plaza tunnel, try it out! read more

An hour later, when the delivery driver came to pick up the order, this restaurant told them that they are not taking uber eats orders bc they're busy. 1 hour....this restaurant didn't even attempt to reach out and contact to let me know. What?!?! Who said this place could be so yummy and cute?! I will never disparage the Downtown eats ever again. Olives is tucked beneath the Downtown Orlando theatre - and across from Bento - and I have walked past at least 100 times. Today, I finally had the good sense to try a classic gyro with their seasoned fries and just Wow! Absolutely delicious food at a good price - including fountain drink with free refills. The location itself is very attractive and kudos to whoever is in charge of staffing because the young man at the counter took my order, delivered my food to my booth quickly, and checked once more to see how I liked my food. I loved the entire experience and easily recommend Olives. My one sorrow was they had my favorite Luzianne tea available here but after one sip, I switched to cola. Maybe check the mix because it was less than great. But overall, yes, I would certainly return to Olives. And, God, I hope they open a Popeye's nearby someday (lol). read more

Regular customer. Two times in a row they have messed up my order. Today they forgot my order and what they made when they finally decided to make it was the burnt scrapings from the pan under the spit. It tasted horrible...forgot onions, and barely any lettuce. Just an overall bad experience and wasted tip. Additionally, an "I'm sorry" for forgetting my order would have tempered my feelings on this. I got a falafel sandwich from here, with spicy potatoes and grape leaves. It was all pretty tasty. I got the sandwich as it comes and wouldn't change that. I had it delivered from a distance so it unfortunately wasn't on the spot fresh but still good. There was a bit of a wait for the person who picked it up, even though they said there was no one else there. I do consider mobile orders and delivery orders so I give some leeway for that. All that said, would I go out of my way for Olive's? Probably not. Would I go if I were in the area? Absolutely. So if you're near downtown and in the mood for Mediterranean food definitely check them out. When I do stop in next time, I'm gonna try the spinach pie and the baklava (not sure if I'll go with the cheesecake or traditional ) they both look delicious.
