I usually try and focus my reviews based on the region that a restaurant is in. In Graham, there is not a plethora of dining options of a high standard so a 3 star rating here may be akin to a 2 star in Tacoma or a 1 star in Seattle. I take a lunch break from work every Friday afternoon and try and find a new place to dine whenever possible. I stopped by Oliver's and found the interior to be clean, if not a bit spartan. There were a few other guests dining (3 or 4 perhaps), and someone standing at the counter waiting for whoever popped in next. (Surprise, its me!). The lady was friendly and offered help as I approached with a smile. I didn't ask what was best (but perhaps should have). Instead I ordered some cod fish and chips which seemed reasonably priced. After a short wait, the food was ready and I settled into eat. Overall, I was pretty disappointed by the food (if that was all I was rating on, I probably would give it a 2 star for the Graham area). The fish pieces were small, and had been deep friend to the point that the outer breading was hard and the interior was soggy with grease. The sweet tartar sauce didn't add much to the plate and the overall portions of the fries were a bit on the stingy side. I probably won't be back again unless someone else insists on going. It looks like chowder may be a safer bet, but if you're going to put Fish & Chips in your name, you probably should make great fish and chips. The place is on par with Amicis, but below Flying Tomato, Mekong Thai, and a couple of other restaurants close by for food in my book. read more

I was trying to find a good seafood take out place for our Superbowl feast. It was between Oscars and Dukes. I chose Oscars cuz they had a dog for their mascot. So glad I did! After hearing the wonderful story of how they rescued Oscar from the side of the road and that he was a wiener dog (I have two) I was pretty much sold. ...and then came the food...man oh man...excellent clam chowder!!! Fish, scallops AND clam strips were all fantastic!!! We got a little bit of everything for our super bowl Sunday feast. We are now solid fans of Oscars and will most definitely be back!!! read more

My wife mentioned this place to me and asked if we could go. We went yesterday and not knowing what we were in for asked two 3 piece fish meals and one popcorn shrimp to share. WOW! We ordered expecting the same amount of food we usually get at another restaurant but was surprised to see so much food. The fish portions were large, seasoned nicely and crunchy. The french fries are crunchy also. I tried the chipotle tartar sauce and it was exquisite. Their coleslaw was the best I have had ever and its because they use chopped pineapple in the mix. Popcorn shrimp were tasty and they went first. As we usually do, we had some to take home for another meal. People, this fish and fry's came back to near restaurant level status in a toaster oven. 9 minutes at 375 degrees and it will be almost like they set it down in front of you. IMO other fish and chips don't come back like this. Wait staff extremely nice and helpful. Place is nice to sit and eat but it is a smaller restaurant. read more

I've eaten at this place many times since it opened. The batter on the fish is always good and on the crispier side, with a unique flavor to it. The fries are extremely tasty, and are the perfect compliment to the fish. Both the Cod and the Halibut are great choices, with Halibut costing a bit more, as expected. The fish tacos are excellent as well, quite a flavor sensation going on. The chipotle tartar is a nice twist, and goes good with fish or fries. The chowder is better than any chain restaurant fare, maybe not quite earning the "best" I've ever had, but certainly much better than average, and definitely in the top 5 of my favorite chowders ever. The food is generously portioned, and we always leave satisfied to stuffed. We even call ahead for takeout and bring it home for the family to enjoy. I agree, the location is not the best, but it's a nice clean place, and we hope they "make it"! I know a lot of non-fish eaters that have been introduced to this place and wholeheartedly enjoyed it and support Oliver's. I'm not sure what happened 2 weeks ago to some of the naysayers on Yelp, maybe oil was too hot, maybe something was off. If I could give this place negative stars, I would. I never write reviews but felt compelled to do so here because the current reviews are either for a different Oliver's fish and chips, or these people have never had fish and chips before. First huge disappointment was the fact that they were out of fried oysters. We literally drove from Seattle to eat at this place because gramma wanted fried oysters for her birthday. This place had them, I even called in advance to make sure it was a staple on their menu. Coupled with incredible reviews, it seemed like a win win....so we thought. They tell us they ran out of fried oysters and my 89 year old grandmother is extremely disappointed. They said they were sorry, but that was pretty much it. I'm thinking some free chowder for gramma would have been a nice gesture after we spent $75 and drove for hours to visit their establishment....specifically so gramma could have fried oysters for her birthday. Then the food came. What a joke. The only edible thing I could fill my tummy with was the fries. The tarter sauce was sweet and had no other flavors whatsoever and the cod was as bland as a piece of cardboard. It was crispy, and cooked ok. Lots of oil. There was just no flavor whatsoever. I went home and filled up on cereral. I love fish and chips but I will never eat at Oliver's ever again. I am half tempted to dispute the charge on my credit card. The establishment decor and set up is fast food, but the prices are not. The seafood feast comes with your choice of three main items (cod, clams, oysters, prawns and scallops) with fries. The cod was burnt with very little fish to found between the layers of batter. The prawns was greasy, so you could not taste the shellfish. The small portion of 'shoestring' style potatoes was not worth much mention (potatoes are cheap). The oysters were still decent, but crunchy... We also each had a cup of chowder (can you say overpriced) salty but smooth. And to top it off we had H2O. The grand total of our meal $32.96. I am glad we did not bring the kids or we would be broke. Not a place I will recommend due to poor good quality, preparation process and high prices. read more

We have always loved Oliver's Fish and Chips! We usually get their Southwest Style Fish Tacos and sub the cod for halibut instead. We also add the bacon to the tacos! It's so good! I am definitely a fan of their dill tartar sauce, I usually get it to dip my fries in. I would recommend trying this place! read more

Disappointing given the glowing reviews. The place is nice and clean, the service was prompt and courteous, pricing was on par with other fish and chips places, but the food was low grade. The breading was fried too long, and the result was a really crisp shell around really oily fish. When I broke my fish open the oil poured out and pooled on on the paper liner of the basket. The breading was bland, and lacked seasoning. The fish seemed to be a good quality, but the way it was cooked did it no service. They offer a house made tarter, which some people may like, it is the sweet style. I don't care for it. We noticed after we were done eating that they also offered a dill and I believe a chipotle style tarter as well, wish we would have know that earlier. The clam chowder was OK, but very pasty. The consistency was unusual in that it was almost like a runny frosting rather than a traditional clam chowder. I would not eat here again, and would not recommend it to others. I am not sure if we were just unlucky and came on a bad day, and I typically will give a restaurant a second chance, especially if there are overwhelmingly positive reviews, but because this place is so far out of they way I doubt I will be back, so my first experience will be my only experience to review. I am honestly surprise by the reviews, specifically the ones that called this place out as being better than Ivar's... Ivars is passable, not the best, but I would never rank this place anywhere near Ivars as far as taste and quality of the product. read more

Save your money and drive down to skippers. We got the lunch special and WOW were we disappointed. The fish was over cooked, the clam chowder was like a paste and little to no flavor. We went in to get fish and chips. You can get halibut cod or salmon. The halibut is much pricier than cod but we ordered it since we have never had it in fish and chips. We also got clam chowder. The chowder was a thick version of new england style it was very tasty with big chunks of clams. Well worth $4 price for cup. Fish was good quality. High quality fish prepared perfectly. My husband and I ordered takeout from here...I think he ordered the halibut and I ordered the fried oysters. We also ordered clam strips and fries. When we got home, we noticed that my husband had received fried salmon instead of halibut. But it was cooked wonderfully so he was happy to keep it. The fried oysters are a different story. The oyster was really mushy and there wasn't much breading on them. And they were incredibly small. I wouldn't order them again. An overall decent experience. We all got the special for $5.99 1piece of cod, fries and 8oz of freshly made clam chowder. Chowder was flavorful and creamy, cod was nicely fried and I loved their fries. My husband and I enjoyed our first trip to Olivers. Im currently without a voice, so hubby ordered for both of us. He ordered "2 - 3 pc cod and chips, and 2 cups of chowder". The chowder came out and was absolutely delicious! I love a good chowder, and I already cant wait to come back for more. After that, our meals were delivered. They brought out one two piece and one three piece. We checked our receipt, and sure enough thats how they had rung us up. Just a misunderstanding so no big deal. The fish was delicious. Fresh, hot, moist... yummy! I enjoyed the batter, which was more of a panko type crispy batter, than a beer batter (which means it stays crispy too). The homemade tarter sauce was great, and the fries were nice and crispy (which is just how I like my fries) though hubby likes fries a little less done, so he thought they were over done. Surprised. This little hidden location for a local owned fish restaurant. I had their lunch special, 1 piece cod, chowder and fries for $6. The other lunch special was a fish taco and fries for same price. Fish was really good, nice and firm and good breading. Chowder was good too. Took my 94 year old Mother for excellent fish and chips on a Sunday early afternoon(her favorite food). It is all to-go as per regulations. It was cooked fresh after we ordered. So good! We ordered 3 of the 3 piece cod and chips and a Mac and cheese bites kids meal. All of it was great and it was all made to order so it was super hot and crispy. The fish was great quality and a good size. The only complaint I would have is that there was an odd spice somewhere in either the batter or the tarter sauce. I couldn't figure out which one, lol. And I'm pretty sure it was cinnamon. Not bad, just odd. The store was clean and the staff was friendly. Its a little shop so there is not much seating but it clears out fast, so if there isn't a seat available just wait a couple minutes. Great little joint in Graham's Town Center. Clean and inviting restaurant boasting fried fish baskets, salads, chowder and fish tacos. Friends and I tried all of the above and were very impressed. Fish was excellent, not overly breaded. Fries were crispy and tasty. Caesar was a little over-dressed, but I'm picky. Chowder was very thick and creamy, and tartar sauce is excellent. The real winner however, was probably the fish tacos ordered with a side of pineapple coleslaw. Fish inside the tacos was very tasty, served with cilantro and lime in a grilled tortilla.
