I had such a fun time olive oil tasting at Olive Hill Farm's tasting room in downtown Los Olivos! There were so many different flavors, and when I asked our host for the most popular tasting options, I was surprised to hear they were blood orange and cranberry pear. I tried both, and then also sampled some savory options as that's what I was looking for. My favorite local oil was the savory garlic olive oil and for the imported option, the truffle oil was amazing. I did not like the sundried tomato olive oil and was surprised to read that canola oil and sunflower oil were ingredients. While tasting, my boyfriend and I noticed they offered ice cream topped with oils and vinegar. Intrigued, we ordered the chocolate ice cream with blood orange oil and chocolate balsamic. We hadn't really liked the blood orange oil with bread, but wow was it an amazing combo with ice cream! Overall, a great spot in Los Olivos that does not involve wine drinking and we appreciate that it was dog friendly. read more

I had about an hour before my friends were going to meet me for lunch nearby so I went and did an olive oil tasting. The young lady that helped me was supremely knowledgeable about all things olive oil. She paired each olive oil with a vinegar and served it with a basket of soft, yummy bread. I devoured every single olive oil and while I wanted to buy more than one, I decided to limit myself to my most favorite of all--the jalapeño infused olive oil. I highly recommend this place. Last week, after doing some wine tasting, we stopped in Los Olivos and found this gem. Taylor was amazing and set us up with an assortment of paired, flavored olive oil and vinegar samples. We ended up buying a few bottles because they were so tasty. . We also bought some awesome jarred lemon pickles. Im not a huge pickle fan, but in one week the jar was empty. Yrsterday, we ended up in Los Olivos for our 25th wedding anniversary as we celebrated with our kids, and always make a stop at this sweet little shop. Taylor was able to help us find the most delicious flavor combinations for our oil and vinegar tasting! Their shop always has other goodies that we love to bring home, and this time was no different... we came home with lemon pickles (seriously, so delicious and refreshing!) And pickled jalapeño and habanero onions! The recommendation from Taylor was to put them on avocado toast. Omg, put it on avocado toast... legit suggestion! Finally, we tried the vinegar beverage and decided to go on a limb, and we were so pleasantly surprised! (We had a pineapple one and also tried the raspberry vinegar drink as well, and all 5 of us liked different ones for different reasons.) But, I would be remiss to not mention the sweet mascot, Ray, their sweet dog who so patiently and politely lounge outside and was such a well behaved dog that he made me wonder if he was a service dog! He was great with little kids and other dogs as well. A perfect boy! As you can tell. Taylor made this an unforgettable experience in her store, and I can't say enough kind words about this store that we continually visit on our trips here. Hint: try the apricot vinegar and if you're feeling brave, pair it with the jalapeño oil! Either is stand alone delicious, but my goodness... those are our favorite oil/vinegar! Among our favorite balsamics are cranberry pear, honey ginger (makes a fantastic mignonette for oysters), fig and glazed onion. The glazed onion is THE best when drizzled along with basil oil on caprese salad made with garden fresh heirloom tomatoes. We literally eat that twice a day during tomato season! This place is becoming one of our regular destination spots when we go to Sycamore Mineral Springs Resort in SLO. We really enjoy the visit here every time, very friendly staff, cozy tasting room/store front, and delicious olive oils and balsamic vinegars. $5 tasting comes with a big piece of baguette for dipping in five cups of oils/vinegars. You can simply pick five items, or you can also try five "personal" blends of oil/vinegar. So the possibility is almost endless :-) I asked to taste "least grassy oil", "vinegar to go with that", "most unusual oil", "vinegars to mix with sparkling water". I wanted to purchase all but I took Nero Del Gallo Olive Oil (most unusual) and Cranberry Pear Balsamic Vinegar (to go with sparkling water and more). What a hidden gem in Downtown Los Olivos! They have DOZENS of different flavored olive oils and balsamics. I highly recommend doing a tasting, where you can select five olive oils or balsamic vinegars. The Honey Ginger is by far my favorite. It's great for salads or as a chicken marinade. They have fruit-infused, herb-infused, sweet, spicy ... you name it! If you don't find the flavor you're looking for here, it probably doesn't exist! read more

I'm a fan. Every time I come out to the area I try to stop by. It's a great little break from wine tasting and the oils and vinegars are tasty. Everyone I've had a tasting with were super friendly, informative, and helpful. My fave items are the 10 and 25 year aged balsamic. The habanero oil has a great kick but not overwhelming and the fruitiness of the pepper still comes out. They have a Spanish olive oily that was nice (buttery and lightly grassy). The lemongrass and the peach vinegars have a nice distinct flavors, fresh, with a smooth tang and not not overly sugary. They blood orange oil is bold but balanced and a slight bitterness (in a good way). I usually use them for salad dressing or dipping bread. We had used one of the sweeter fruit balsamic with ice cream and cake before, super good too. They say a bottle should be good for 2 years unopened or 8mt opened. After that the flavors could diminish, and of course with any oil the oil itself could get old. But I've been able to keep mine for longer, properly stored at home :) read more

During a bike ride through the Santa Ynez Valley, we had the pleasure of stopping at this quaint little store. While I use the word "little", the selection was anything but! My husband and I did a tasting of the olive oils and vinegars. We were allowed to choose anything we wanted and the proprietor, Taylor, gave us great suggestions when asked. She also did a wonderful job of pairing complementary things next to one another for our tasting. To make the experience great, we were brought warm slices of bread to use in the tastings. Once we were done, it was truly hard not to buy every item we tasted. We did buy several though, including the Tuscan olive oil and the strawberry vinegar. I also can't wait to open the Silver Dove olive oil we purchased. Funny enough, during this visit to wine country, we brought back more olive oil/vinegar than we did wine! read more

After seeing the 60 Minutes special on Olive Oil fraud, I can tell you I take purchasing any Olive Oil a lot more serious than I did a few months ago whether local grown or imported from Italy. We stopped in Olive Hill Farm since I was going easy on the wine tasting. This business is a wonderful example of how you can still have a lovely time in the area even if you aren't tasting lots of wine. Tastings are $5 for 5 selections of vinegars and oils of your choice. I've visited several other places that offer free tastings on all oils and vinegars so I'd have to say $1 a tasting seems to be a pretty hefty price tag for an area such as this where wine tastings are so reasonably priced compared to the Napa region. I also noticed they waived the couples tasting before us with purchase but did not with my purchase. Hmmm, did he think we had more money than they did or? In my opinion, if you're going to waive tasting fees for some and not for others it should be done discreetly. My boyfriend and I both went about this in an amateur fashion, selecting what we wanted vs pairing 5 and 5 as a couple visitors did arriving as we were wrapping up. We selected a wide variety to try but in the end, Chipotle is what I purchased to bring home. I love spicy and this one really impressed me. We also tried: Lemon, Basil, Pesto, Sun Dried Tomato, and Truffle. Basil was good, Lemon was too strong for my taste and the latter three a bit bland. I think we also tried Peach which was just ok. The raspberry 10 year reserve balsamic was delish for dessert and a lot thicker than the others. I tried the blueberry vinegar was tasty but didn't completely win me over and I love blueberries. I may return in the future. Customer service was fine but lacking in energy. A nice stop if you are in the Los Olivos area tasting. read more

We had family visiting from out of town and took them to the Olive Hill Farm store in Los Olivos and had an olive oil & balsamic vinegar tasting. It was so fun and tasty! We each chose 5 oils/vinegars and Malia brought out a lazy susan to us pairing the olive oils with the vinegars with some delicious bread for dipping. It was a wonderful experience! My boyfriend and I stopped by this place during our trip to Santa Ynez with friends. When our group saw the sign outside for olive oil tasting, we immediately decided to go in and take a look. It costs $3 for the olive oil tasting, which came with a piece of bread with a plentiful choice of 5 olive oils or balsamic vinegars. I chose the Garlic, Rosemary, Truffle, and Orange Blossom olive oils along with a Pinot Noir vinegar. I enjoyed the garlic and rosemary flavors, but the truffle was my favorite (and of course most expensive). I also tried the Habanero olive oil and a couple other flavors that my boyfriend and friends chose. I didn't go into the bar area, so I can't comment on that.
