We spent the morning posted up while our guide tried calling, but we didn't hear any gobbles. After not getting any responses for over an hour of daylight, I told the guide we should move locations or hike around. We hiked a bit and did come across some turkeys, but they spooked from far away (they seemed like very pressured birds), so we went back to the original spot to try to call them, but still no responses for an hour. So we drove to a new spot which ended up being on public land, where we sat for another hour with no gobbles being heard from anywhere. At 1030am the guide decided to give up and ended the hunt.

My experience the Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday following the 2019-2020 waterfowl opening weekend…read morewith Rich and Webfoot Outfitters was very disappointing; My hunting partner and I found out we would be hunting with a 'Guide' over some flooded fields with no dog and no blind (we had to use the ditch off of the road and across from the field/decoy spread - unfortunately with little cover and very exposed on a clear sunny day). I said 'Guide' above because Dave told us he was not being paid for his services because Rich had recruited him days before our hunt and Dave was not yet sure that he wanted work for Rich and Webfoot Outfitters. Recognizing the situation and our disappointment with the lack of cover/blind/dog, Dave did take the initiative to buy some fast grass, stakes, netting, zip ties, and buckets, so we could help him construct a blind on the levee road for our hunts on Tuesday and Wednesday, where we did manage to get a few birds, although we lost a greenhead in a ditch behind us, no more than 6 ft across, 3 ft deep, and 40 ft from our 'blind'. My hunting partner and I expressed our disappointment with the experience and lack of resources and Rich did apologize and offer us a 50% discount for a future hunt, which was kind of him.. This experience did teach us a lesson: we learned to ask specific questions when dealing with an outfitter, whether on the phone or at a show: 1 - are you the outfitter? 2 - will you be the guide for all of our hunts? 3 - do you have a trained and experienced dog the will be used for all of our hunts? If any answers are 'no' above, then I'll move onto another outfitter....If all of the answers above are 'yes', then ask: 4 - what style/type of permanent blinds will we be hunting? 5 - where will we be hunting (specific locations)? Good luck and good hunting! Rob Coulson
