I was looking to get my downstairs Berber carpeting replaced at my place in Tustin Ranch and did some online research to find a contractor. Needless to say there are some horror stories out there, particularly from some companies with heavy advertising. I found good things written about Old Town Flooring (including here) and decided to drop by their neat Old Town Tustin showroom. Mike the owner was in and I really liked his low key no pressure personality. I looked at some samples of Luxury Vinyl, picked a couple out to take home and scheduled a measure at my place. I got home and found some samples I liked better on Mannington's website and emailed Russ (the other owner) with the material codes, he said no problem I'll bring them when I measure. Russ came out and measured and we discussed material quality levels. I appreciate Russ steering me away from the lower level quality as it did not make sense for my application. I picked a wood sample and Russ emailed the bid to me the next day. I accepted the bid and went with Mannington's Timberton Luxury Vinyl Blond Oak. I cant comment on price because I did not solicit any other bids. I liked the whole vibe and style of the guys at Old Town and price was not a priority. I like the fact that their installers have been with them a long time (not subcontractors) and their portfolio of work shows some beautiful high end work. The installers were on time, nice guys and did a great job. They were carful with my furniture and existing tile. They finished up in the timeframe they quoted and made sure I was happy with furniture placement before they left. The flooring looks great and I know that if I had any issue they would come back and take care of it. Also, I love spending my money with local business people who have a stake in the work they do and know their business from years of experience. All around a great no pressure experience. read more

My wife and I were remodeling our new home. After months of research (brands, flooring types/designs, installation), my wife insisted that we get laminated wood that also comes in a FLUSH stair nose. This instantly narrowed our list of choices to just a few, good manufacturers: Quick Step and its parent, Mohawk. Apparently, flush stair-nose laminated wood is hard to find, and most floor sellers don't even know they exist. During the entire shopping process, we indicated to every vendor that we were going to install the laminated wood ourselves. We never installed flooring before. We visited a large number of vendors looking for the colors and designs my wife and I would both be able to compromise on. The first step is to choose what color you want. In the initial weeks, we absolutely had no idea what we wanted. My wife and I were at odds with one another -- she wanted something very dark. I wanted something very light or something with "pop". We looked at a LOT of manufacturers and colors. We were helped by Russ, a very knowledgeable and friendly man who indicated he was once an installer. Communication was great both in-person and over email. We were never pressured to buy, and Russ provided us with some great installation tips. We felt very welcome and in good hands. However, ultimately we decided to buy from Best Floor (Anaheim), because Old Town Flooring's prices were much higher. PROS - Friendly service by everyone - Knowledgeable staff - Some of the lowest prices for the laminated wood we looked at CONS - Highest prices among the 4 vendors we narrowed down to Because we didn't buy from Old Town, we cannot comment on service delivery/purchase process. However, we felt very good about Old Town in the area of pre-sales customer service, enough to write a positive review about. TIPS - Floor samples: most vendors take a deposit. Ask in writing, that it's refundable. There are stories about shoppers not getting their money back. Check the sample at home in day time and evening. Lighting changes how it looks in your home - Measure how much flooring you need. Add 7% as extra - Let your new wood sit in the rooms for 3 days to acclimate BEFORE installing - Installation: Yelp doesn't provide enough space to write about how to install, but we referenced manufacturer sites, YouTube videos, and importantly: flooring sellers. The staff are wonderfully helpful and follow up on requests promptly. We had new carpet installed on stairs and in hall/bedroom and it looks fantastic! We chose a burber that has a linear pattern, which concerned me since so few walls in our home are square. However, the installers managed to get the carpet laid in neat, straight, runs that make our home look lovely. A follow up call was made to fix a couple minor items, but again, Old Town carried out the fixes promptly and with professionalism. I recommend them highly! Thanks Mike, Greg, and Marge! read more

I really wanted to like this place but my experience was a nightmare. The initial consultation was good and I signed with them to install Marmoleum flooring in my kitchen, laundry room and two bathrooms. They said the install would take 3 days and they would contact me after they received the material to schedule the install. I paid a deposit and waited... and waited. A month and a half later I called to ask about the delay and lack of update. I was told that all of their installers had quit and that they were behind (big red flag). After a few more weeks they scheduled a crew from Victorville to install (red flag). I had asked the salesman to do the bathrooms in different stages so that there would be at least one toilet at all times. He assured me that would not be a problem. I mentioned the staging to the workers but they didn't follow it. There were two days with no toilets in the house. After the third day of work I noticed something in the bathtub drain; it was poop! The workers were using the tub as a toilet! They also were not done after 3 days and the workers were being pulled away to do other scheduled work while my house was un-finished. I called repeatedly over the next two days to get them to work at my house. After five days they called it done but there were lots of issues. Parts of the flooring were bubbling up, there were seams with gaps, seams that were not even and level. Over the next few months they would suddenly call and ask if the could come right then or the next morning to try a different glue or technique. I work full time so it was really inconvenient to take so much time off. Every time they came they were coming from another job and would track dirt and glue all over the house. After so many visits and the floor showing no signs of improvement I said I was done and I did not want to continue. The final time they were here they left heavy stone pieces all over the floor as weights with no instructions on how long they were to stay. It took 3 days for them to be picked up during which time the bathroom doors could not be shut and we had to constantly watch where we were walking to avoid stubbing our toes. In the end the floor looks terrible and I wasted a lot of time/money. I asked for my deposit back and I never heard from them. I contractors I have talked to say that the flooring will have to be removed to fix it. Needless to say, I do not recommend this company. read more

My wife and I decided to redo floors and bathrooms in our rental condo. We not only wanted great craftsmanship and materials, but wanted to begin the work ASAP so we could re-lease the place. AND, we were going to be out of the country for a month, so it was important to find people we trusted to do the work right, without any supervision. After spending a couple of hours with Russ, Mike and their crew at OTF, we left them a deposit, gave them the keys and took off for Mexico. Moreover, we didn't worry about the job in our absence! They were not only helpful in hardwood and tile selection, but project managed a couple of other contractors (for tub re-glazing and shower enclosure installation) to complete the job in our absence. Russ kept us advised every step of the way. We returned to find the remodel complete. It looks great and the detail work is perfect! I would not hesitate to use these professionals again. They did what they said they would do, did it well and finished on time. The tub and glass contractors Russ recommended and managed also did excellent work. The person I talked to told me that I would be wasting their time since they would be higher priced compared to my other bids because they have such high quality work. Little did she know that we make our choices based on quality and not always price. Old Town Flooring installed new carpet in my home about two years ago and did an amazing job. Last week, my housekeeper spilled Lysol Toilet Bowl cleaner on the carpet. The cleaner turned that beautiful patterned carpet (espresso color) light pink. Heartbroken and panicked, I went back to Old Town Flooring to see what they could do. They remembered me. They sent two installers out a few days later and they patched the carpet for me. When I saw their work, I actually blinked. It was like the spill never happened. Once again, the quality of the workmanship was excellent. I knew right when I walked in the door and met Russ that I had found who I was going to do business with. Russ was incredibly knowledgeable and took the time to help me land on exactly the right flooring for me and my budget. He helped me load the perfect size samples in my car which were so helpful to make my final decision. On install day, the exceptional workers were on time, professional, and answered every question I threw at them. It only took a day and a half to demo my tile, remove carpet and lay the most beautiful, high quality floors I could have ever dreamed of. Seriously, you have never seen more meticulous and in sync workers who knew exactly what they were doing and further took such pride in their work. They literally cleaned every plank after the floor was laid, leaving my beautiful new flooring worthy of a magazine cover! They even left my house as clean as it was when they arrived! Mike and Russ let me take home samples, come back, and take home different samples several times. They answered every question I had about the pros and cons of different carpets. When I realized I had picked something rather expensive, they helped me find a more affordable choice that was as nice if not nicer than my first pick. The installers were also amazing. We dealt mainly with Mike Flamme who was awesome and extremely knowledgeable. They didn't try to up-sell us because they are not on commission. This means they can honestly work with you to find the best product for your needs and budget! The installers are beyond incredible! They have worked with Mike for around 30 years, and they truly cared deeply about doing a good job and about taking care of all of our belongings. They are employees, not independent contractors, which makes a difference and that they have been with Mike that long also speaks volumes. They even hooked back up our big entertainment center which we didn't expect! We talked to several companies before deciding on Old Town Flooring. (Unbelievably, we had another carpet company say they would just carpet around our free-standing entertainment unit because it was too big.........) We bought a home and stopped in to their cute shop in old town Tustin. Right away they helped us "newbie" homeowners with explaining the basics of carpet. We got a quote from them on the carpet and also decided to have them replace the laminate flooring since the existing floors were do-it-yourself quality. OTF was very fair in pricing and was so helpful in getting us up to speed on what our house needed. They have a great selection and can work with any budget. We are super glad we went with them versus a random cheap solution since we know that the installation and product was top notch. They threw in free cleaning supplies for our new flooring, too. We had them work with other contractors that were updating our house and we really appreciated how flexible and understanding they were with our schedule.
