Quiche of the day and salad
Jules C.

I'm updating to four stars, because we dined "in" this past week and the food was very good. Much improved!

I was very pleasantly surprised with the quality of food and service at this small town café. Although the hours are limited, I will make an appointment to try to have lunch. On my way to Houston when time allows. This redfish dish was prepared with great care, and the green beans were cooked just right with the right amount of salt, pork and seasoning . Very adequate portion and reasonably priced a definite keeper.

In Orange, Texas, to visit family today. stopped by the Old Orange Café for lunch. Two members of the group had salads with grilled shrimp on top. The salads were super fresh, the shrimp was seasoned and grilled to perfection, and the salad dressings were out of sight. I highly recommend the white balsamic vinegar dressing! Another member has the Fiesta Burger, spicy heat for the "not faint of heart"... looked great and was reported as delicious! The real star of the lunch was my meal, the fish special of the day. The dish consisted of a very generous portion of redfish, which was blackened in a skillet, and served on a bed of perfectly cooked, wild rice, and topped with a spinach, crab and mushroom garlic cream sauce. OMG! Gastric Heaven! The fresh green beans on the side were sautéed with chunks of bacon and onions, and were a perfect pairing for the fish. The Old Orange Café is a 5 Star dining experience...

Wow, I had no idea what to expect and I can say I was very pleasantly surprised. I thought we were pulling up to an old warehouse and turns out it was OOCC! There was quite the lunch time crowd but we were seated rather quickly. I ordered the catch of the day with asparagus as my side. The red fish came on a bed of rice (which I would typically not touch) but after trying it, I found out it wasn't just any ordinary uncle bens! Unfortunately, I was too stuffed to try dessert but I will have to make another trip to check out their bread pudding! Looking forward to my return.

What's left of our bread pudding dessert. Haha

Heard about this place from coworkers. Came in for a job and found this place for lunch. Amazing stuff. Great service. Great food. Finished every last bit.

Hands down, best place to eat in Orange. The only thing I don't like about this place is that it's only open for lunch.

Very good food and service, only wish they served adult beverages. We went there for brunch and everyone in our party enjoy their meals.

A massive variety of seafood... I want to come back to try the other menu choices…read more The fish tacos were perfect and can be ordered blackened, grilled or fried. I chose a large order of the boiled shrimp appetizer and my husband ordered the fish tacos with charo beans. We shared and it was plenty of food (maybe too much) for lunch. The shrimp was clearly fresh but seasoned with a taste I didn't care for, however my husband liked it fine. I covered up the taste with cocktail sauce. It must be a local preference. Our server was the very best! She gave us great advice on what to order. She was friendly and attentive without being interrupting. Her name is Hillary and she is a real credit to the restaurant.

We gave it a shot when we first moved from the NASA area four years ago, so it was about time. I loved the fact they were open on Memorial Day, and they didn't seem to be too busy. Mostly golfers and their ilk. Our server was Kaitlyn, who was very fast. She reminded me of Mary Lou Retton. Very fast. Almost too fast? I asked a question about the amount of breading in the crab cake, and she said there was none. Seems unlikely, since crab cakes need a binder. I am intolerant of the gluten, so when she said the crab cakes had no binder, I was hesitant. I took the safe road and ordered the cucumber snacker and a boudin ball. My BF ordered a ribeye, and (because he thought he was super hungry), ordered chips and salsa as a starter. Kaitlyn brought out my wine and our chips and salsa straight away. The chips were very stale, the salsa was tasty but a little spicy for my taste. Everything arrived at our table at the same time, even though I ordered two apps as my meal. Kudos to Kaitlyn. The cucumbers were good, especially with the jalapeño ranch. No one can mess up a cucumber, but the jalapeño ranch was tasty. My boudin ball was meh. My BF ordered his ribeye medium temperature, and it arrived rare. Kaitlyn checked in on us a couple of minutes after the food arrived. He told her about the steak and she quickly whisked it away. ~5 minutes later, someone delivered the new steak. My BF enjoyed the new steak, baked potato and salad. When we visited four years ago, we felt rushed. I felt rushed this time as well. Obviously, Tia Juanita's is doing very well. You can't swing a rope without seeing another TJ's in SETX. It's probably just not our jam. I like a nice meal without feeling rushed. I also prefer to eat with a proper fork and knife. I would, however, like for the manager to respectfully respond to negative reviews. They seem to respond to positive reviews only.

I wanted to give this restaurant a second chance, but unfortunately I left disappointed again…read more On a previous visit, I ordered the shrimp basket. The shrimp had a strong fishy smell and taste that seemed off to me, so I ended up just eating the fries and leaving most of the shrimp. Today, we came back and ordered fried pickles and fried mushrooms as appetizers. The fried pickles were okay, but very tangy and nothing special. The mushrooms were the biggest disappointment. They were extremely watery inside, and every bite caused the breading to separate and fall off. I've had fried mushrooms before and understand they can have some moisture, but these were excessively watery. For my meal, I ordered the chicken fried steak with fries. It arrived without gravy, so I had to request it separately. They brought out a very generous portion, and the gravy itself was decent. Unfortunately, the chicken fried steak had similar issues to the mushrooms--the breading wouldn't stay attached to the meat, and the steak was very chewy. Overall, I'd rate the food around a 2/5. It wasn't inedible, but it wasn't enjoyable enough to make me want to come back. The restaurant itself is clean, attractive, and has a nice atmosphere, which was probably the highlight of the visit. On the drive home, I started feeling pretty nauseated. I'm not saying I got food poisoning, but the meal definitely didn't leave me feeling great. I really wanted to like this place and gave it another try, but after two disappointing experiences, I probably won't be returning.

Our server was a very nice young man and was doing his best. However there were two women there yelling and arguing with him at the register for at least 45 minutes. The server was alone, he was trying to call the manager and was sent to voice mail several times. He was harassed, people walked in and out because they couldn't get menus or orders in. Where is the manager??
