I ordered all of it and selected wheat toast. It was good and all gone. I also tasted the menudo and it was hot and seasoned well. He Had the coffee and I had the hot chocolate. I like his coffee better. Good meals at nice price. Plenty of parking in front and back. You seat yourself and they bring you the menus. Bathrooms are clean. They play music that mixes well with the restaurant. We drove 15 miles to eat here and it was worth it. read more

Oh wow! I love it when we find small diners that take pride in their food and service! I had steak omelet with potatoes. While it didn't really look like the pic in the menu, the taste made me not care at all. Was really good. Husband had American breakfast, real scrambled eggs, sausage, hash browns, pancakes. I could see the steam coming off the pancakes when she set them down. And the smell... OMG! Tasted and smelled so sweet and cake like! Waitress was really nice and fast and attentive just enough. Maria's is awesome!!!!!! I had the fiesta breakfast with eggs, bacon, potatoes and pancakes!! Every single bite of everything was amazing!!! My boyfriend had the carnitas plate (which surprisingly doesn't come with tortillas). It came with carnitas, rice, beans, guacamole and pico. Everything was sooooo good!!! Love love love this place. Went to lunch for my first time visit. This is the first Mexican restaurant I was not immediately served chips & salsa. I asked the waitress if they serve complimentary chips & salsa. She says Yes. I say, Well I'd like some please. I'm then asked what I want. I tell her I really need a menu. Get a menu. Figure out what I want. Order. They have about 20% of tables occupied. Takes over 10 minutes for food to arrive. Oh yeah, I'm told they don't have sweet tea. Got a tamale, chili rellano & taco w beans & rice. I feel bad to say this, but it wasn't any good. It's been 30 minutes since leaving and I have a moderate tummy ache. I don't have food poisoning but something is not agreeing with me. I'm that guy who eats everything and rarely gets a tummy ache. Maybe it's the breakfast meal that they are better at? Won't go back for lunch. read more

I was visiting port Arthur for work and was craving breakfast. I'm so glad I stopped here because Yelp had good reviews and I must say it exceeded my expectations. It is a hole in the wall place and run by a mom and pop but they are very nice and she always came over and asked if I wanted anything else. Let me start by saying I LOVE little hole-in-the-wall Mexican restaurants. I'm from Galveston where we have TONS. So when I came to groves to visit, I was excited to give Maria's a try. When I pulled in to the parking lot and saw the place was VERY busy, all I could think was that I found a great breakfast spot.... And then our waitress asked to take our order less than 2 minutes after we were seated. When we asked for a few more minutes to look at the menu, she disappeared for 10. We ordered, and requested chips and salsa with our meal (we were a little hungry). It took a while for our food to come out, but we weren't worried (good food can take some time). When our breakfast plates were dropped off, we still hadn't received the chips and salsa. The waitress asked if she could bring us anything else, and we requested the chips and salsa (again) and some red sauce. The red sauce never came. The food-dear Lord. First, the chips were COMPLETELY stale. The salsa was very mild, not even remotely spicy. I ordered huevos ala Mexicana (scrambled eggs with onions and peppers served with tortillas). The eggs were completely over cooked, both dry and chewy. Not to mention that it tasted like nothing. My boyfriend ordered chilequiles with steak, and one look at his steak you could tell something was wrong. It was grey-green. He took a bite and immediately spit it out, telling me that both the taste and texture were wrong. The chilequiles was coated in a thick red sauce, completely coated. The only part of the meal that was even remotely GOOD flavor wise was the salsa, and as far as salsa goes it was a failure. We paid for our food and then got breakfast elsewhere. If you're looking for fresh, traditional Mexican food, this is NOT the place. read more

This place has some good food and I really liked the hueros rancheros breakfast. Very reasonable prices. The food is home made. The only problem I had with this place is that they don't open when they say they do. I waited outside for them to open twice and I had to wait about an hour. So they advertise they open at 5:30 but I had to wait till 6:30 am to get inside. That's why I'm giving them less stars. But I do like the food. read more

My son and I were looking for a mom and pop type restaurant for breakfast. we definitely found a good one. It was really good! I do not know what type of syrup they have, but it is really good.
