I've always heard how good this place was but have actually never been until recently stopping in for lunch after taking my mother in law to the doctor appt nearby. We sat in the bar area. We ordered a queso for the table. The chips were generic but still alright, Queso was typical but tasty nonetheless. I ordered chicken quesadillas which were very good! I'd probably drive to Beaumont just for those alone! The service was friendly but I ordered water three times and never received it. It wasn't crowded yet the server did seem somewhat overwhelmed with the few larger tables she did have, so I didn't ask again. The atmosphere is that of a typical Mexican restaurant but does seem very clean from my perspective. I'd go again at least for a to-go order or lunch again as it wasn't overly crowded. We were there around 2 pm ish though so it may be busier during actual lunch hour. read more

The atmosphere is definitely what you would expect when entering an authentic Mexican restaurant which was pleasing. I came here after work with a group of 20 and was pleasantly surprised how easy they were able to accommodate us on a Friday afternoon. I ordered the PJ special which includes a beef and bean chalupa, crispy beef taco, and a beef burrito with queso. Aside from the beef burrito topped with queso, nothing striked me as special, hence the 3-star rating. I was very whelmed with my order despite hearing the rave reviews from my co-workers so maybe my expectations were too high. I did also order a pina coleda frozen margarita which was superb. The alcohol was not strong at all, and you could fully taste the pina coleda flavor. All in all, I do not think I will be visiting again on my own, unless my co-workers are. read more

The Restaurant is set up nicely. Other than that, it's about the only good thing about this Place. Hot sauce did not have even a hint of spice, cold Tomato's blended put in a bowl. It was a real bummer, I had not eaten anything at the time and wanted some good Mexican food, Since I was already in BMT, my brother said he had eaten at Elena's and I should try it, he said it was authentic Mexican Food, but Sadly It was not even close. I can't stand Casa OLE, and I would rate them better, than Elena's and that speaks Volumes. The service was the worse. I'm not sure if the poor service is common or not but the majority of servers seemed disjointed and confused. Several times I saw food coming out and being delivered to tables and pulled back due to some sorts of errors. The food is very basic so I suspect the chaos comes from poor management. read more

For starters, it's been at least 10 since ibeen to Elena's. The food was just the same as it had been for years. Food could have been a lot hotter, and the server could have told us what the special were before we ordered the for that way over priced for same stuff. The Elena's deluxe was 20 bucks too much. It used to be 11 bucks. Why so much of a prie jump? Then a friend of my had the Chimichanga That was $18. The chimichanga was actually really good and hot, but there again. Wish we'd known the specials that they had. And we would've got the supernachos along with quesadillas. Now we learn what to do on Taco Tuesday at Elena's. It is just sad we had to spend so much in a food that it was still the same. But the price was overrated for Elena's Deluxe. And the chimichanga beef Fajita. $18 just a bit high on prices. So after a long 12hr shift, sometimes getting tacos and a drink is GREAT!! But when you're tired, fresh tacos to go and some drinks at home will do it just justice!! And Elena's hit the spot, just like it ALWAYS DOES. I ordered their 1/2lb of steak fajitas to go. And trust me, it was the best decision one has ever made. The fajitas was fresh as can be, seasoned to the tender muscle, tortillas fresh like grandma made it herself, even the guacamole and the sides were fresh and delicious. Speaking of the sides; so it comes with a side of beans of your choice; but it does not come with rice. Ordering a side of rice was not expensive; like $2-3 for a "small" which lasted me for 3 rounds of taco for that day along with left overs. I recommend and I simply love this place. read more

Okay so, my boyfriend and I went to this place Tuesday. It was cheap and their $2 margaritas tasted like a lemon lime aid drink with salt on the rim. I tasted no alcohol. But ya know it is Texas. Anyway, the food was good! My boyfriend ordered some corn Tacos with shrimp and grilled onions. They were very good! I ordered a large order of Quesadillas which were $7.95 on Tuesday. And they allowed me to get half chicken and half beef. The beef was better than the chicken. Seasoned well, with great flavor and a good cheese balance. Full condiments (sour cream, guacamole, pico that was spicy, lettuce). It was loud so you can't have an intimate conversation there. I am an evacuee (if that's a word) from Hurricane Ida so I'm used to Superior Grill Margaritas (which after two you could be mixing your words together). But this was a nice change from the chains surrounding my hotel. Always for supporting local businesses. So in all don't go there to get ya drink on, food is good doe. read more

Elena's has the best fajitas I have ever head. This is a must visit anytime I come to the area. I cant comment on any of the other items, as I have always stuck with their fajitas, but I love this place. The beef and chicken fajitas are so well seasoned and tender. I have tried to find somewhere closer to my house that can come close, but none have been this good. Their rest of their menu is huge, and even picky eaters can find something they will like. They also have a good beer selection, including my favorite, Negra Modelo. One thing to know is that you pay your bill at the front. While paying your bill you can buy some Mexican cookies and candy. I have no use for them, but my family sure loves them. The neighborhood doesn't seem to be the best, but the food is worth the drive. read more

Went to Elena's to try something new. Husband ordered the cheese enchiladas and I ordered the PJ special. Tea was good, and my crunchy taco was good, but the chalupa shell on the chalupa was stale and chewy. The salsa was way too hot and watery. The cheese enchiladas were not good at all. The enchilada sauce was very bland and the cheese was like a mix between American cheese and velveeta. Would never recommend this place to anyone and not sure why it has the amount of stars it has. read more

I've been working in the area for several months now and usually I eat at the hotel. Last night I decided to venture out and try something new so I ordered from Elena's and took it back to my hotel- best decision ever. I ordered the steak and chicken fajitas meal and it was amazing. The meat was tender and perfectly seasoned as were the onions and peppers. The pico de gallo and guacamole were fresh and the tortillas were perfect. The refried beans and rice were delicious as well. The portions are so huge that after stuffing myself with ~~ 4 tacos, I still have enough leftovers for about the same amount tomorrow. I give it 2 stars because the environment wasn't bad and the place was at least clean. However, I've been all over the country and have had many grades of Mexican food just about everywhere and this comes in as one of the worst. I should have known when the salsa was more like spicy red soup and the chips were cold. I ignored my instinct to leave as I was hoping for a comeback in a meal, so I ordered the beef chimichanga. It came quick enough and presented well on the plate but when I cut into it, the beef was grey and the meat looked boiled and to make it worse, tasted like wet newspaper. The rice had good flavor, but also had a lot of uncooked grains which makes for a surprise when you bite one. I didn't have the heart to tell the waiter it was so bad because it wasn't his fault. I just tipped him and was on my way so that could write this for you. I'll always remember this place but not for the reasons they hoped for. read more

I married someone from the Beaumont area. And when we were dating, and whenever we go back to SETX, she usually says, "We gotta go to Elena's." One time we went to Elena's, and her friends had a hissy fit because we didn't invite them. Overall, it's a good place, about on par with other Mexican restaurants I've eaten at. The portions are good sized, spicy but not too spicy, and the prices are right. And that's about it; not very memorable, but you'll get filled up with good food. Beaumont has to have the most Tex-Mex restaurants per capita than anywhere else in the country. Hell There are more Mexican restaurants here than in Mexico. I chose this one because I think it's my favorite amongst the 5-6 I have tried. The 1st thing is they of course give you the traditional complimentary chips and salsa. The cool thing is they give each person their own individual bowl. I love this because I'm like the bratty kid who doesn't want to share. " MINE!" The salsa is slightly spicy and they keep it coming with pitchers of the stuff. The chips are served warm and are super thin which I also love. My go to meal here is the Fajiladas. It's 2 cheese enchiladas served with fajita meat on top. Get both Chicken and beef. This is sooooo good. The fajita meat is perfect and the enchilada sauce is perfect. I mixed my side of rice in it just to sop it all up. The places is always busy for lunch but there is always a table. Stopped by for lunch on the way to New Orleans-- the neighborhood looked doubtful, but the packed parking lot assured us this was the place, and we weren't disappointed. Surprisingly impressed considering it's really a hole in the wall. Their best item is the fajitas, if you like onions. They come sizzling atop a mountain of beef like snow atop Popocatépetl. Chips and salsa good, and spicy. Also had flautas, which were small and crispy (they give you three). It's just good ol' quintessential RGV style Tex-mex. Not the fancy franchise stuff. Eating at and reviewing a Tex-Mex restaurant is the same as putting my two cents in on a fast food joint. It's all pretty much the same. That why people expect the "same thing"'whether eating at either establishment. Elena's is a case in point. This is a first visit even thought I've been aware of this eatery for more years than I can remember. I have read the reviews. Mostly, those posted on Yelp. I should know, by now, the Tex-Mex food in this city is abysmal. Looking at the pictures posted on Yelp really paints a complete story. In fact, I'm not even going to discuss the specifics of our meals. It is just so mediocre. Appended is a recipe for salsa which I make at home. It is way better than the peppery tomato juice Elena serves. INGREDIENTS: 8 roma tomatoes. 1 small yellow onion, - 1/2 cup, diced 1 small jalapeño, fresh, seeded 1/2 teaspoon celery salt teaspoon oregano ¼ cup fresh cilantro 1/2 teaspoon sugar 1 poblano chili ¼ teaspoon garlic salt ¼ teaspoon fresh ground pepper water for processing INSTRUCTIONS: In a moderately hot skillet that has been sprayed with a cooking spray. Brown the coarsely chopped poblano pepper and jalapeño pepper. Brown and stir until the skins have turned dark on many sides of peppers. Add tomatoes and brown them until the skins on the tomatoes have turned a dark brown on several sides, remove pan from heat. Put onion in hot skillet that has been removed from the heat and stir. In a food processor add celery salt, oregano cilantro, sugar, garlic salt and pepper. Pour peppers, onions and tomatoes and add water a little at a time, process just enough to chop to a medium consistency but not too smooth, leave a little chunky. Remove from processor and pour in hot skillet turn up heat quickly stir for 3 min and serve hot. Yield: 1 & 1/2 cup INFORMATION Tomatoes: Chop off the top. Cut in half. The sugar causes caramelization necessitating periodic deglazing. Use water Flavor enhancement: Juice of a fresh lime. Doubling the recipe yields nearly 2 quarts. read more

Went for dinner tonight. I don't live here but read reviews here and thought I would try it out. Chips were warm and the salsa had a little kick to it so I was off to a good start. Ordered the chicken fajitas. The sizzling plate had good chicken with a large pile of onions on top. Looked good. Tasted good too. I wish I would have been given bell peppers too but all in all it was good. My server checked in with me a couple of times during the meal but then completely forgot about me at the end. I finally flagged down the hostess (who was really sweet and nice) to get my bill. She apologized and said my waiter had been pulled off on a special task by the manager. This maybe a 4 star restaurant. I only have this experience to rate it by but due to the missing waiter at the end I am giving it 3 stars. After all that means a-ok and this was a good meal.
