Her most close supporters are husband Todd and son Jake. Tom's skills in the kitchen are amazing. His passion for food is the inspiration for some culinary masterpieces. Among some of the more unique and loved items in the menu are the Cafe Cuban Sandwich served on Portuguese sweet bread, and paired with homemade potato soup; The Strawberry Banana Nutela Crepes; The Smoked Salmon Benedict; and a first for any restaurant in the area: The Surf N Turf Omelet. Some of the items on their Fall Special Menu include the Dubai French Toast, The Banana Bread Pancakes, and The Benedict Burger, among others. Their coffee selection is also like no other. Today I visited the restaurant for an early breakfast. A friendly young lady greeted and welcomed me. I ordered an Iced Café Mocha to drink and an Imperial Omelet to eat. It was amazingly delicious. I loved it. Its quality chorizo flavor really stood out together with its fresh mozzarella, cherry tomatoes, spinach, and special chef's spices. The owner came out to say hello while I was there. She has a beautiful personality and a very creative mind and imagination. As their one-year anniversary is approaching in November of this year, plans are underway to expand into dinner hours and add a back patio for parade viewing and outdoor dining. She also believes in giving our local talented and creative people an opportunity to showcase their items in the gift shop. Currently the gift shop there is showcasing 10 local artisans. Got a TUDE from her with a "I would have came over, you didn't have to move". Then another guy just walks up, she gives him a menu and then his drink, I have neither. Finally she comes over my way, I asked if I could place a take out over. She grabs a menu, drops it in front of me and walks to the other end of the bar without asking or taking my drink order. She starts at the other end of the bar taking drink orders for all the other patrons who already have a drink in front of them. My daughter was a waitress while in college so I'm extremely empathetic toward wait staff, my lowest tip is 20%, good service 30% and excellent pays 40%. Tips are how they earn a living. Walked out.... also the menu is vastly different than what is offered on their website. Also I guess it may have been the chef- working extremely hard the entire time holding up a wall. What's sad in the end is I'll bet a 100 to 1 that not even a peep will come of this review from hotel or restaurant management.

The new owners, the Henegar family, who are bringing this beloved restaurant back to life, plan to keep the Wingate family legacy by maintaining its original recipes, introducing some seasonal items, and expanding to offer weekend breakfasts and lunch. Rarely have I ever gone to a grand opening and felt so much at home. As soon as I arrived and got in line, I mingled with people who had been dining there for years; some from the current community, and others who had driven many miles to gather once again in the place that had been so meaningful in their lives. An 88 year old gentleman and his wife told me many memorable stories of the place famous for its "all-you-can-eat" family-style service that opened its doors in 1982 by the Wingate family and closed in 2021 due to Covid-related struggles, and after 5 years is once again alive and well, and ready to serve this community as a family-centered restaurant in which customers are considered part of the Homeplace family. When I arrived to the Host's station, a friendly, young lady welcomed me and took my name, having me join the others in the waiting room. It had a couple of benches but was mostly standing room only. Then the parties were called in order of arrival and taken to their tables in several dining rooms around the restaurant. Immediately aftet I was seated, my server, Landon greeted me and explained the ordering system there. Pricing was determined by the number of meats you ordered. The three choices were Chicken, Roast Beef, and Ham. You could order one, two, or the three. And that included all the sides: Corn, Green Beans, Pinto Beans, Slaw, Mashed Potatoes & Gravy, or Fries. As well as a basket of Biscuits with regular and Apple Butter. I order the three and a Coke to drink. Not long after my server arrived with a large tray with everything ordered on it. Everything was served hot and you could see were high-quality products cooked to perfection. The Fried Chicken was plumpy and juicy. The Roast Beef was was tender and in its juices. The Ham was a few thin slices, but tasted like the best ham I've ever had on my trip to Madrid, Spain. And the sides, what can I say, every single one tasted amazingly delicious.
