My husband and I visited this location twice while in the Pigeon Forge area: once just to check it out and the second time to purchase some saltwater taffy for my in-laws. The temperatures were in the high 90's and we were driving. We didn't want to purchase them too early and have them melt in the car during our trip back home. The store is bright, colorful and very inviting. I love the layout and how you can see into the candy kitchen and watch them making taffy onsite. On both visits, we were greeted warmly and offered assistance with anything that we had questions on. I'd seen a video online that showed them offering a moonshine-flavored taffy, but I was unable to find it once in-store. My husband called his mom and walked through every flavored offered, while compiling a bag for purchase. I explored the rest of the store. There was a huge machine full of flavored powder candy (similar to Pixie Stix) and very large tubes that you could fill to your liking. They also offered a wide range of fudge flavors and lots of nostalgic/classic candies. I was drawn to the English toffee (very thick and rich) and I knew that my husband would like the chocolate-dipped twinkies, so we got ourselves those treats as well. They were running a special where if you bought a pound of taffy, you got another pound for free, but we didn't want or need that much taffy. The purchase wasn't as expensive as I expected, because of course everything is billed by weight, and we didn't purchase a lot of candy. I'd return again just for the English toffee. This place has a bunch of different things for a small shop. Of course this is a tourist town everything is going to cost more. It was $10 for non-pariels where most places would cost half that. but they were very good. My daughter got some jelly bellys and I got some zotts candy. read more

Never been so disappointed in customer service. Purchased a box of 1lb taffy for my family. My friend also purchased taffy and came out of the store after me. She mentioned she received a punch card for a free hat for purchasing a pound of candy. She said the worker just gave it to her. Feeling like I missed out, I walked back in and asked if I could get one as well. I showed them my friend's card and asked if I could get one. They told me the pound of taffy that i bought does not count. I looked at the card and it only mentioned buying 1lb of taffy to be eligible. The workers response sounded odd so I asked her to clarify. Apparently it's the loose taffy on the wall only. She stated you have to purchase a pound and a half of the loose taffy. Once again, nothing on the card said that except to purchase a pound of taffy. Her responses all sounded odd but to follow the rules I asked to return my box of 1lb taffy so I could purchase the taffy that qualifies. At that point all 3 of the ladies behind the counter ganged up on me. So when I returned with my 1 1/2 lbs of loose taffy to qualify, I paid & then I asked if the punch card was in the bag? They stated I already had a card- which I explained was my friend's and it was how I knew about the deal. They then passive aggressively called me a liar, saying I had no "friend" but was a repeat purchaser and they couldn't give me another card (even though the punch card only states per purchase and not per person). They then aggressively gave me a card and told me to go back to my "friend" and kept saying "bye" & "have a great day" with a lot of attitude & very loudly to drown out my extra questions about what else I needed to do with the card. I simply started out the encounter by asking for clarification of the punch card and why it didn't have anything about "exclusions may apply" etc. since my 1lb purchase didn't qualify. I really don't care about the hat, but I thought my kids might like to get the "prize" from it, but goodness they made the experience incredibly humiliating and called me a liar with no basis. There was No yelling from them but they very disrespectful. Even if I was the first person (as they said) who ask for clarification on the card, why treat me like that? As I walked out they sarcastically joked about me finding my "friend". It was Such a weird interaction and disappointing that the workers were so disrespectful to me. Again, their sarcasm and accusations weren't necessary for me simply asking questions. read more

My daughter and I stopped in the Old Mill Candy kitchen as we were touring the shops. I was blown away by how they make the taffy and you can see it being done right through the shop window. Everywhere we went we could smell fresh candy. They even had buckeyes which is one of my favorites. So good! Although they are a little pricey they are worth their weight in gold. Just wish I had a way to transport them home but having just started our trip I knew they wouldn't last. My daughter enjoyed the fudge. They come in various flavors. You can get all types of candy here to satify your sweet tooth. Also a nice place to cool off on a hot day. Staff is very friendly and helpful. Enjoyed our visit here. read more

I love this candy store! They had so many options that were sugar-free which is hard to come by in smaller stores. The taffy, buckeyes, & truffles were really good. The candy kitchen was very busy when we stopped in so there was not much service to speak of. We browsed around and picked up some Christmas candy and a box of fudge. The red velvet is overly sweet and tastes like pure sugar. The chocolate walnut is a personal favorite, not too sweet and love the nuts on top. The snickers is also a great option similar to the chocolate bar. You can also watch the spring water taffy being made through the window. Very cute candy shop. read more

I came in with intent to try fudge for the first time, and it was a great experience! I got a pound and a half for 20$ and they had great variety. The best that I tried were the Cookies and Cream, Tigers Blood, and Chocolate Peanut Butter. Personally, I did not care for the Caramel, or Neapolitan, but that's probably just personal preference. When I visited the first time there was a large family putting in a large order with one woman. The only other person working was very slowly packaging candies. The whole time I was there, standing close to her and very obviously needing assistance I don't think she even noticed me. Eventually, another large family came in and the other one still wasn't finished placing their order. I gave up and left. I returned about an hour later, close to closing. They were already covering the fudge. They seemed quite ready to be done. I wish the staff were better about greeting people upon entering the shop and making us feel welcome. We stopped in here for a quick snack while walking around Gatlinburg and they had a pretty good selection of chocolates and candy. This place is really pretty awesome. There were lots of different kinds of candies and numerous old school candies I haven't seen since I was a child. There seemed to be plenty of people working as well. The lines were hard to distinguish and I think there was only one, although there should have been at least 2 open. (I am writing this after the fact so they might have had 2 registers. It were only operating one.). The person that was helping us get candy from the case was the person ringing us up. It she got very distracted when someone she knew came in the store. She started talking about being able to leave because there were so many people working. This however means she wasn't paying attention to us and we couldn't even get her attention to let her know what else we wanted. When we did get fully checked out, they didn't put everything in the bag. (And we only purchased 3 things.). Not were we thanked or anything like that. The candies were good, the malt balls were really good. The service is the reason for less stars. read more

I made a quick detour on the way from Knoxville to Asheville to get some fudge for my co-workers and chose Old Mill based on other Yelp reviews and location. Of course I felt compelled to get a couple treats for myself, so I chose a dark chocolate covered bear paw and a milk chocolate covered pretzel. The pretzel was very good; the bear paw was okay. I'm not a big fan of pecans, so that likely contributed to my opinion. I also tried a bite (okay, three bites) of the peanut butter fudge to make sure that it is good enough for my co-workers. It was good, but I have had much better. Paul got some taffy, so of course I tried that too. It was good, but not even close to the best taffy in the world. If you have been to the Santa Cruz boardwalk in Santa Cruz, CA, you know what I mean. All and all, a good experience. For what it's worth, I will be working out when I reach the hotel tonight. read more

We stopped by to get some fudge yesterday afternoon. Ended up buying fudge, taffy, and the always hard-to-find chocolate espresso beans. The fudge and beans are wonderful. Rating 4 stars because the taffy is a bit... firm. This was my first visit, but it appears that they had recently moved, as the map on Yelp was incorrect. I sent an edit to correct the map location, but be advised on the new location if you had been here in the past and are unable to find it. It's just next to the Old Mill Pottery House. I waited 8 years to come here again from Miami and as expected it is still the best candy I've had! Not the best service but definitely the best product! I've had every taffy and caramel apple on the Gatlinburg strip including Kilwins and the taffy and caramel apple from the Old Mill Candy Kitchen is by far the best! I bought the taffy, and had high hopes for the cinnamon flavor, as it's my favorite. The flavors weren't very strong. Most of them tasted like they forgot to add any flavor at all. If I'd been given a sample of the cinnamon, I wouldn't have bought this taffy at all. I'm pretty disappointed considering the prices, but didn't try any other products, so I'm still giving this 3 stars. Bottom line: don't go cheap on the flavoring and you'll get more repeat business. I went out of my way to get cinnamon taffy from Ole Smoky Candy Kitchen and their cinnamon was exactly what I was looking for. This was my first visit here and if I'm ever back in Pigeon Forge, I'll definitely be back. This was the only place I have ever seen Pumpkin Pie fudge or Chewy Praline fudge. It was out of this world and I had to purchase both. The Pumpkin apiece fudge is seasonal but the other half dozen candy and fudge shops didn't come close to the variety and selections here. Parking may be difficult but you can always do like I did ... my sister let me out while I made my purchases and then she picked me back up. This was mid-October and nowhere close to Christmas yet.
