Came here on Friday only to learn that I didn't have my wallet and only a bunch of coins covered in coagulated soda. You ever just need chocolate? If so, you'll understand why I asked the cashier if I could use their bathroom to clean the slime off my change. A woman in back (the owner?) overheard and said, "Cup holder change? Give it here." I showed her how gross it was and insisted I would wash it, but she wasn't having it and made my $3.19 all sparkly again. On top of this, doofus here chose a $2.99 chocolate covered cheesecake slice that came to $3.46 with tax (did NOT mean to do that) which they gave me of course. Often I come here to pick up some chocolate covered strawberries and also dark chocolate treats. They do not have parking but there is street parking right in front and it is free. They offer their own chocolate as well as others. You can order ahead for special occasions or just pickup at any time like I do, some treats. The girl at the register was not too friendly but the lady that has been there for some time she is. I really like their chocolate and I will keep coming back. For someone that loves chocolate this place is almost heaven. Their chocolate creams are outstanding- both milk and dark chocolate. Their prices are reasonable, especially comparing them to the National brand names. The women that work there took the time to show me how to "read" the swirls on the creams so you don't have to stick your finger into the candy to insure that you pick what you want. This place is pretty cool. My coworkers and I ate at a taco place next door and thought, "Hey, let's pop in the candy store and see what it is all about." They had a really huge variety of not only fun nostalgic stuff (reminded me of my childhood and sneaking candy into the movies), but fancier individual chocolate pieces as well. I'm a sucker for Jordan Almonds, so I got some of those. I also hadn't had candy corn in many years so I figured "it's almost Halloween" and got a little bit of those too. I LOVE Old Fashioned Candies!!! My ex-wife introduced me to Old Fashioned when we were dating (as she did so many other Berwyn / Cicero classics). It's the epitome of the corner candy store of years (decades) past. All the chocolates they offer are handmade in an "Old Fashioned" way, sometimes utilizing candy molds that are 50+ years old. Their chocolate isn't "fancy" along Godiva lines, but is simple, perfect, milk and dark chocolate. A GREAT bargain, if you ask for it (and there are a lot of things that you can ask for that aren't on the "menu") is the white chocolate "bark". A HUGE bargain, and if you like white chocolate, this is top-notch stuff. Also go for the milk chocolate covered strawberries, their signature item. When they're in season during spring and summer, they are absolutely amazing. Can't be beat. Seriously. Also during summer, go for a monstrous helping of cotton candy for $1 - that's right - ONE dollar. And they make it right in front of you in an old fashioned (sorry for the redundancy) cotton candy making machine. Just like at carnivals when you were a kid. Check out the wall of chocolate behind the main counter - solid chocolate greeting cards, letters, numbers, locomotives, cars - you name it, they can make it in chocolate - just ask! read more

The one-star review is based on customer service. We just moved to the area and saw this store on Cermak. I love supporting small businesses and buying good quality products, so it seemed like a great local find. The chocolate is fine. There was a chocolate covered cookie that was labeled as much, but ended up being a dipped Ritz cracker. The samples tasted ok. I needed three small gift boxes for a family event. I asked how much, and the worker said the smallest sets were 4 and 6-piece boxes that were sold by the pound. I ended up choosing five pieces per box that were $18.95 a pound because that's what fit. The boxes ended being between $3.40-3.60. The manager, who had been standing there the whole time, walked over and mumbled something. The worker then said, I have to charger you fifty cents for each box. And I said, why? She didn't know, but that's what the manager said. This lady decided to charge me once she saw what the candy weighed. And when I asked her why she didn't say anything before, she said they were $3.95. I told her that she needed to charge everyone the same thing, and that it would be the last time I shopped there. She said nothing. It's a shame. I don't appreciate being nickeled and dimed for arbitrary reasons. I also think having a repeat customer is better than the $1.50, especially at a time when small businesses are struggling. But she knows that. In any event, there are other candy stores in Oak Park and Forest Park. read more

I was so amazed by that for some reason, I also remember buying some big chew gum before my little league games to pretend I had tobacco in my mouth like the major league players back then.. If you call a day before you can order them with white chocolate as well...On a special occasion for a loved one, you bet your arse I'm ordering strawberries from OFC... This place is as consistent as they come and the candy tastes equally awesome every time, in Chicago or across the country. As in my previous review, I wrote that my husband thought this place has the best peanut brittle he's ever had in his life and it's his favorite type of candy. This past Christmas I surprised him with 5 lbs of it and had the shop ship it here to Washington. It was one of his happiest presents. He ate it all in 5 days. Before New Years. ...And all he wanted for his birthday a month later was more OFC peanut brittle. My dad who lived not too far visited the store and bought a few bags to send to him as a birthday present. He was so happy and this time he preserved the brittle as long as possible. It's probably a good thing OFC is far far away from us, for his sake. :) Suggestion to all: If you like Peanut Brittle, go here and grab some. You guys make great candy. Even though they are working out of the Indian Head Store Lynn and Rosie have been nothing but patient and accommodating with my mom and I. Finally was near this location, so had to make the stop. This place had been on my bookmark list for quite some time. Upon entering....wow. All types of candy. Huge selection of made in-house and also a huge selection of old time candy from my youth that I did not think still existed. Now, I admit that I have a sweet tooth so this type of place can be dangerous to me since I want at least one of everything. However, showing some restraint, I kept it to a variety of a pound of in-house made chocolates. I can't tell you all the different ones that I picked but I can tell you that it was all delicious. I had different types of cream filled chocolates and they were the creamiest that I ever had. Vanilla, Butter, Lemon flavors were standouts. I also thought that the coconut haystacks were awesome.
