Everyone was super friendly and almost all of the campers stopped to talk to us as they went about the park walking their dogs, going for a stroll, or visiting the ponds and walking trail. We felt very welcome and our pets were very welcome, too. Every campsite had at least one pet, if not two. I highly recommend Deer Springs if you want a campground that is a quiet, relaxing spot. Take a jacket - it gets cooler at night (elevation is over 3400') than the surrounding area.

I usually try to stay in "affiliated" campgrounds whenever possible because they have to maintain a certain level of professionalism and caring for their service. Other times I go on line and try to get reservations in places that show up well in their web sites. This is not always satisfying, as there are many web sites that are much nicer than their actual grounds. This has happened to me a few times as I'm sure it has happened to you if you spend any amount of time traveling, I can say without fear of contradiction that this campground is a "diamond in the rough." It is in a pretty spot and managed by a fellow who absolutely goes out of his way to ensure that this campground and the folks who stay here are more than happy that they came here. Rick is the manager and he is nothing short of OUTSTANDING in the way he does his job. To be perfectly honest, there are not enough stars for me to light up when it comes to rating this campground. If you are fortunate to find yourself rv-ing in this incredibly beautiful part of our country, then try to get a spot here. I am certain that you will be more than pleased.

WiFi sucks, but the guy who took us to our sight went and got a loaner router from the office and helped hook it up. Office, clubhouse, pool area and facilities were all very nice and new. The pads are concrete are fairly level. The bad Or original site was someone's driveway. There was a tree overgrowing the driveway on the same side I had to back that made it a challenge to get into the sight. Once in the tree dropped crap all over our toad. The view from our right side window was the side of the building who's driveway we had parked in. My awning almost touched the building and there was very little room outside of our door. The WiFi here didn't work, nor did the cable connection for the tv. They did move us at our request to another open sight. So if you're planning on coming here you have to specifically ask if you're going to be in someone's driveway, because they won't offer that information and the site map doesn't show which lots have buildings on them. If you're looking for peace and quite, this is not the place for you. There is ongoing constructing between the heavy equipment clearing the property for more sites, or the constant banging of people repairing or having new permanent units worked on. Overpriced at $70.00 a day plus extra to be on the creek. We found a much nicer, quieter place in Hiawasee for 35.00 a night with riverfront sights at no extra cost. There's a reason for the 30 day cancellation notice. We tried to get out of our second week to go somewhere else, but they wouldn't allow it. Needless to say, we won't be back. The ugly There was nothing I would rate as ugly here. Just not the place for us ever again.

There are a variety of campsites, from tents to large 50-amp RVs. I really enjoy walking my dog around every day, meeting the neighbors, seeing all kinds of wildlife, and soaking up the mountains. I am apart of a homeschool co-op and we found this campground for a group camping experience…read more When we arrived we were proudly greeted with "We are a no frills, 70s style campground." Yes, this is lol Like another reviewer said check and double check your deposit. There are no cards taken- only cash and check mailed to them. The front desk has a large reservation notebook with highlighters going all through it. We had some small issues because of their lack of technology. One family got double booked on a campsite, and one family was not reserved with their deposit. It was a confusing mix-up which Lazy J apologized for and made right. I feel like this is what camping should feel like. The tubing river was calm enough where I would let my kids, boys ages 6-10, go tube the river by themselves. Thus my husband and I didn't have to supervise or entertain them. We knew they were either tubing on the river or playing on the "beach". Which, BTW, the best spots in Lazy J are A7, A9 & A10 - these sites had access to the beach area and a nice swim hole. We were in A7 so we could see and hear them when they were playing on the beach. On the website map the river is cut off at the bottom. The river actually swings around so A3, 5 and 7 have the river behind them. Some tent sites are TINY - as in a 2 person tent, max. C3 and C4 were so small a mom had to move to a bigger site to fit her family tent. A6 and A8 are right next to each other - which would be a good option if you're camping with friends but feels awkward if you're next to a stranger. The swings are very tall which made them a lot of fun to swing on. I think the best part is going in June and you'll get to see the synchronous fireflies (if it's not raining) in the big field in front of the bathhouse. Bathhouse was clean (I didn't use the showers for our short stay) and well stocked. I think our group has found it's yearly camping spot. It was a great stay.

Debbie at the front desk was very open to letting us choose any of the tent sites available. The only negative remark I have is that a long term resident, "Mary", approached me while talking to my spouse through the bathroom door. She was very very rude and claim she worked there but when I asked her name, she changed her mind, noting she was only a camper and "used to" run the camp. I can only imagine as to why she "used to" run the campground.
