A hidden gym in Soho. Great ambience, service, and selection of beers. We have been going there since the 1990s and it never disappoints.

If only the pub was as good as the micro brewery Ok, I have drank here twice in the last year, it's off carnaby, which I visit regularly, so can tick a couple boxes at the same time. Cool shops and Indy pubs, tick, tick. They are tied in with the microbrewery brodies, who are currently riding the popular wave of real ale meets craft beer, meets the world. And I like what they are doing, and interesting range of single hop beers, as well as modern twists on classic British staples such as pale ale and red ales. Enough about the brewery, cos the beer doesn't make the pub, the pub makes the pub, every time. They don't keep their beer well, it's average condition, which is a shame as the beer itself is so damn good. So what's good about here? It's an idiosyncratic English pub, traditional sticky carpet, aged old wooden bar, shakes stools and relatively disengaged middle aged bar staff (not sure if that is a good or bad thing) They have a standard pub menu with their own range of pies , fish and chips and most likely bangers and mash, I haven't eaten here yet. The food and drink prices are quite good for London, particularly central london! read more

Brilliant pub! One of the best in London. Certainly my favourite in Soho. It make me happy. In fact, everyone I know likes it. It's got bric-a-brac all over the place for no reason. This makes me smile. It adds something to this otherwise simple pub. I like the way it's laid out, I like the fact I can sit at the bar and read a book and no one finds that weird. The staff are nice. The service is quick. The regulars are kind. It gets a bit 'Meeedja' later on in the week - especially on a Friday evening, but otherwise it's just a pretty cool pub. Oh, and they get brownie points for free wi-fi beer while I'm working in Soho makes me incredibly happy. read more

Walked by this laid back unpretentious bar tonight and I knew I had to stop in for a pint. The bartenders were so kind! They were out of the beer I ordered, so they started pouring me samples to see what I liked. I decided on their favorite pale ale. They also have liquor which was really inexpensive compared to what I'm used to paying in the US. We took the last 2 spots at the bar. There were a bunch of tables too, but they were all filled. People were constantly coming in and out. There were so many different people- old, young, locals and tourists. Everyone seemed to be just enjoying their beer and the company of friends. The restrooms are located downstairs and they were very clean. They take credit cards. I plan on making a stop here every time I visit London! read more

I feel this place has been misrepresented somewhat. The food is terrible, you say? It's a pub in Soho. The toilets are grim? It's a pub. In Soho. Get over yourselves, people. The reality is that the pub circuit in Soho is depressingly average and you're never going to get a decent meal inside one. The toilet situation is more unfortunate, but frankly most of the toilets in Soho pubs are as bad. At the end of the day the mark of a good pub is twofold: The atmosphere, and the beer. The Old Coffee House has both in spades. Frankly, I think the Old Coffee House is great. It's not as busy as the other pubs, and serves some absolutely fantastic Brodies brews on frequent rotation. Just don't overdo the Imperial IPA. That stuff will put you down. They've got just the right amount of random tat hung on the walls and ceilings (check out the guitar signed by KISS and the handwritten letter from David Beckham) to make it feel fun, but nowhere near cheesy. Husband calls this an "old man pub" though there were zero frumpy, elderly Brits here at 10pm on a Friday night. Mostly young (university students and young professionals crowd). We were in Soho looking for a quiet-ish place to get a post-dinner beer and - fingers crossed - a seat. I had my doubts that was possible in London on a weekend, but we managed to grab a table -- one of small handful. Christmas decor was up, but sadly no hot cider or mulled wine ... or even an Irish coffee, ironically given the name. This place just does not do hot booze. Except port, which arrived in a regular wine glass and filled to the brim. Alright. Bartenders moved fast and the atmosphere is cheerful. TVs had some sort of sport on, bathrooms were expectedly tiny. Like the John Snow, it's nice to have low key pubs like this in your back pocket when finding yourself in the area and in need of a no frills pint. read more

Good place to escape the hoards of mad shoppers. The pub is situated in a little side road off Regent Street and once you enter you feel like you should be in a pub in the country side somewhere, nice and chilled with a good selection of beers, and if you like your craft beers, they pretty much house all beers from local brewers Brodie's, which are delicious (as I sampled two pints of pale ale). So if you are in need of a brake or fancy a man creche while your partner shops, head here, worth a drink or two. read more

What a cool little pub with so much to see on hanging from the walls. Just looking for a beer and cider I walked in here and me and my friend were really surprised how quiet this place was since outside there were so many people and in here it was like a different world. This pub was rammed.but with good reason. This pub manages to look very bright, cosy and welcomingeven when packed to the rafters. It also serves some very good real ale. There were a few beers from Brodie's brewery on tap. I'm a fan of their brewery/pub (http://www.qype.co.uk/place/600147-King-William-IV-London) and was happy to see beers from them that I had not come across before, particularly the hoppy, tasty Sunshine (not really appropriate presently, but no mind!) This has been the number 1 qype pub recommendation that qype has been nudging me to go to for 3 or 4 months now. It was mildly frustrating as I had actually been beforetwice..but once was at the end of a booze blurred night a year ago and the other visit was about 8 years ago! So although I remembered liking the place, I didn't feel qualified to review it until now. Strangely enough it was not busy on my previous visits. Now it is full of people who have seen the reviews on here perhaps. read more

The Old Coffee House is a traditional pub tucked away on the corner of a sidestreet in the heart of 'untouristy' soho. It's usually pretty full with an eclectic mix of after-work media types and a few hard-drinking regulars. I got into a weird conversation here with someone about the rise of bed bugs in london housing! I'd recommend it as an alternative to the chain bars and packed-to-the-rafters pubs in other parts of soho. Good place for a mid-week drink with a friend you haven't seen for ages. The only annoying thing is the silent flat screen tv in the corner - apart from this it's a good friendly pub with a wide choice of beers. read more

My first English cask ales were drank here. Lots of Brodie's on tap, like 6-8 different varieties. They also had Amstel and other crummy lager like that as well. Crazy stuff lines the walls. There was some kind of old machine you'd put a coin in to get different grains. Gold records from Robbie Williams? I think that's who it was. Great service. Special shout out to Ricky from Austrailia. The great thing about this place is the Brodie's beers. Many hop-forward beers but lower in alcohol than you'd expect from the same styles brewed in the U.S. 3.1 - 5.3% ABV. Delicious! We came here twice. Monday was nice and slow. Wednesday there was a game between Totenham and Arsenal, so there was more of a crowd watching inside. read more

Now this, is a good pub. Beautifully decorated, a fine array of ales, and not overcrowded on a Thursday night? Plus, it's a stone's throw from Qype HQ, hence I'm sure we'll be frequenting it from now on. The Old Coffee House harks back to a time when pubs were pubs - warm, inviting, places full of colorful characters - rather than the glorified bistros full of Ikea furniture, laminated floors, and carbon copy menus that most are today. It has more soul than James Brown topped with 5 gallons of Soul Glo. The kind of place where you'd feel equally comfortable taking your grandad, best mate, or group of work colleagues. A hugely convenient place given the location next to Picadilly circus and Soho. Glass house is quite traditional english pub with traditional food in the menu. They do ales and lagers, at incredibly cheap prices at around two pounds a pint. walls, seats and tables are made up of wood. Why would you call it glass house then? Part of the allure I guess. Then, good news for smokers, that don't need to freeze outside to have a smoke. Downstairs, next to emergency stairs there is a special room for you to puff away. good range of beer, good prices, nice decor and in London central, a good place to bear in mind if you are around shopping , in the theatre or somthing like that read more

I had the opportunity to visit this pub tonight and enjoyed a pint of Brodies Bethnal Green bitter-which warmed my cockles before venturing out into the snow again. Nice friendly staff who offered a taster of the beers(without me asking) and there was plenty of space to sit down too. read more

I love this tiny pub in Soho. It seems so quiet, despite the fact it is ordinarily packed out. People are very polite in here, and it's always easy to get served. The staff are happy to have a chat when they aren't too busy, and although it might be slightly more pricey than a normal pub, you're guaranteed the space to have a good chat. There are comedy nights held in the upstairs function room from time to time, but these don't interfer with the pub's ambiance, if you don't enjoy that sort of thing. This is a very traditionally looking and old fashioned pub, and some of its clientele are too. I find this a breath of fresh air in Soho, especially on a street lined with ever-changing and over-priced bars. read more

The food is a fine thing in the Old Coffee House. Their chicken ham and leek pie is food fit for the gods - and is quite cheap for pubs in the area. A few years ago, when I frequented this pub more frequently, the menu had a photo on the front, showing a number of women in Victorian dress within the pub - a closer look, however, and the women looked surprisingly, um, butch. Adam's Apples, and everything. And that is the humour of this pub. The favoured pub for Absolute Radio (which is just around the corner), and before them Virgin Radio as well, it sells a decent variety of beer at prices that aren't completely insane. Their upstairs area is a good place to enjoy lunch, too. But don't go looking at the posters on the wall too closely - too many stuffed animals and odd wartime posters to be anywhere near trendy. The old signs on the door would lead you to believe that it brews its own beer - it doesn't - but it does have a few guest ales on tap which is always a good thing. And there's a roaring fire in there in the winter months. Sometimes. When they can be bothered to light it. I'd recommend it. So it's a good job I've written this review then. read more

Solid pub. One of only a handful of places where you can find Brodies. Decor is quite eclectic, with lots of pots and pans hanging about and even some taxidermy on display. There were two football matches going when I visited. Bartenders were nice enough. Prices were decent: £3 per pint. Would go back, especially if they had on some different Brodies stuff. read more

Definitely won't return! If you are Irish fine, if you are not then don't try and spark up conversation with the clientele unless you want to have a fight! Not a nice experience and one I never want to experience again. Maybe they need door staff as I am dat at the back of the pub to scared to move. read more

A pretty decent 'proper' pub in Soho and seemingly one of the few that shows football, albeit often with the sound off. A great selection of beers and ales from Brodie's plus the usual suspects of lagers and Guinness. The Brodie's selection can be a bit hit and miss, but the Hoxton Special IPA I had was really good, a very nice American style hoppy IPA. read more

Nice old pub.

This place is great! I enjoyed it with my friends after work while drinking a pint or two of good quality apple ciders with a lot of ice. The music is also not bad a bit old-school but it really contributes to the unique atmosphere. I will come back here for sure! read more

I don't know about the drinking side, but my "burger" consisted of a steak between two buns (that's right, nothing else!!!!). Looks like a microwave one... My friends "traditional" fish and chips was also taste free... Not the kind of food you expect in this kind of traditional pub. The environment is cool though, but the non smiling employees kind of ruin it... PS: their was no bubbles in my Coke too... Being a "regular" pub customer, I would definitely not recommend this place to eat! read more

3 people at the bar just now, my husband and myself included. Husband and I are chatting, woman next to us orders a beer, as bartender is pouring the beer my husband says "hey, when you get a chance can you pour me a..." Bartender shushes him, saying he's already helping someone. lol I mean...multi tasking is one of the necessary skills of a bartender. I'm a long time bartender, you've got to be able to listen to 4-5 orders at a time. He couldn't listen to one drink order whilst pouring a beer with only 3 people sitting there? Or just didn't want to? I guess this is what happens when gratuity is included. Cute place but honestly don't shush your customers. We were not disrespectful by any means. read more
