I visited this café on a really cold day. I was disappointed by a coffee shop around the corner that ran out of coffee beans and had a horrible snobby attitude, so I wanted to check out what they had at Old City Java. Not only did they have a great selection of espresso beans, the barista was happy to educate me on the different options. I also got a dark chocolate bar made in Asheville that was absolutely fantastic! My hot Cortado to go was delicious and high on the caffeine side. (My favorite!!) There is adequate seating for studying, working, or chatting with friends and the atmosphere is warm and relaxing with good WiFi. They have several family style restrooms that are easy to access. The only challenge is that parking can be difficult, but it's inner city....what did I expect? The barista was super fast and had an amazing attitude. I will 100% be back! read more

Service was good, she helped my friend get the closest she could to a PSL ( basic...lol) Side note they were very busy and it was kinda hard to snag a table! Simply didn't taste any vanilla in the vanilla latte. There was hardly any espresso flavor either. The milk drowned out any of the flavor.

We ordered a latte with caramel and one of their seasonal drinks (Winter Miel) and it was SO GOOD! 10/10. It actually tasted like coffee and not some watered down weak espresso. We also ordered a pumpkin loaf and croissant, both delicious. The coffee shop itself is super cute and I wish we could have stayed a little longer, but we were on our way back home to Texas from Gatlinburg where apparently good coffee doesn't exist. I fell in love with this place. I was greeted very kindly and warmly, and was able to look at the menu. It wasn't too large or overwhelming and they had more simple options. They had around 5 different flavor options, the ones you normally expect. They had a wide variety of different types of coffee and some really good looking pastries. My coffee was made quick for only one person working and it was pretty good! It was also quite affordable based on other independent coffee shops. I believe my latte with almond milk was $6.20 for about a 20 oz. I'm in love with the cozy atmosphere, they have a mini library, beautiful windows and a rustic feel. tables are plenty, but spaced well in a smaller place. There are two rooms, so different options. It's a very quiet coffee shop, great for conversation or study. overall, I will be back very soon! read more

This was such a cute little coffee shop in an old town building. I got the hot chai with caramel and vanilla and it was delicious! I also had their prosciutto and cheese croissant. Small and busy. But not in a bad way. Staff were so friendly and my drinks were made almost as soon as I ordered. I am not exaggerating when I tell you- this is the best mocha I have EVER had. Creamy and balanced. The matcha tonic was a new combination I have never seen. I love both and found it refreshing. If you like kombucha you will love it. The pastries are flaky, fresh and buttery. Enjoyed an early morning cup of Columbian coffee and a delicious cranberry oat scone on a brisk cold morning. The coffee shop was filled with chatter by young folks on their laptops and cellphones, all while enjoying their lattes, teas, specialty coffees and wonderful baked goods. Although, the items were filling and quite tasty, I found the prices to be expensive! There's a cozy patio area which could be enjoyed when the weather is nice. I took note of the staff's interaction with the customers and found them to be very friendly and accommodating with special requests. The menu is fairly small but has everything you need. I ordered an iced latte with chocolate and oak milk. It came out quickly and the barista was very nice. This lovely historic building in old town is the perfect spot for an afternoon pick-me-up. I had iced mocha and lemon pound cake. The mocha was perfectly balanced with no syrupy aftertaste. I would have preferred the cake to have been chilled, but it was tasty and not dry/crumbly. Ambient music was unobtrusive. My first time in Knoxville and I picked this place for our one stop as we drove through, based on location and strength of other reviews. It did not disappoint. Cute older neighborhood that we walked around, and that day there was a street market with cool local vendors. These folks know their coffee, and I got the usual Americano - black, and my sweetie his quad shot mocha. Also sprang for a lovely pastry with creative flavors that was very well made. This is an excellent downtown location for coffee and a small bite. My wife and I had their drip coffee, and we each had a baked good (Hand pie & Croissant). The pastries are fantastic. The service was both friendly and efficient. I found the drip coffee to be a bit stronger for my taste, even with some creme. But, I can fix that. We really enjoyed their unique outdoor dining space, which is in an impeccably clean alley adjoining their store. I was in Knoxville for a couple of days for work and stopped here a few times - the coffee is delicious and the aesthetic is just the right balance of gritty, elegant and comfortable. The spot is divided into two halves as of it was originally two shops made into one so there is plenty of seating for reading, work or chit-chat. It's located on a the corner of an alley with fantastic graffiti art and bistro tables for outdoor seating. The coffee is really good, serving a very palatable flavor profile that's not too acidic or over-roasted...it's simple and delicious. As mentioned, I enjoyed quite a few drinks here over the course of a couple of days - as well as another nearby spot. It's worth the walk to old city....lovely spot! read more
