My family has enjoyed Old Chicago for many, many years, but as of late, things have taken a slight downward slide. Tonight's experience was dine in. Ordering from the menu took forever, because we needed to scan from our phones in order to view them, but there were so many glitches to get them to work, we just settled with items we could remember we've ordered in the past. Ordering one drink took over 20 minutes to receive, and this was after 7:30 pm, on a slow evening. And we had several other issues. Our server, although seemed nice, was not a go getter. As described by one at our table, "more of a idle person." During Covid, we always tip no less than 20%, but our experience was so painful, that we just couldn't do more than 15% (we still have hearts), due to how poorly the whole time there was. If I could leave negative stars I would. Families that sat down 20-30 min after us ate and left before us. My boyfriend ordered the chicken fried chicken and what they brought out was three nugget sized chicken with little to no sauce and a small scoop of mashed potatoes. Along with that the extra plates we received weren't washed. they came out with the bottoms completely covered in dressings and lettuce. The second round of plates we got were still dirty. I have been here many times but the past few have been poor service and poor food quality. read more

I enjoy Old Chicago's food. I go to the one in Minneapolis sometimes, and have never left dissatisfied. I really enjoy this location the best. I love the whole layout of the bar and restaurant, I love the tables in the bar, and their happy hour is pretty legit! I mean cheap and good! Their pizzas are usually really good too. If it is your first time, I suggest the Italian Nachos...mmmm It does get really busy since it right down on Tourist lane in Canal Park, but overall, it is worth the wait.. read more

Good pizza in a pinch. Much better than say, Pizza Hut, would be, but not nearly as good as somewhere local. However, we went here because it was close to the hotel and we couldn't find anywhere to deliver around lunch hour. Pizza is THICK, so we ended up with way more than we needed. Really greasy too... Old Chicago is an easy go-to place to eat in Duluth. The food is decent, service is typically good. I usually like to come to Old Chicago for a drink with friends to watch a football, baseball or hockey game (lots of tv's to choose from) or late night to play a game or two of darts. The food is good although nothing to rave about, the pepperoni rolls are my favorite thing on the menu and finishing with a little big cookie is usually a good idea. If you come on the weekend and there is an event going on at the DECC, come before the event ends, as Old Chicago gets crazy busy (especially after UMD hockey games) and can be hard to get a table/long wait. It is a pretty large open restaurant, so a good place for large groups of people. read more

We hadn't been to an Old Chicago in years, and were excited to have one within walking distance of our lodging in Duluth. The place was clean, the service fast, and the food just as tasty as we recalled. I got the Double Decker-oni (I considered taking one star off just for that terrible name, but the pizza was good, if - unsurprisingly - greasy) and added Kalamatta olives, which I love, but have trouble finding at other places in the Midwest. I ordered a Summit Maibock, which was excellent (suggested motto: Our Maibock ROCKS. They can play with that, and decide which way to go later.) My wife got a cheese pizza, because apparently she was raised as the gustatory equivalent of being Amish, where "flavor" is considered dirty and shameful, like dancing in that town in "Footloose." Great service. Good food. Our food was delayed not even by 5 mins and we were not also anything. The manager and the host were so nice they offered complementary pizza( worth $ 22). Pizza was very fresh and delicious. I also enjoyed their margarita. :) read more

I have tried a few different things. The kids macaroni was so undercooked I didn't give it to my son. I have tried the Italian nachos, not a favorite, the nachos are made of what seems like deep fried wonton wraps and that's not too bad. I had a hangover burger this time, I ordered the burger medium well and got it blackened. The bun was also a little burnt. The food here is very bland. Tastes like cheap dive bar food, not worth the price. The only thing I'd say I really enjoy about this restaurant is that the driver shows up either before or right on scheduled time and very kind drivers. read more

My husband and I had the worst experience EVER. We have been to this restaurant many times before and have always had great service and delicious food. The bartender was rude and seemed annoyed that we were there. After our first round we decided to have another drink and an appetizer so we waited about 25 minutes. We were not approached by the bartender even though we were sitting right in front of the bar and she could easily see our glasses were empty. I also want to point out that while we were there we realized that we weren't the only customers being ignored. At least three families came in but were never approached by a hostess and were ignored by the bartender, so they all eventually walked out. I finally asked the bartender, while she was playing on her phone, if we could see a menu and she responded with "Its all online" without even looking up from her phone. We flagged down another employee and he gave us a menu. We waited about 20 more minutes and finally had enough. We paid, left, and walked down the street to another restaurant, where we had delicious pizza and amazing service. I realize the challenges restaurants face during COVID times, but this blatant ignorance and disrespect for the customers is inexcusable. I don't know how they manage to stay in business. read more

The response from Old Chicago asking for more information, is just for show. I followed up with two additional messages and was told they would forward it on to the local restaurant for follow-up. Still no additional follow-up. The restaurant doesn't actually care about "making it right", but about the appearance that they responded to my comment. In my opinion, this is just making it worse. Don't indicate that you are going to do something about your error, when in reality, you are not. read more

Food was wonderful so you will get 4 stars. It was that good. Host and server at the door were a good reason to turn around and leave. Not a busy night at all but he says "let me see who will take you" asked the girl standing there if she wants us, she replies with a "no, not my rotation". They told us 10-15min wait time and we have been waiting outside for 40minutes and still waiting I have went in 2 times and they said "5minutes" (it's was another 25min) then they said "tables are being cleaned don't go anywhere" (another 10 min) then we finally got in. Not good service. read more

Restaurant located just off the Canal Park area. Service was strange from the start with hostess greeting us then telling us she couldn't seat us even though the restaurant was only half full. A manager came through 10 minutes later and asked if we'd been helped before finally seating us. We waited another 20 minutes before a waitress took our order. Food was bland and our order was messed up which they did end up fixing. Drinks were good. Checks were messed up at the end. I would not return. read more

My boyfriend and I have become what you call "regulars" here at Old Chicago. There isn't another restaurant in town that I know more than one server or bartender like I do here. We love beer and drink a lot of it. The World Beer Tour has brought us in 4 times in one week before just to get a shirt for completing. We are addicted! They make you feel welcomed and the service is always great. It may not be a "local" favorite - but we love it. Cheers! I'd recommend the Italian Nachos or Pizza Rolls for happy hour. For dinner, the Double Deckeroni with jalépeños is a must with their dynamite ranch dressing. read more

We have been to Old Chicago twice within the past month. The first time it was just myself and my boyfriend and we were just there for drinks. It was a weeknight because I am a waitress and he is a bartender so we don't ever get summer weekends off. So it wasn't busy. It goes without saying that they have an excellent selection of beer, so we sampled a couple that they had on tap that that- both were delicious. The service was ok. The waitress spent a lot of time flirting with the men at the table next to us though- on our second round we had to wait awhile. We sampled some of their featured cocktails, one of which was a pomegranate lemonade summer hummer. It was pretty good. My only issue was that I paid with a debit card and the charge didn't come off for about 2 weeks, which can be a pain with debit cards if you aren't paying attention. The second time we went back with our boys for pizza after a long day in Canal Park- it was much better the second time. We were given a nice booth, and ordered appetizers and dinner. The waitress was professional and brought lots of refills without us having to ask. (As a side note, that pomegranate lemonade tastes better without the vodka!) we had really delicious nachos, and even more delicious deep-dish pizzas. She even served us our first slices. Everything was prompt and nice and tasty. We tend to tip according to service (because of our experience) never less than 10% for poor service- she got 25%. Absolute WORST dining experience of my 40 years. Our server didn't take our order until 30 mins at the table. The food took over an hour to come (and it was mostly individual pizzas) and two items were wrong! We only saw our server when he took orders and brought the bill. Someone else delivered the food. We were sitting next to a table that arrived before us and we actually ate and left before they even got their food. Old Chicago is a decent place to grab a bite to eat, certainly a great place to get some pizza or a calzone, but the one in Duluth could use a remodel for the prices they charge. Old Chicago is better as a bar that serves food then a full on restaurant. There are better options in Duluth for family dining. You are looking at spending $14-24-35 for their homemade pizza's based on size, so it's definitely a little pricier. That being said Old Chicago is great place to go to watch a football game and throw down some pizza and beers and that is why they have plenty of regulars. read more

Yes, great happy hour prices. The side Greek salad for $2.50 is a good example as well as the $2.99 mini pizzas. Downside? Very noisy, over-priced pizzas ($20+ for a large.) The crust on the minis was more like a pancake than true pizza crust. The happy hour is only until 6 pm. read more

Every time we go we end up getting crappy service. Tonight was no exception. The waiter was surly, somehow my raspberry iced tea tasted like butter. We asked for a specific football game to be on one of the 4 TVs in the bar, then they changed the channel at halftime and never changed it back. Our waiter also disappeared at halftime, even though we told him that's when we were going to order, so we couldn't get food or ask for our game back. Happens every time. read more

Ate there a few weeks ago and although the restaurant was not busy. It took forever to get our salad and even the entree. Food was hot and good. The restaurant is outdated and dirty. At one point, the manager (a portly blonde) asked us how our dinner was, I indicated that it took almost twenty minutes to get our salads and another twenty minutes to get our entree. The thick pan pizza was very good. Best pizza I had bought at a restaurant in a couple years. The bathroom was gross though. Looked and smelled like it hadn't been cleaned. I got there early for dinner, 4:30 pm. There were only 2 couples dining, and about 15 folks at the bar. You would think with all the employees they had that the bathroom mess would be dealt with. The server was friendly and professions and asked me how everything was when I got done eating. But I kept my mouth shut and said everything was good and gave him a good tip read more
