Bulgogi was cooked nicely. Have a chance to speak to the lady owner. They used high quality meat and purple rice (healthy option). I wish they have more business and keep this restaurant opens because I really enjoyed their food!

Omg! Amazing discovery! Amazing authentic Korean! Holy cow! What a gem! Tell all your friends!…read more First off, bonchon dishes are amazing. Fresh, flavorful and fulfilling. My must have is the eggplant. Ugh! Yum! Sauce, samjang is samjanggggging! They make this in house. Store bought samjang isn't the same and other places don't make their own from scratch. The sauce is the ONE! My favorite go-tos to order is the pork belly platter served with rice and copious amounts of romaine lettuce. So fresh and satisfying. The tofu soup option is also a must and they allow you to go extra spicy. Korean food isn't typically spicy but the extra spice level is what I need when I'm looking for more than just a hint and a kick. Service - amazing! Super attentive and observative. They pay attention. For example, low on samjang. You don't need to ask, they bring it right to you. Low on bonchon, they'll bring more. Also, if you notice for to go orders, they pack you bonchon. This is rare. No one does this. You guys have a customer for life!

They are also one of the only Korean restaurants that I know that uses real prawns in their soondubu jjigae, a lot of other Korean restaurants will give you the weird small shrimp that aren't all that fresh/appetizing... I think this is one of the better Korean places that I have tried in the Berkeley/Oakland/Richmond general area.

Korean food can be very hit-or-miss for me, but the food here is actually pretty damn good. I gave them four stars, which is saying something because I'm pretty picky when it comes to Korean food. I've eaten at other Korean restaurants where certain chicken dishes didn't agree with me at all, and my stomach was reminding me about that meal for the next few days. I've never had that problem here. The food tastes fresh, the flavors are good, and I've enjoyed what I've ordered each time. If you're someone like me who doesn't automatically love every Korean restaurant you try, The Jumping Spoon is definitely worth giving a shot. It's one of the Korean spots I'd actually come back to.

The ramen is comforting and hits the spot when you want something warm and filling, while the poke bowls are fresh and customizable, which I liked. Portions are generous too. At this point, I'm just cataloguing what we're eating: Premium Galbitang - This was excellent and my favorite dish today. This was a Galbitang, but they added 2 shrimp, an abalone, and some other seafood. I haven't had beef + seafood combo outside of the soft tofu stew, but I might have to consider it more after trying this dish. Packed with flavor. Galbi Dolsot - A large portion. Nice and crispy rice. Great sear on the galbi. Highly recommend. I've talked about the banchan before - best banchan in East Bay, although the turnip kimchi is out of control (needs to be cut into smaller pieces). Seafood Pancake - Pretty good version here. Crispy and flavorful. Thick Soybean Paste Stew - A hearty tofu soup with some veggies. It came out first and I thought it was a pretty good starter. Fried Chicken - I think the chicken here is ok in terms of crispiness and flavor. Original was good. Garlic was really odd. It was basically original with some kind of puree on top (raw garlic + sugar). Not something I would get again. Beef Bulgogi - We had a better version of this the last time we came. Today's did not get enough heat. No sear on the onions or the beef.

Let me tell you, this was the best Banchan I have had in any Korean restaurant. The chive one was my favorite but they were all good. We ordered several dishes to try a little of everything. We ordered the seafood pancake, jap chae with beef, galbi jjim with cheese (you get to see them torch the cheese table side), bibimbop, tofu soup, and bossam. Everything was unbelievably tasty. This is definitely one of the best Korean meals I have ever had. The rice cakes were nice and chewy in the galbi jjim, the bossam was so delicious, the seafood pancake was nice and crispy. I could eat here all day. The service was quick, the staff was friendly, the restaurant was clean. I will definitely be back.

Coleslaw was just the way I like it, a little sweet and crisp. Beans were really good, they can be all over the place but these had the perfect finish of sweet and savory. The waitress came once to refill my water and other than that two more times to get the plates. Mind you we did not eat much so we were low maintenance table. I asked for the check and walked it to the counter to pay since I noticed recently the waiters tend to stand right in front of you while you fill out the receipt. She followed me to the front counter and waited next to me as I handed the check to lady at the counter. I thought she was just going to ask her something just to give her the benefit of the doubt. For 2 adults and a 5 year old the bill came out to $60.11. Since we were low maintenance and barely had plates for her to come pick up unlike other full tables I decided no tip today. I paid and was heading out after putting away my card and she approached the counter and then said "excuse me. No tip?" I was shook but replied nicely yes I didn't leave a tip. She said the tip is not included in the total. I replied "I know. I did not leave a tip." She asked "why you don't leave me tip?" I replied a little louder "a tip is optional not mandatory and I chose not to leave a tip" She then said ok and had a look on her face like I left without paying or something. My brother had said he has also ran into issues like this with them hovering whenever you are going to pay and even say things under their breath on the days we do not leave a tip. Mind you this is one day i chose not to leave a tip. I usually leave $5 if service deserves it or if I feel generous. It is not mandatory so having them treat me like I didn't fully pay is ridiculous. I will not be returning to empire buffet as again this has been an ongoing issue. I don't like them hovering over my shoulder as I pay or in this instance following me to the front counter and confronting me in front of their manager (who did nothing). If this has happened to you please leave a review so something can be done because it seems this behavior is allowed in this location.
