I was apprehensive with who might be able to do justice and not ruin them. I took a shot with GKH furniture repair and restoration. I'd seen the reviews, and I now can say the reviews weren't exaggerated. When I first called Greg last November he was honest about the time fragment it would take. I unfortunately called during the holidays, which was not good. I later called in March, amd he told me then, sort of leveling with me that this sort of work takes time, like 4-6 months. It wasn't a bad wait and I was patient. The saying goes, "all good things come to those who wait," and it's true if you want a master to handle your antiques. I've sanded, stained wood before, and it's no easy task. It's a time-consuming endeavor, and I also didn't trust myself restoring antique bookcases. In retrospect the price was reasonable for the result. I now have an admirable place to keep my Ulysses, and restored bookcases my ancestors would be proud of.

They did an oil base, because I have a Goldendoodle that likes to run around the house. It's been 2wks since they finished and I still can't get over how nice they look. I'm usually not this person, but if I could give a 0 star review I would…read more I'm fairly certain the owner is a subcontractor as he never showed up to supervise his crew who couldn't communicate with me. They did not do what they said they would do in his written contract, even when I brought up the undone things. Also what they did do they did horribly. Spots in my floor were actually made worse because they didnt wait for the filler to dry and then sanded it and the filler shrunk leaving a large gouges on my floor in multiple places. They put gouges in my sheet rock too. They didnt use the wood they promised and used oak instead of pine. They filled in a bannister hole at one point. I put x's on a hump of floor finish and they litterally sanded the xs off and refinished over the hump. They never showed up on time or let you know when they were coming. One day they were to be there at 9am and showed up at 2pm . They never sent proof of insurance so I doubt they have it. They never gave me an invoice or recipt. And the cherry on the cake is I hired hired them despite being the most expensive estimate because he told me he would do it they way I wanted it, and it was an outright lie. I talked to the owner every day and he would make promises that his crew never followed up with. If you hire this outfit you will be paying again to fix what they ruin! I honestly can't belive they have any real positve reviews and honestly they don't seem very legit how they never produced proof of insurance.

The hardwood flooring included the kitchen, dining room, and hallway, which are part of the open floor plan. They explained the process before proceeding: The first phase was replacing the water damaged wood planks in the kitchen followed by removal of the "shoes", which are the parts connected to the floor board. They then sanded the entire wood flooring then cleaned up the residual wood dust. They then applied our custom wood stain. They returned the following day to apply the first two coats of polyurethane. Due to this being Friday, no service on weekends, they returned Monday to apply the final coat of poly. They explained we could walk on the floors, hard bottom shoes only ( no high heels) and we could also return our appliances to the kitchen. ( a dolly was required). Overall, customer service was excellent, the "floor" guys were conscientious and deliberate, taking care in the quality of their work. It is recommended to re-do hardwood floors every 10 years. I will be calling them again in 10 years, or earlier if tragedy strikes again.

I had to have them come back to fix several areas that should have been done 1st time around. The crews were always running late and would text and say they would be late. Some of the crews were extremely loud carrying on personal conversations about issues with the company. Not great PR for the company. They can do better! I think they are just trying to run fast and get jobs done quick without taking time for the quality work that you are expecting with what you are paying. My floors do look wonderful though!

TOTTA HARDWOODS (just recently; we just moved into our renovated condo in the last 2 months) did an…read moreEXCELLENT job installing our engineered wood flooring!! I cannot recommend them enough! They were easy to work with, were very professional, responsive. The final result is exactly what you would want for a fine wood floor. Additionally, our flooring provided a real challenge to the contractor. As part of the demolition, they had to remove old wood flooring (that seems to have been put down for eternity - with some kind of glue/sealant/whatever). The contractor brought in his regular team (who had lifted numerous old wooden floors successfully). They slaved away for days/weeks (actually) on end trying to get the job complete. They could not properly remove the residue of the old flooring, and as a result, we had an uneven surface - at best. We decided to call in Totta. They came in with the right tools and within a few days, they had the job done - as it should have been! (You get the right skill matched with the right tool and the result is excellent.) Once again, we highly recommend Totta. Today, I just needed to look something up on their site, and was totally surprised at seeing some of their previous, poor reviews (we never checked into that when we first purchased the flooring; our conversations with the Totta brothers made us feel very comfortable to move ahead with them and so we did). If I had, I never would have considered going with them. Luckily, sometimes, ignorance truly is bliss. They have obviously changed something in their process and/or others were unlucky (it happens sometimes, even with the best at your service).

Mike, Ben, and their team caused numerous issues and concerns…read more Their team was unable to color match existing antique hardwoods (as promised), unable to repair previously hidden water damage, and completely neglected cracked/damaged boards in our kitchen. We were left babysitting this project at every level. In the end, they took twice as long as quoted, skipped polyurethane under appliances, damaged an existing french door, and tried to add costs to the invoice without a written contract change order. The discussions were rude and unprofessional. I would not recommend their team at all.
